I've been getting into classic movies lately and I wanted to know what the opinion on these movies are. Normally im into R-rated stuff like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now.

I've tried to watch Casablanca and Citizen Kane but they are so often referenced in other things that i couldn't take them seriously. Haven't seen Lawrence of Arabia in years but i remember it being a good enough movie.

Citizen Kane is a masterpiece, with some of the best cinematography I've ever seen. Casablanca is a good classic, which happens to be incredibly inflated for some reason. And Lawrence of Arabia is one of my eternal plan to watch films.

Casablanca and Citizen Kane are dope, but they're not very accessible.
Haven't seen Lawrence, but I have The Wind and the Lion, which is also desert tale (starring Sean Connery), it was pretty good.

M (1931 movie) is also classic.
Notorious (Hitchcock).
A streetcar named desire (Brando).
The Maltese falcon (Bogart and Lorre)

Haven't yet seen Citizen Kane or Lawrence of Arabia (every time I think I have, I remember that it was Ben Hur), but Casablanca was great. I saw it in my Writing About Film class in high school and, like with every movie we watched, I was one of about five people that gave a shit/actually liked it.

I keep telling myself I need to watch more pre-'63 movies, but I never get around to it.
I'm dead. Don't come looking for me.

Seen all, didn't like any of them all that much.

I couldn't stand To Kill a Mocking Bird.

As someone who had never seen a movie made before the 70s prior, I thoroughly enjoyed Citizen Kane too.

Recently rewatched Casablanca. It's decent, despite the fact certain scenes have been worn thin by pop culture. Still, far from being my favorite Bogart movie (and I do love me some Bogart).

It's been a while since I saw Citizen Kane, but I remember liking it greatly. Just not as much as nearly all professional film critics in existence today. I should probably go on a Welles (re)watch binge.

I haven't seen Lawrence of Arabia since I was a kid, but back then it seemed like a fun adventure film. To paraphrase a previous poster, eternally on the rewatch list.

In short, watch 'em. Watch 'em all.

Casablanca I love to bits

While I feel Citizen Kane is extremely overrated, it may have been one of the first "epic rise to the top" movies but other than that it's pretty MEH.

Lawrence of Arabia I've yet to watch.

I've seen Casablanca, and both my friends and I were a bit disappointed with it after watching it. We all expected more from something so praised. It was okay but not great.

I saw Casablanca. It was good but I wasn't amazed. There are other film noir films that wow me.

I will never understand why citizen kane was a good movie- the same goes for raging bull, fight scenes that last 2-3 seconds the rest of the movie is about him fighting with his wife - Yes I understand that it wanted to show him rise to the top and then fall down in a similar fashion but could they not have skipped some of the more mundane parts.

Maybe there's something about movies that are about rising and falling that just pisses me off - I thought dark knight rises was sub-par compared to the dark knight.
