Although I don't watch/remember very many fight scenes, Archer vs Berserker in Fate/Stay Night remains a highlight in the series. Actually, thinking back, Saito vs Army at the end of S2 was pretty good. It wasn't brilliantly animated, nor was it a battle of epic proportions, but it just struck me as being very touching. |

Black Rock Shooter against Everyone. They're my new favored battles just because they're plain action, no needless chatter or comment on how "I'll fight for my friends"; "My willpower gives me true power" or "Now I'll use my secret technique and finish you off", just plain, well-made, stylish battle, as it's supposed to be. (if you don't count the "real world" cuts.) |

This is how I measure a great fight scene: The five key elements: Animation, Choreography, Strategy & Tactics, Intensity, Sound & Music. The most important key elements for me, are animation and choreography. The choreography shows the technicality of those in the fight. It also shows the complexity which makes it more unpredictable and exiting. Animation enhances the choreography and makes it look beautiful much like watching a great dance-battle, but instead of a dance-style it's martial-art. If you take away the choreography and animation of a fight it is no longer so great. Strategy & Tactics brings more hype and intelligence into the play which makes it more exiting to watch. Intensity, What I mean by that, is that the fight isn't spent 50% of the time talking. It takes away the hype they brought up into the fight. However, talking in a fight can also bring more hype to it. Here's an example of what I mean by great fight scene. From Hunter x Hunter, Gon vs Hisoka (2011): Using the video I've embedded I'd give it the following points: Choreography: 5/5 Animation: 3/4 Strategy & Tactics: 2/3 Intensity 2/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 Total: 13 This means according to this sytem a fight can be given at most a total of 15 points. 7 or below: Bad 8-10: OK 11-15: Good Choreography and Animation gives more point because I believe they weight more than the other components. I'm gonna post more fight scenes and rank them differently so get a view of how I refer to this system What are your opinions, what do you look for in a fight-scene, what do you recommend? |

That's quite a difficult question. If I had to recommend an anime with good fights then I would recommend Fate/Zero. The animations are great, and from what I can say the choreography also is. There are fights where strategy and tactics play a big role, but of course not all are *cough*berserker*cough* The music in this anime is also great and ups the intensity of the fights. It even gives grand scales in some instance, which I in particular like in battles. Another anime I could recommend if you're looking for great battles is Berserk. I'd like to post video's, but I don't know what you'd think about the possible spoilers |

I would have to say the fights from either Ben-To or Darker than Blacker are on my best fight list. I just like their style and, think they are interesting to watch. If Kenichi got a second season those fights would also be very good animated. |

I thought another good fight scene (and I would actually say all of them since they fight 3 times) is Black Star vs. Mifune in Soul Eater. Choreography was excellent considering Black Star and Mifune's fighting styles and there was a lot of strategy in each fight rather than just reckless dumb sword swinging. |

In the beginning it was tactics, skills, intelligence etc. But escalated to the point were one swords slash destroyed everything in its path... lol. Same with Naruto, has nothing to do with Ninja's anymore. It's wizards throwing incredible strong spells against each other that destroys almost everything. Well i'll just post some fighting scenes i though to be awesome Tenjou Tenge - Nagi vs Takayanagi Tenjou Tenge - bunshichi tawara vs shin natsume Tenjou Tenge is not that great in the story department but somehow i find it to be sadly underrated. Sadly there is only AMV's of the best Gintama fights but anyway. The show itself being more about comedy then drama, it sure can pull the most impressive and intense fighting scenes i've seen in anime. This is the only one i can find right now. Definitely not one of my favorite fights but still kicks more ass then a mule on steroids. And people, say what you say about how Naruto is right now but the first Naruto series was dynamite up to the point were they did those 100+ fillers and jumped to Shippuuden In terms of animation and choreocraphy this scene takes the cake i'd say... ... Also it's fucking badass |

This is probably the best fight scene in Naruto when it was still about Ninjas. The Forest of Death was also my favorite part of Naruto due to the excitment and mystery it still had Choreography: 5/5 Animation: 3/4 Strategy & Tactics: 3/3 Intesity: 2/2 Sound & Effects 1/1 Total: 14/15 |

I second Fate/Zero, although it has some heavy dialogues, but the action in it is one of the best I've ever seen, here's a scene from the first big fight in the show, it has like 3-4 fights, this video has 2 of them: I also second Ben-to, it had great fights and the main theme is kinda original, fighting over Ben-to that is: Afro Samurai had some good fights too, the 5-episode series that is (the movie sucks), here's the first scene in it iirc: |

