Because it targeted at older male demographic.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

What does having female main characters have to do with it being a seinen or not? Technically, K-On! is also a seinen and it practically has no male characters in it.

Coppelion is a seinen because it was originally published in a seinen magazine called Young Magazine which is targeted at adult males.

srsly, I suggest you to go search the basics before making a question like this. It's always better.

Not sure if there is another way to define it other than anime and manga for adult males.

"Monster" and "Vagabond" (manga) would be example, as their darker themes are more suitable for adults rather than kids.

However, lots of moe anime are Seinen (for grown men), which is somewhat disturbing to me and further cements the negative public view of otakus in general.

Well I guessed the only reason they give it seinen is because its target audience is towards adult.

AHHHH WHO CARES! As long as it's a good one, it doesn't matter which kind of audience it was targeting to, because in the end of the day, it's an Anime ;)

Seinen manga (青年漫画?) is a subset of manga that is generally targeted at a 18–30 year old male audience, but the audience can be older with some manga aimed at businessmen well into their 40s.[citation needed] In Japanese, the word Seinen means "young man" or "young men" and is not suggestive of sexual matters. (The female equivalent to seinen manga is josei manga.)

It has a wide variety of art styles and more variation in subject matter, ranging from the avant-garde to the mundane and to the pornographic. Because of the emphasis on storyline and character development instead of action, some seinen series are often confused with shōjo, or girls' manga.[citation needed] This is especially true of seinen comedy series such as Chobits, and Chi's Sweet Home, or seinen drama such as Twin Spica. Other examples of seinen manga include: NEEDLESS, Akira, Monster, Gantz, 20th Century Boys, Berserk, Blade of the Immortal, Battle Royale, Blame!, Vagabond, Ghost in the Shell, Hellsing, Black Lagoon, Ikigami, Eden: It's an Endless World!, Elfen Lied, Another, Battle Angel Alita, Zetman, Drifters and Maison Ikkoku.

A common way to tell if a manga is seinen is by looking at whether or not furigana is used over the original kanji text: if there are furigana on all kanji, the title is generally aimed at a younger audience. The title of the magazine it was published in is also an important indicator. Usually Japanese manga magazines with the word "young" in the title (Weekly Young Jump for instance) are seinen. Other popular seinen manga magazines include Ultra Jump, Afternoon, and Big Comic.

MAL is retarded with using manga demographics as genre and genre of anime.

You really think your average fujoshi would give this the light of day? Anyways, this seems like a troll topic to begin with so I'll quickly jettison myself after my 2 cents.
I wish Cowboy Bebop never existed.

Seinen is a demographic - and the next question would be "what is a demographic?"

A demographic is what marketers and publishers use to decide how and where to sell or advertise your product. For example, if you are selling high-end BMWs, your targeted demographic is well-off neighborhoods typically with white males in their 20s and 30s. Essentially a demographic is a way of saying who the seller believes the buyer will likely be.

In manga there are 4 main demographics: Shounen, Seinen, Shoujo, and Josei.

Seinen is the demographic for manga that is believed to likely make the most sales with 18-30 year old males. All seinen means is "when we go to sell this, lets try making sure 18-30 year old males see this for sure!"

It does not mean the content is a specific type of thing, it does not mean the theme is one way or another, it does not mean it's "Mature" or "adult" - it simply means the publisher believes selling it in THIS magazine instead of THAT magazine will make it sell more copies.

It means absolutely nothing else.

Why?
Why not.

Also because females don't find this shit entertaining, while young boys (shounen) will get the snot bored out of them.

I'm sure many females find this kind of stuff interesting. I'm one of them. Heck, mostly what I'm into is shounen and seinen while I dislike most shoujo and josei.

Target audience and all that jazz. Of course there are exceptions to everything.

Also a quick brief run down:

seinen - older men (~17-20)
shonen - younger men (~14-16)

Maybe its lost in translation, but 14-18 are boys, and 20+ are pretty much young men (which is literally the translation of Seinen). Its not like you suddenly fossilize when you hit 21.

Make that Seinen 18-30.

Also about the genre vs demographic thing.
It can easily be interpreted as a genre defined by it targeting a specific demographic.
Its more a subset of anime/manga than a demographic or genre, if you want to get really nitpicky.
