What would you prefer in backing-up your animes?

Since I'm in a dilemma choosing between these two for saving up my animes, I decided to make a poll and hear out opinions from the anime community.

If you were me, what would you choose? And why? Ofcourse, storage space is a major factor that applies.

And

FLAC or AAC? (Lossless vs Lossy)

720p is sufficient unless your TV is over 40 inches.

720p is more than sufficient. It looks about the same as 1080p yet it takes up less than half the space. Really, unless you're someone who HAS to watch anime 2 inches from your screen just go with 720p.

720p, 1080p files are just way too big for me.

also not that much of a difference for me anyway quality wise.

It really depends on the size.

I'll go with 1080p if I love the anime and it's < 15gb for a 1-cour show, < 25gb for 2-cour . Everything else is 720p.

720p. Already looks great enough as is.
1080p is kind of overkill and a lot bigger(file size). Unless yeah you're planning to watch like on a big TV. lol

720p is the wayyyy to goooo

480p for time killer. 720p for favourite show. I don't even own any screen with 1080p

I sometime have funky grammar, sorry about that. If you can correct some of my post, you would be an angel.

My screen isn't big enough for me to see a difference between 720p and 1080p, and 1080p lags my player.

For me, mostly because a 1080p movie isn't as much of a space hog as a 1080p series. For movies, I tend to watch them directly on my TV too; whereas for a series I'll just watch it at my PC most times.

Ah okay, that makes sense, assuming you have a pretty big TV. I watch most movies on my TV as well, feels weird to watch them on a laptop for whatever reason, haha.

Hmm...that makes sense... I don't really watch anime on a tv but I just have this feeling that I might as well save them in 1080p....just because? lol

So it's quantity over quality.

Well, how about audio? FLAC or AAC? (Lossless vs Lossy)

I tend to try to get movies in 1080 because they generally have better animation.

Yeah, I'm planning on doing it too :D

Same thing with the series I really like~

And I limited myself with getting only 720p for shows older than 2009.

1080p unless it's an up-scale. Space is cheap. In that topic about anime storage it seemed most people deleted their files and since I don't have problem buying HDs I don't see how anybody has trouble storing 1080p anything.

For your second question:
FLAC>AAC. Though truthfully most of the time it doesn't matter because of your sound equipment, or that mastering and production of your music was already crap to begin with.

But...resolution doesn't affect animation. I think you're confused at what the term "animation" means.

Most of my backups are in 480p. Unless you have 10+Tb hdd (which isn't my case), you can't store 500+ anime with 720p res, especially since most fansubs don't know how to encode shit (gg, commie from the top of my head).

The animation is usually better in movies, so it's more worthwhile to view them in their highest resolution.

720p for TV and most OVA, there is no point going higher for them your just wasting space.

1080p for Movies, Some OVA

and Always AAC any encoder who uses FLAC is quite frankly a moron, unless your a super audiophile 95% of the human population can't identify the Loss. Again your just wasting space on theoretical improvements you can't even hear.

720p AAC if possible in 10bits. Takes like three times less space compared to 1080p FLAC BD releases ... No match there. And my screen resolution is capped at 1280*800... No point in taking 1080p releases for me. And I don't wanna buy loads of external HDD.

FLAC is only worthwhile for music, and that's only if you have incredibly good equipment and PC hardware, also exceptional hearing. For other media though? Never.

People do have problems with storing 1080P because
A) HDD's cost money(i'm not exactly rich)
B) They don't delete anything that is above a set rating(6, 7, 8 etc..)
C) watch it on a computer screen(and not a big one either), so the difference between 720p and 1080p is close to none.

For the same reason. Plus 1080p for some OVAs. I would like to go higher, but I don't have enough space. Maybe for my favorites in the future.

I always try to keep it the highest quality possible. 720p looks great on my 24" screen, but 1080p is slightly sharper as it matches my screen resolution. (And really fast to process as well, six CPU cores and a powerful GPU do the trick).

But I don't have hundreds of series, and I will most likely never have, so I can afford dedicating a HDD to anime and other movies/series.

720p with some exceptions, especially some Movies I try to get my hands on the 1080p versions. like Ghibli Stuff or basically any very recent movie. I also archived a couple of series in 1080p, but only stuff like Clannad where it really makes a difference.
Movies just have much more detailed (background) art so I really feel like it makes a difference there.
I probably regret this post by now.
