(What I mean by proper death is, he should have at least put up a good fight against the titan, but he just died in one page..) I hope annie is in the next chapter *_* It's about time she regain consciousness and somehow break free from that underground prison.. |

So Eren graduated from being a damsel in distress to an omnipotent ruler of titans. Wat. Why did I think this chapter wouldn't have a deus ex machina fueling its development? At least Eren will start being useful again. |

Well, this a real massacre. Hannes died because the author needed a known character to die, so Connie better watch out. So Eren can control mindless titans like the Ape like titan can meaning he too is a coordinator which is a nice plot twist. Now, what I hope is that Eren can own that skill and stop anyone else inside the wall from getting eaten by titans, but I know people can still be killed by titan swifter which is ok. |

Along with his new power it will cause havoc inside the walls that's why Rainer said "your the worst human to have that power". I know it's the worst case scenario but with eren here ... It's highly possible. And before the mikasas attack me I'd like to say that I don't hate eren, in fact I like him more and more because I'd rather have a flawed protagonist over a perfect protagonist anytime. I hope next chapter that the people who might figured eren power out keep it a secret (maybe even from eren himself... Till he calm down at least) I don't want the author to turn it into a political struggle arc of who gets eren and waste too many chapters on it. |

But I liked the chapter. Unfortunatelly the next one is only on December. 1 - Well, it looked like it. Her face was getting closer and closer to eren, there is no other explanation. 2 - First they will spread the news to everyone in their village about the coordinate (or maybe to their superior, who knows) and then be assigned to get this power back (which is in eren, so they are bringing him as well), along with some reinforcements to get the job done quickly, and also because it has been proven that the coordinate in inside the walls. |

