Pretty much what the title says. It needs to be a katana. Someone before recommended Inuyasha as a male with a katana. That is not a katana. That is an enormous demon sword. Although I loved the series, it's not what I'm looking for. So yeah. Guy with a katana. Any genre. Prefer romance but not needed. Thanks for the help.
You dun goofed.

Does Gintama count?

Samurai Champloo is probably the best fit. One of the (3) main characters uses a Katana and it's got a lot of action going on.

House of the Five Leaves also features a Ronin Samurai, but there is not a lot of action.

Also, I'd say Ga-rei Zero is worth watching for its Katana action sequences. But, the wielders are not guys.

Edit: It should be noted that the OP has already seen Rurouni Kenshin and Seiken no Blacksmith (which, indeed, was terrible).

I hate this show. It has the worst katana wank off all time. It portrays the katana as some bullshit godlike weapon and all the other western swords are portrayed as crude clunks of metal.
Anyway, rage aside I would recommend Rurouni Kenshin and Sword of the Stranger

First off Seiken no Blacksmith was awesome in my opinion and I've seen Rurouni Kenshin but dropped it after the Kyoto arc. I'll look at the other one though.

There was one good show where the male protagonist used katana(if I remember correctly), but the name was so freaking long and I don't remember it >_> I'll try to search for the name -->

Oh yes, it's called Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto

MC doesn't use a katana. He is a martial artist.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

If you haven't seen the ova Trust and Betrayal (Tsuiokuhen) you are truly missing out. Personally, I think it's the best the franchise has to offer. You may want to pick up the manga where you left off as well, the last arc was pretty solid.

I would go with Bleach, he starts with a really big katana, which later turns into a big sword shaped like a carving knife, then to a black bladed katana, not to mention all protagonists except 3 people use Katanas in this amazing anime/manga
Ichigo Kurosaki + all other Shinigami use Zampakutos, Katanas that have a name and a a personality ( though you only see their real form in their head) + a special power release that is different for every Shinigami in Soul Society

You're arrogant. A katana forged with the right materials and technique while wielded by a master can cut most anything. Although with most katana masters they never need cross blades (i.e they're too fast to be parried) if they deigned it one could most easily cut larger blades whose temper is necessarily inferior to allow it to be light enough to be lugged around
