preface: I don't know much about mecha anime though i wish i did. I'm sure you all have something fancier to call it than "mecha" :D

Anyway, of course I've seen Eva. I mean seriously, my 7 yr old niece has. J/K!

and i looooved the mecha designs. I thought they were insanely cool.

Which anime do you find to have the most amazing mecha designs? If they are good anime, you get bonus points. ok ok J/K again!

but seriously, what do you think? Sorry if this belongs in recommendations, I'm really just very interested in great design, for lack of a better term

Code Geass. Definitely Code Geass. The designs aren't just for show as the specs on each Knightmare seem to mirror their appearance.

I love the designs for practically any Gundam series. But my personal favorite would have to be the ones in Gundam Seed.

Assuming we're sticking to mecha suits and not just mecha in general. Eureka Seven, Nirvash and theEND.

I'm not sure about which series I think has the best designs overall but there are some mecha designs out there that I love.

If I had to name a series, based off designs, I'd probably go with Gundam SEED/Gundam SEED Destiny (favorites being Infinite Justice, Destiny, Freedom, Saviour, Duel Assault Shroud, Gouf Ignited, GuAIZ, GINN). But that's largely because I find the Muv-Luv designs more appealing in the game's art style rather than the CGI of the anime.

Not too much of a mecha fan personally but my favorite design would probably have to be from Gundam SEED. Although I did like how the mecha in Eureka Seven surfed but the design itself wasn't as cool. However if they were ever to make an anime based off the Halo books (and I know their is a halo anime out there but gonna bet that it fails the same way Heroman did) then I would say that their suits are the coolest design (if that counts as mecha).

whats muv luv? i feel so stupid asking this shit.

is it ok to just start watching Gundam Seed? Honestly I've been scared to even touch Gundam b/c there are so many series. I do my homework but Gundam confuses the crap out of me

sounds like code geass is a must see. i've always been curious about it but chasing down different types of anime.

but i do like to say: if its a good series, its good. doesn't matter what genre it is!

Gundam SEED isn't connected to any previous Gundam series so yes you can start with Gundam SEED and not be confused. Muv-Luv Alternative is originally a Visual Novel but there's an anime out for it titled Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse though I'd strongly advise trying the Novel, it's really good.

Break Blade
Escaflowne
Mazinkaiser SLK
Tekkaman Blade
And the good old Transformers (especially the Decepticons)

Just from the top of my head.

Not my favorite genre, but I've seen the ones that everyone else has seen and can give you the opinions that everyone else has given you.

Sarcasm aside, I really liked the designs from Code Geass, particularly the Tristan because it's basically a transformer and the fighter jet form it has seems much more practical for flight than the tinkerbell wings that the other flight-enabled Nightmares have.

Thrudgelmir

Knight Gear Ouga

Mazinkaiser

I really liked the designs in Mazinkaiser SKL and also for Gundam Wing. Even though the show wasn't that amazing the mechs were very cool looking, especially Epeon and Death Scythe.

I loved the mecha designs for The Five Star Stories and Gundam Wing, individually I loved the Zeta Gundam and Hyaku Shiki from Zeta Gundam, Gundam Double X from Gundam X, Gundam Unicorn, Gundam Blue Frame Astray Gai Murakumo Custom from Gundam SEED Astray MSV, and Dangaioh.