Lol guys, please read other posts before (possibly) repeating the subject matter ad nauseum. BdaaN said: It's pretty obvious that they don't give a shit about humanity as whole since their initial objective was to kill everyone within the walls. This isn't true. They clearly feel compassion towards their fellow humans and no small amount of guilt for what they've done. What's obvious is that they felt it was necessary. This would only make sense if they felt their actions constituted a purge rather than wanton mass murder. Like annie_leonheart said, read the theories. My first one is on page 8, annie's is on page 10. They coincide in important ways. I have a much more comprehensive version of the theory on page 14, which is then filled out on page 15 with an idea of Ymir's role and RBAs potential redemption. Old_Raven said: Ok can someone --anyone-- PLEASE explain to me when Ymir showed she had the ability to controls Titans as well?! A number of posts near the beginning of the thread suggest that all skinned, pointy-eared titans have exhibited the "coordinate" (or as I call it, the "power of command"). The Ape explicitly showed it during the scene in Ch. 35, when he commanded the titans surrounding Mike Zacharius, first to stop eating him, and then to resume. The Ape is also somehow able to turn people into titans, as we saw with Connie's mother. Some of them remain semi-sentient, like Connie's mother, and others go full man-eater, like the ones that Sasha fought. Ymir is thought to have shown it subconsciously during her 60 year trance-like state. This is suggested by the Ilse's Notebook chapter, where a titan calls Ilse "Ymir-sama." There are other theories for why Ymir commands such respect; one such theory is Vanisher's on page 15. Bertxannie said: 2 - First they will spread the news to everyone in their village about the coordinate (or maybe to their superior, who knows) and then be assigned to get this power back (which is in eren, so they are bringing him as well), along with some reinforcements to get the job done quickly, and also because it has been proven that the coordinate in inside the walls. They will definitely report their failure, and Hometown will definitely have to get more serious. However, I think Hometown may decide not to approach the situation as a manhunt (which is time consuming), but just send their finest titan pilots to wipe out humanity once and for all. annie_leonheart said: Point is he still needs someone to calm/take care of him. stickmansam said: And that person will Mikasa yay! If anything, Mikasa will be more attached to him than ever after the heroic piggy-back ride he gave her. Although it may also cause her to express herself more openly to him, which in turn could calm him down. That person will likely be everyone's favorite bad-ass Jewish manlet: Levi. Xinception said: But also, dude, you've gotta admit that Eren's pretty much grown up a lot. From "I'll kill you all, muhahahaha" to ... "Shit, I gotta think of CQC moves I secretly learnt from Solid Snake to beat this armoured mother fucker" Maybe he's not over the killing thing, but he's grown. He has for sure. It's not just that he's more composed when fighting. In this chapter he chose to protect Mikasa rather than just rage at the titan that killed his mom. The theory mentioned by annie_leonheart and myself is in the spoiler tags below. It's fairly comprehensive. Read it! They are long, but reading is good for you. :-P dxia said: annie_leonhart said: is it because they don't want the elites to interrupt the ape Titan I just had a crazy speculation. Note: This theory does not explain how the titans were created in the first place. You can fill in the rest with whatever may be consistent (Freak experiment, weapons of war gone wrong, etc.). But the important part is that a group consisting of the Ape and a small number of scientists/shifters/whatever, was one of the principal groups behind the creation, with the Ape being their leader. For whatever reason (disillusionment with the world, desire for power and dominion, etc.), the Ape (or the human inside him) wanted a titan army. This theory also leaves the possibility of other civilizations open. I've always thought there were significant parallels between Shingeki and FMA. What if the Ape Titan is basically Father? And all the Kings, Nobles, and the higher-ups in the Wall Cult are actually with him? The Ape Titan needed more humans to turn into mindless titan soldiers, so 100 years ago, he and a group of scientists/shifters/whatever commanded a group of colossals to create the walls, in order to incubate a population of humans. The founding group (who are equivalent to the Homunculi or military higher-ups in FMA) was guaranteed safety, and with their power coerced their way into the highest positions of government. That makes the "King" like King Bradley! It explains the system behind the MP, and why the government often seems to not give a shit. The walls were never a problem for the Ape, because he can just climb them. So the the entire civilization behind the walls was for the sole purpose of being harvested by the Ape when the time comes! Grisha was part of or privy to the organization that's in on this plan. But he decided he wanted no part of it (maybe because he fell for Carla?), and so was exiled from the inner circles in Sina (this also explains why he had the technology to cure an epidemic). Much of his life has been dedicated to perfecting a serum/strategy to save humanity (or maybe he stole the serum). He bestowed part of this on Eren, and left the other part in the basement. Then he mysteriously disappears at the beginning of the story to finalize his counter-strategy. So in other words, Grisha is Hoenheim. Hometown is a group of scientists/shifters who rebelled against the Ape and formed their own society outside the walls instead, creating a group of Warrior shifters