EUROVISION SIMULWATCH 2017

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 is on May 13, 2017 (Saturday) at 7pm GMT (3PM EDT - Eastern US). You can use this converter to see what the time is in your time zone.

X countries will compete in the final round of this contest out of 42 participating countries in total.
Eurovision Song Contest General Info
Eurovision Song Contest 2017

We're trying to watch this year's Eurovision Song Contest on rabbit, so we can watch and chat at the same time:
Rabbit room TBA: http://lets.rabb.it/886j/QB43DnVu7C
at 7pm GMT (Greenwich time)
You don't have to create an account to log in.

As last year, everyone who like can grade the individual songs/performances and at the end we will see how close or not we were to predict the winner comparing our personal favorites.

This year's grading list (Word file with all countries/artists/songs in their number of appearance) can be downloaded here:
GRADING LIST
Download here!

And now for the most important thing... for those of you that don't live in Europe or inside a country that broadcasts live the competition from your TV, you can watch it on live stream on the official Eurovision channel, here:

WATCH LIVE (rabbit)[/b]
WATCH LIVE (official stream)

This is an open invitation for anyone wanting to have some fun on Saturday, chatting and listening to some music. It would be cool though to leave a comment here first, so I will pretty much know the number of the people that would like to participate.

Hope to see you around on Saturday and SPREAD THE WORD! ;)

Nice idea. Watching Eurovision is best when you can talk to someone about everything =D I don't think I'll make it until the end because I'm pretty tired, but I'll be there as long as possible ^^

That would be great Luna! ;) You can leave when the voting starts maybe, which is a long procedure anyway. It is nice then too, but the best part ofc is the songs. :)

Don't forget to download the grading form I created if you want to grade the songs while listening. http://www.sendspace.com/file/7p0gmn

Thanks for the non Office 2010 link, yeah I still have an old version but I don't like the new one :|

Now I only have to figure out how to watch this stream... I don't want to download a special plug-in only for this. Are there any other streams?

You're welcome! :) It's not as fancy as the office 2010 thing, but it's def easier to use. I switched to 2010 mostly because a lot of computers were having the newer Office and I couldn't open the files sometimes.

You don't have to download something. I know a message appears at first but just click at "no thanks" and that's it. :) I guess it lowers the quality or something, maybe delays it a bit too, but you can def watch it that way without dlding anything. I've tried it in the semi-finals and it worked! :)

That was so awesome! We need more events like this :D
If only I wasn't so tired...

My favorites are Russia, Iceland, and Sweden. I really hope that one of those wins! Well, actually the best songs are those from Iceland and Sweden, but Russia was so funny and unique, so I also liked it :P

Here are my votes:

Have fun and enjoy the rest of the show~ ^_^

Thank YOU for organizing everything. It was a lot of fun (although I could only join near the end).

I'm a bit surprised Iceland did so badly. And I wish one of my two favourites, Macedonia (:P) had placed better (Kaliopi is a great singer) but whatever.

Sweden won, that's great! I love this song and can't stop listening to it <3
And Russia got second place, awesome!
Now, why is Iceland so bad :( Even Moldavia is better? Sorry but that was so bad... well, probably many people don't vote because they liked a song but because it's their neighbor country (or they just go to the neighbor country to vote for themselves).
I'm really surprised Germany did so well. The song was soooo standard and boring.

Yea, I guess it's a combination of "I've been always watching it" and "it's amusing to watch it with friends" and well, the acts are amusing as well xD (not because they intend to be so though xD)

I'm thinking of turning this thread to a general Eurovision thread where we can post songs from previous contests and rumors about 2013 participants when the time comes etc.. and next year we can do the simul watch thing again. :)

Good idea =D

I think my favorit song so far was from Athena from Turkey. I told bill that they won, but that's not true :p That year won the Ukraine with Ruslana.. I remember that we called her Xena at home xD I think I liked that song at that time as well, but as I'm listening to it now I don't quite see how I could xD

Athena - For Real

Ruslana - Wild Dances

I really liked that Lordi won for Finland in 2006, even though I don't really like the song. It was just great, that a band that seem to have shocked everybody there and really didn't fit in there won xD

Great idea to have a general Eurovision thread. I have to admit, I almost never watched it... at most some songs after the contest. But yeah, normally no one I know wants to watch it and watching it alone is boring. I think last year was the first year where I watched the whole contest and of course this year :D

@bbmello:

Well, since you like those two so much... they already participated last year, that was their performance:

I liked that, this year was a bit boring.

@Hel:

Yeah, shocking or interesting performances often get you into a higher rank. And Lordi was definitely very special :D But I must say I LOVE their song (unfortunately I don't like their other songs...).

This was the most embarrassing song Germany ever had:

I don't know what's worse - the performance or the text.

True, true, that's probably the reason in my case too. If I were to be shown the contest for the first time I'd probably quickly dismiss it, having a reaction like 'lol wut'. But since people around me have been watching it ever since I can remember, I check it out almost every year too.
And you're definitely right, it's much more fun to watch with friends/family than alone.

Yeah, that's a good idea; I hope we simulwatch it next year.

Just one final word on this year's contest, the UK DID NOT deserve to take tbe fukken penultimate place!

I'll admit that I tend to quickly forget Eurovision songs, so it's impossible to make a personal list of best/most loved songs, but I'll just drop a few of my those I can remember.

As it can be seen, I'm clearly biased for songs with powerful (female) vocals. On the other side of my liking spectrum are (pop) boy bands and, surprisingly, most dance songs (I actually like that music, but somehow rarely do such songs I hear on Eurovision clicks with me).
Ofc, there are other songs I liked at the time I heard them, but have long since forgotten them (tnx, my great memory).
There are also songs I don't exactly hold in high regard, but I find them catchy, like these:

Now that I think it, songs like Sertab Erner's are probably most suited for success on Eurovision.

@Luna

I really like Hard Rock Hallelujah and some other songs by Lordi like Would You Love a Monsterman, it was a big hit here years before they participated to Eurovision in 2006. Maybe the most memorable Eurovision winner of all time indeed.

I think that Iceland's song was so easily the best that it ain't even funny. Can't deal with how small number of points it got.

Anyway, it was pretty clear that Sweden was going to win it, pretty much the only question was by how big margin it would do that. Gongratulations to our dear neighbours, even though I got bored to that song even before the Eurovision finals aired, since you heard it constantly from radios and in night clubs. Guess that is the curse of the hit songs. :D

I wasn't there around to hear those oldies, but sometimes I use my microwave time machine to go back in time and watch certain Eurovosion editions live (that one in Monaco was quite jolly, with 4 countries ending in a tie for the first place).
Seriously though, when I'm bored I go on 'netxploring', that's how I found them out.
I think the first Eurovision I watched was in 1998 (or was it in 1997). I haven't followed it every year since then, but I'll be sure to watch it next year if we do simulwatch again :)

Speaking of oldies, here's a song from the year I was born in - Switzerland's winning entry sung by Celine Dion.