Well I'm not gonna say anything new here because most of the really good battle anime are well known already - Hajime No Ippo - this anime should have been listed already. We don't need fuckin' magic to make a fight epic and HnI proves it. Fate/Zero - great new series, probably the best animation and art out of any battle anime made so far. Kara no Kyoukai 5 - just mentioning because it wasn't listed yet, I enjoyed the fight in this movie a lot Personally my favorite fights will probably always be from One Piece. They are strategic, well choreographed, emotional, climactic, and just generally a lot of fun to watch. I mean forget Naruto and Bleach's 1-2 good fights, OP has enough to fill an Encyclopedia - Luffy vs. Lieutenant Fullbody Luffy vs. Arlong Luffy vs. Crocodile Luffy vs. Eneru Luffy vs. Rob Lucci Straw Hats vs. Gecko Moria Blackbeard vs. Ace Luffy vs. Magellan Whitebeard War Arc And even then that skipping over a lot of good fights, particularly the ones with Zoro. Oh and Hunter x Hunter is cool too. I've only seen the first anime, glad to hear that people are digging the remake. My plan is to wait a couple more years so that I can marathon in to the newer material yet to be animated. |

Fate/Zero is definitely going to be next anime I watch! But I do not agree with you what comes to Hajime No Ippo. The fighting scenes were horrible, it's the same sequences going over and over. No choregraphy. Kinda similar to Fairy Tail except instead of magic it was punches, that's the reason I never got hooked. However, Story stands above everything. Code Geass fighting scenes with robots, was nothing I really thought was cool however I think the story was really great. And I don't think you udnestand what I mean by choreography. Because One Piece definetly doesn't have lot of choreographied fighting scenes. Even though they are really enjoyable because of the emotional attachment. |

Fate zero has a bunch, and kara no kyoukai as well. Its basically the entire anime, minus dialog obviously. They are all over the place.(fate zero) and kara no kyoukai had a few as well. Theres one or two really good ones in Bleach, and quite a few great ones in one piece. The fight you linked(and lots of others) from Hunter x Hunter is one of the best as well. The best though, overall, is Kenshin vs Shishio. Not for the actual fighting, just for.. everything else. |

Choreography: 3/5 Animation: 3/4 Strategy & Tactics: 1/3 Intensity: 1/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 Total: 9/15 An example of an average fight scene. The overall anime was good, but towards the end and when Rin revealed his powers it wasn't exiting no more. The end was really disappointing too. |

Fate/Zero Seriously, spoiler is here for a reason. Click it at your own risk. Emiya Kiritsugu vs Kotomine Kirei This fight was absolutely amazing. It was adapted pretty well, and the fight is an epic part of Fate/Zero. I usually rate fights based on how well they stick to the source material and animation quality. |

I don't really have a scoring system... it's basically whatever has a big impact on me, I guess. Does the fight have me on the edge of my seat? Does it have a lot of emotion? Am I really invested in the scene? That's pretty much my reasoning. Though of course animation, dialogue (if there is any), and choreography have an effect on how much I like the scene. Off the top of my head, one of my favorite fight scenes is Vash vs. Knives from Trigun. It's pretty damn intense. (Also the fights from Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Soul Eater, and especially FMA tend to be pretty good) |

I understand what you mean, for example in One Piece, Luffy vs Pacifista after the time-skip, don't know wether or not you follow One Piece. I has so hooked and it had a huge impact on me. But as a fight, meaning as an artwork itself I don't think it was particularly special. The fight was more as a story-mark showing Luffy's progression and that progression was something we wanted to see so badly. When Luffy fights Bellamy, man that shit was so epic I almost cried hahaha. But, as a fight, itself. If you show the fight to someone who doesn't have the same emotional attachment to the story or they haven't seen One Piece. They'd say the fight-scene was shit. |

