Not sure if the question is strange or what not.

Anyways,

As many know, some (or a lot of) people tend to hide their power level in public when it comes to real life discussion about anime/manga but how about when it comes to reading manga in the open? Are you able to or willing to read a manga in a public place where anyone/everyone can see you? Or do you simply read at home or somewhere where your alone?

I'm sure some people will say that it's no different than reading a normal book but I'd have to say it's fairly different. People will judge a book by its cover, literally, and manga covers can be extremely strange at times depending on the series.

Now for those who don't have actual manga books, do you read manga online in public places? Libraries? School? Etc.

I myself don't mind reading in some public places like a library but rarely do I ever read my manga out of my home.

If they didn't judge me by what I was reading, they'd judge me for something else. I've given up caring about people that judge me based on my reading preferences. I will read manga anywhere.

I used to read it all the time at school. I'd carry one regular book and one manga with me everywhere. Most people didn't care, some people were curious and asked about it, a couple of people actually got interested in manga, and I also made a few friends from it.

Now I'll often take manga with me if I know I'm going to be somewhere boring, but I usually end up playing my DS instead.

No. I prefer reading it when I can be alone and there's silence but I would check out manga openly in public.

I usually play games and stuff out in public. Not out of embarrassment for reading manga in public, but due to noise concerns. I try to play games I can save anywhere/auto save/don't need saving, like Pokemon, or Wario Ware

Nope since I read it on my comp now, I used to buy manga volumes because I didnt read as often, and my reading speed was fairly slow so it would entertain me for a while. Now my speed is like 3x faster so I can finish a volume super fast so I dont buy it :/

I'll read it if I'm in the manga section of the bookstore I frequent or at the library. But otherwise, no, not in public. I hide my power level rather well.

I've always read my manga wherever I happened to be, whether it's at home or in a public place. My fiance says I give off an evil "I'll kill you if you get near me" aura that keeps people away from me anyway, so I've never worried about someone saying anything about what I was reading.

It's not like I'm doing anything wrong or embarassing, why would I be ashamed of reading good manga outside my house if I have nothing else to do?
When I'm traveling and I'm bored I pick a book or a manga and read it, if I just went to the bookstore and bought something I read it while I'm waiting for the bus or my friends.

>Reading Kodomo no jikan in public.

I'm a sane person, so I don't do stuff like that.
But for other manga, they don't tend to be 100% SFW(Welcome to the NHK, gantz, yuru yuri etc..), so I don't read them in public either. Unless I'm 100% sure they are SFW(Liar game).

But I don't go out in public anyway(outside of going to the store), so its a pretty pointless question to me.

Nobody care if you read manga... (of course if hentai change the cover and makes sure nobody looks in it though)
I mostly read in train/train station. Funny, sometimes someone will comment if they read it. A guy really needed to express his admiration for Dr. Tenma while I was reading Monster :)

I also need to see what other in the a wagon are reading (book or manga). It's a bad habits, I know.

At works I may put it on my desk, nobody cares.

I read it in public many times, even titles that some might not consider suitable for public display like Lychee Light Club. I don't really see why would that be a problem. Once or twice i even started laughing outloud while reading Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei in a bus.

Yes, I read manga in public. I don't care about what people can think. Plus, in France, reading manga is rather fashionable. Of course, it doesn't look so cool to everyone...

I do in college. I sit in the library where people can SEE it, but not make it out.

In high school I did, but I avoided reading nudity/seinen.

In high school I radiated aura like Kumogawa. Kept people from coming near me too.

It has faded though :).

I don't care what people think of what I read. I can read manga anytime I feel like it, at home or in public. The problem is that I don't own much manga because of the speed I read it at (thus it would be a waste of money), so I either read online or rent library books. And since the manga I want is usually out :/ and I can't read in school...yeah, so overall, I will read manga anywhere if I have it XD

I watch anime in public because no one can hate anime ...but reading manga in public is to far. Especially if the manga contains "some" ecchi and you have to flip the pages really fast (or if your on the computer at school super click) or of your reading a shoujo manga and a really girly part comes up (for example I love paradise kiss) you have to keep looking over your shoulder so you keep your street cred. It's to much work tbh.

I'm not bothered about what people think really, I'm a bit of a self-proclaimed weirdo at school and I sometimes get wierd looks, but I couldn't care less, it's more fun that way. I don't tend to read so much in public any more, but only because my manga always gets bashed about in my bag, and I dn't like it getting damaged.

Yes, but I have to use a lot discretion when reading some. For example, Berserk loves to have boobies just show up out of nowhere. I make sure to have the screen angled to where only I can see the screen when I read Berserk.

I still remember wen I was reading Tsukihime on my only PC, that just happens to be located in the living room and boom! Arcueid has her tits out ready to the deed in on big ass panel. Ever since I make sure to ask around to see if a manga has nudity or not, so I know if I can read it in public or not.