to protect themselves (this is why they know about the other faction that sided with the Ape, and the powers they possess). Recently, they discovered that the Ape is going to make his move soon to crush them. Rather than let humanity be turned into titans, and out of a need for self-preservation, hometown sends RBA to purge the remaining human population. The rest of the theory has already been said: I've got another theory. The Ape titan can make and control titans. The Ape Titan is an enemy of the hometown, their greatest threat. He's hometown enemy #1. Having the same power makes Eren hometown enemy #2. The fact that he's with humanity and hates titans makes him even more dangerous. Hometown sent RBA to wipe out humanity so that the Ape wouldn't have ammunition to make more mindless titan soldiers. Each human is a potential convert and soldier for the Ape, so they all have to go. (Ymir is aware that humanity is sandwiched between these two extremely powerful forces, so she thinks that humans have no future until she sees Eren display the power of command.) If anyone here has played Warcraft III, this is like when Arthas purges a city full of seemingly innocent civilians because he's afraid they will become undead. Everyone thinks he's gone nuts, but he's just doing what he thinks he has to. But once they saw skinned Eren titan, for some reason they knew that he had the same power, and they think they can use him or extract it from him to protect themselves from the Ape. That's why they'll "ignore the walls if Eren just comes with them." EDIT: Now that Eren has escaped them, R and B, along with Y, will be going home empty-handed. And when the hometown hears their grim news, they're gonna get more serious. We may see even stronger warrior titans than the Armored from here on out. Because if this theory is correct, then because "Mission Capture Eren" has failed, hometown's objective goes right back to annihilating humanity. And they know that Eren has the power of command, so if they have the manpower, they're going to send a group powerful enough to make up the difference. In other words, maybe we can expect to see a Warrior invasion that makes Shiganshina and Trost look like tame kittens. Because Eren can now manipulate dumb titans, they won't rely on dumb titans to finish the job. And they won't just send R and B either. They're gonna bring their A-game, their best pilots, and just try to steamroll. Maybe we'll see "hometown's strongest shifter." Lol, and Levi will have to fight him. That'd be epic. What'd be even better is if at the same time, the Ape comes to make more converts. Then you have two titan commanders and a group of Warriors duking it out for supremacy. I like this idea the more I elaborate on it. This fits perfectly with my other theory (inside the spoiler tag) and it partially redeems RBA! Woah... So like Annie/Xin said, after Eren vs. Ape (who's still inside the walls) we're gonna get two more big arcs. (1) The Revelation Arc: Basement revealed, Conspiracy among the higher-ups revealed, history of the titans partially revealed, hometown revealed, R and B report their failure (2) The Apocalypse Arc: Hometown sends its finest to exterminate humanity once and for all. The Ape tries to get there first, with the help of the King and other higher ups. What stands between them is the military and Eren's newfound power. I'm liking it more and more... Vanisher said: How would eren's power to control titans would fit in this theory? Reiner said they need to "take it back", so it was from their village to begin with. It could fit easily though. Instead of "discovering ape titans plan" they simply lost that power somehow. They used to use that power to prevent the titans to attack their hometown and live peacefully. After losing it they had no choice but to exterminate the humans. But then they met eren and that's why reiner said that there's no need to exterminate humans anymore. Somehow I don't really feel this is exactly the case, but it's a nice theory. @DarkCyclone: Lol yeah I did say it was just speculation @Vanisher; There actually might be an even better way to explain that. The serum for making warrior titans and the serum for making commander titans are different. The Ape/Ape faction was responsible for making (an imperfect) second type of serum, and denied access to the rebels. It's either that, or the Ape faction seized control of the existing (and extremely small/imperfect) stock of commander serum (by force?) once they realized hometown was breaking off. Or there was only a tiny bit left at the time, and it was taken by the hometown faction. When the hometown scientists/shifters left the Ape, they either managed to snatch a tiny amount of "commander serum" from the Ape, or they had some of sort of data on it from which to make an imperfect prototype. They wanted to perfect it and use it to protect themselves, because their warrior abilities aren't always enough to prevent casualties. This imperfect serum/prototype was stolen by none other than Ymir, who administered it improperly and became insane. Wandering outside for 60 years, she briefly and subconsciously displays a weak power of command on several occasions, causing some titans to refer to her as "Ymir-sama." So the founders of hometown did once have access to commander serum, but they first lost control of it, and then the little they managed to salvage was stolen. Hence the need to take it back. Grisha eventually develops the most perfect form of the serum there is...etc., etc. Just more crazy ideas, really. One thing, however, is definitely fishy, even just given the story we have: Grisha somehow has this great serum that even a whole village full of shifters is unable to make or obtain. Grisha was definitely part of some suspicious organization that hasn't been revealed yet. And since this serum was presumably the Ape's (or Ape faction's) to