Judai and the others didn't go to the past; they went to a different dimension, a dimension where Duel Monster spirits are real hence why Winged Kuriboh became solid in this episode, and why there were Gravekeeper's monsters walking around. How did Daitokuji not feel Pharaoh in his backpack? And why was Pharaoh even around if all it was gonna do was make cat noises? I also have to wonder why the school has an alchemy class; what purpose does that serve in a school about dueling? :/ |

Technically the characters were always able to set monsters in face-down defense position if they wanted to. In fact in episode 9 it was pointed out that Hayato could've set Des Koala in face-down defense mode in order to get its Flip Effect, but he forgot. |