begin with, well... The other things we know are: - Hometown is afraid of the commander ability (which is associated with the coordinate). If they were with the Ape, there would no reason to fear. Thus, Ape and Hometown are definitely separate factions, and most likely opposing ones. How far back does this rift go? Ymir's confession about stealing their (Hometown's) power suggests at least 60 years, and at least 70-80 if we count her age at the time. Furthermore, the Ape is not an easy opponent for Hometown. - Grisha felt a sense of extreme urgency after the Shiganshina invasion. His mysterious disappearance suggests he somehow knows that shit is about to go down. - The Ape has not paid a visit inside the walls for a long time. He only "thinks" that he speaks the same language. - The Ape appears immediately after Annie's capture. VERY SOON after that, R and B tell Eren that he needs to come with them, RIGHT NOW. This is no coincidence; there is a sense of urgency they feel because of the Ape's sudden appearance (a sense that will be compounded by the loss of Eren). They believe the Ape is about to do something that will affect Hometown for the worse. - The power (serum) that Ymir stole is the power of command, albeit a shitty version. Hence, "Ymir-sama", as well as the skin and pointy ears. These points are part of the basis I'm going on for this theory. Vanisher said: While the pointy ears make sense, I wouldn't say that we know for sure that Ymir stole that power. First of all, if she stole it 60 years ago, why did Hometown decide to attack 60 years latter? you could say they took their time thinking what to do, but that's just a bit too much of a coincidence. Second, if Ymir had some kind of similar power she would've used it at Utgard Castle, only possible explanation is that you can run out of this power. Third, the titan that said "Ymir-sama" confused Ilse for Ymir because they were alike. The titan mistook ilse for Ymir's HUMAN form, so there's no way that the reason for that is that she was commanding titans as a titan herself. A explanation to this would be that she first commanded titans as a human for a while and then became insane, but this would mean that she stole the power at a ridiculous young age. I think that the "Ymir-sama" came from a titan that knew her when they both were humans, similar to Connie's mom recognizing him. Ymir said she and Historia were alike and that she sacrificed herself for a great amount of people, so it's possible that she used to be someone important somewhere outside the walls, hence the "-sama" These are some good points. I can explain away the second and third points, but the first and fourth will take some more thought when I have free time. Or maybe some other interested soul will take over the sleuthing. We observed Eren use the power in his human form. What's more, Eren didn't know he had the power; he was shocked that he did. In other words, he used it subconsciously. It's pretty clear that the Ape can use it consciously, commanding dumb titans to stop or eat Mike through speech. It's very possible that Ymir, having self-administered an imperfect serum, was only able to exhibit the power sporadically and subconsciously. She actually doesn't know how or is unable to use it consciously, hence her inability to do so at Utgard (and later outside the walls). Even experienced shifters have to revert to human form once in a while, because titan form is apparently exhausting. It's likely that Ymir, during her self-described trance like state, fluctuated between human and titan form a number of times, each time subconsciously using the power of command to save her human form from being eaten; hence her being recognized as an authority figure by that one titan. True or not, I don't think Ymir could possibly have stayed in titan form for 60 years straight. Edit: There could actually be any number of explanations for the first point, as to what Hometown was doing in the meantime. They could have been trying to re-engineer the commander serum, or attacking the Ape, who managed to beat them or fight them to a stalemate. Either way, according to the theory I posted before, they didn't join the Ape because they at least felt some compassion for their fellow man. At some point close to the beginning of the story, Hometown learns that the Ape is going to bring his incubation plan to fruition soon, and decide they have to attack as a last resort. This would partly explain why RBA do show obvious compassion and guilt for what they've done. Because they do show compassion, it would be cool if R and B at least tried to convince Hometown to ally with humanity against the Ape. At the very least, B has Annie as incentive. About the 4th point: I don't have a solid explanation for this one. But let's say hypothetically that Ymir was an authority figure outside the walls even as a human (she must have been pretty young at the time too...), and that one titan recognized her because they knew each other as humans (like the case of Connie's mom, which is a good observation). Then whatever group of people Ymir was important to got hit by the Ape at some point. It's possible that this group of people knew of the existence of shifters or serums, or both. Ymir's "sacrifice" was to embark on a quest to find and steal some serum to protect her people. However, her efforts went to waste after the Ape attacked and she went into her trance. After 60 years of wandering (which she seems to have thought of as painful) and returning stably to human form, she became disillusioned with the idea of helping or serving other people (because look at what it got her), and swears to live only for herself (that is, until Historia happened). After seeing her people harvested by the Ape, she believes there is no future for humanity, and that "it will soon be hell inside the walls" (i.e. the conspiracy will unfold). |

Did a fanboy scream when I realised it had updated. RIP Hannes AND finally we can a future for the humans. I think RBA never knew Eren had the ability to control other titans. They were, however, looking for Titan shifters for the possibility that they may have that ability? That's why they are so desperate? IDK just what was going though my head when I was reading the manga. |

I still don't get one thing. If eren, who was swalled by a titan, could transform into a titan inside its body, since he was a titan shifter, why couldn't berik, who was swalled by ymir, do the same? Why did she instead of "blowing up" like that other titan, she got his titan shifter powers? Could it be because he was already dead when he reached her stomach? |

Then they found out about eren's titan shifter power, and assumed he was the best bet to have the coordinator. |

Most likely because Ymir probably CHEWED her food where as the Titan only SWALLOWED Eren whole. Riener was full of crap when he said Shifters cant change when theyre using the power for regeneration but Im willing to bet that the regeneration CANNOT revive the dead. |

When I read the chapter, I was like "What the hell, Hannes died already!" Definitely didn't expect that and here I thought it was time for him to shine only for him to end being Titan food. Eren's power aside from Metamorphosis has finally been revealed, "controlling titans". I still don't totally get what Reiner and Bertholt are up to, but I hope they live |

it looked to me like eren wasn't commanding the titans, but instead, creating one to smack the creepy titan and the mindless titans ran over to snack on eren's creation. does eren have creation powers? is this where titans come from? |

No, on page 27 (http://readms.com/r/attack_on_titan/50/2097/27) you can see the same titan that attacked Momeater behind Eren and Mikasa. |

Why did the smiling titan hesitate for a moment? He was just sitting there watching Eren rage as Eren kept kept punching his hand. I thought normal titans were mindless brain dead beasts who would eat humans on sight. I wouldn't be surprised if the smiling titan is actually a special titan. |

Eren landed only one punch and I think it was affected by Eren's power the same way the rest of the titan horde was so it was rooted in place until torn to pieces. |

Truth to be told, I have problems connecting Eren's ability with the wall-titans. Suggested by the miner's story in episode 25, the rock beneath the walls has specific characteristics of the hardening ability. Annie showed a version of consuming/merging with Eren's titan before she went all crystal. Then, two other things - the Walls have been breached at the gates, not anywhere else. Second, the only one peeling off a piece of it, was Annie and at a height near the top. Third, the Wall Worshipers were vehemently against the military trying to fortify the Walls on the top - by placing rails and cannons, and digging underneath the walls - the abandoned passages across Wall Sina. It could be the case that the hardening is lesser the higher the walls go. Then we have titans inside. They don't reach the top, but we don't know how deep their feet go. The miner dug around the 4 m, where this strange (raw) rock is mentioned, but with the same "ability" as the shaped out wall. The only thing shown to be enough for these human-like titans to be kept inside, is the walls themselves. Literally, Hanji and SL covered the face with blankets to stop the sunlight. Eren doesn't have a hardening ability (yet). The effect of his commanding ability on the human-titans is unclear. They recognize "the call" of it, but they didn't follow. As of now, it is shown to affect the non-shifter classes. So, either Eren should be able to break the Walls, or he should be able to control human-titans as well in order either to pose danger to the Walls or make use of the titans inside them. Holy crap, this chapter was amazing! It's really sad that Hannes died, especially to the titan that he was afraid to kill and ended up devouring Eren's mother. Those Mikasa X Eren moments were so beautiful. I can't wait to see those animated. Eren's able to control titans?! Holy crap, that's crazy and very ironic. For someone to hate titans so much has the ability to control those beings that he hates so much. Can't wait for more!! 5/5 |

Deconstruction ≠ Darker & Edgier Trope ≠ Cliché (Face it, nothing is completely original. Can't make something from nothing so to say.). Fanservice ≠ Ecchi (Though ecchi can please the fans!) Popular ≠ Sucks... maybe Seinen = K-ON! Shounen, Shoujo, Seinen and Josei are demographics. Anime/Manga = Japanese Cartoons! Deal with it. Support Movember. Raise awareness of men's health issues. btw, I thought these awesome pieces of SnK (anime) music would be great to accompany the manga while you read: Pages 6 - 18 http://youtu.be/J0_aYOXzhqc?t=10m56s Pages 19 - 44 http://youtu.be/J0_aYOXzhqc?t=50s (there's a slow part at 2:00 that's PERFECT for pg23 onwards! And when it picks up at 2:30, you should be at pg32 for the best effect! Then once final swell starts at 3:40 you should be at pg42!) Pages 45 - end http://youtu.be/J0_aYOXzhqc?t=18m30s SO ... AWESOME. *_* I love SnK anime's music. Just so perfect. :D |

^^^ Yeah, this titan really looks human, but actually, is a rip off of the Vietnamese manager of the Chinese restaurant near my place :) We know each other personally, but ... I did stare a bit, I admit :)) If you look around at images of Asian males, you'd see the features can be met across the southeastern region, regardless the country. He looks like taken from a political poster, though :P |

My God, this power is so broken!.. I mean, unless it will have some heavy limitations, this power just destroys the entire setting. I mean, they can easily reach the basement now, because no titan can touch them now, Eren can just send them all away! The main threat of this manga are now made completely meaningless!.. |