Despite being more character/drama focused, Ashita no Joe(manga) has some great fights.Way better/more entertaining than Ippo's, I'd say. They're filled with shocking twists, lots and lots of strategy, and the opponents are always so different from each other with each having their unique view on boxing. One fight never feels like a rehash of another, ever.I especially love how they always have some purpose/impact on things and aren't just random skirmishes. My personal favorite is the Rikiishi fight, it's a masterpiece. Besides that, I like the fights in One Piece, my favorites being Crocodile vs Luffy and Luffy vs Bellamy(ownage).I also enjoy Gintama fights, I particularly liked Gintoki vs Jigoro, Gintoki and Zura vs the Amanto, Gintoki vs Housen and Kagura vs that other guy in Yoshiwara(that was amazing!) In LOGH, though it was short, I really liked seeing Reuental vs Schenkopp, it was great. Two of my favorite characters in the show fighting, pure awesomeness.Kircheis vs those assholes that were after him in Spiral Labyrinth was super cool, too.Lol, this probably doesn't count but Oberstein getting assaulted by Bittenfield was fucking hilarious. Let's see...I also enjoyed seeing Ran kick some serious ass with her karate in Detective Conan movie 13 against that scarred old guy in disguise,or when in the series itself there was this ambush thing in the woods after a case and she owned all the criminals along with some other badass guy.And how could I forget, when in movie 7 literally almost everyone(minus Shiratori...Lol) owned the criminals at the end, that was pretty damn cool. |

I always felt like Samurai Champloo had the best fight scene. Not only do they look amazing, but they are also pretty realistic. The sword fights are never the classic "lets bang swords until the protagonist gets a random surge of power and wins." The fights scenes are real sword fights with the intent to kill. If you don't have the skill to win, then your screwed. Contains spoilers for later episodes, including the last |

I like your weighing of the aspects so I'll use it :P As for choreography the 5/5 means good for anime and I'm lowering my standards since no anime has ever come close to FF7: Advent Children in that department for me. So it doesn't really mean perfect An anime with mindless fights will get 0 in the strategy department but good choreography can mean good strategy so any anime with 4+ choreography will get at least 1 point in S&T Here's my list: Gon vs Hisoka: Choreography: 4/5 Animation: 3/4 Strategy & Tactics: 2/3 Intensity 2/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 12/15 Hisoka vs Togari(Episode 10) Choreography: 5/5 Animation: 3/4 Strategy & Tactics: 1/3 Intensity 2/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 12/15 Killer bee vs Sasuke: Choreography: 5/5 (My personal favorite in anime) Animation: 2/4 Strategy & Tactics: 1/3 Intensity 2/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 11/15 Luffy vs Wiper Choreography: 3/5 Animation: 1/4 Strategy & Tactics: 1/3 Intensity 1/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 7/15 Fate/Zero fights Choreography: 2/5 Animation: 4/4 +1 Bonus for being THAT good. Strategy & Tactics: 1/3 Intensity 0-1/2 (most of the time the tension is killed by Gilgamesh's cheesy trash-talking.) Sound & Effects: 1/1 9-10/15 Bleach fights Choreography: 3/5 Animation: 3/4 Strategy & Tactics: 0/3 Intensity 0/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 7/15 Dragon Ball Z Choreography: 1/5 Animation: 2/4 Strategy & Tactics: 1/3 (not sure if it deserves that) Intensity 2/2 Sound & Effects: 0/1 6/15 Naruto & Sasuke vs Zabuza + Kakashi vs Zabuza Choreography: 2/5 Animation: 3/4 Strategy & Tactics: 3/3 Intensity 2/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 11/15 One Piece fights Choreography: 1/5 Animation: 1/4 Strategy & Tactics: 1/3 Intensity 0/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 4/15 L vs Light (LOL) Choreography: 5/5 (A punch to the face then a kick to the chin) Animation: 4/4 Strategy & Tactics: 3/3 Intensity 2/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 15/15 xD (jk) I remember samurai champloo having good fights but I don't remember how they went and since I haven't finished it I can't give a score so mayble I'll come back later) |

Luffy vs Bellamy, the face of the characters after the fight symbolizes my face as well... Ippo vs Sendo, This fight, like almost all hajime no ippo fights, gave me goosebumps , but this was just over the top. Takamura vs Hawk, Holy shit I have lot's more. There's some from Bleach. Lots from One piece, like Luffy vs Rob Lucci, Luffy vs Bellamy and so on. All the Hajime no ippo fights and all the fate/zero fights. And the Gurren Laggan fights are good too. |

I like how almost nobody is using your system and the topic derailed to another post your fav fights video thread. Here's mine: Choreography: 5/5 Animation: 4/4 Strategy & Tactics: 2/3 Intensity 2/2 Sound & Effects: 1/1 Total: 14 -Tactics come into play when it's about terrain advantage. -No power ups, no "special attacks", no long overdrawn dialogue, just raw fast-paced sword fight. -Epic music. -Watch the full last 15 minutes or so in the movie rather than the Youtube vid, despite HD, YT sometimes blur the action. -Probably the best animated fight I've seen yet. Choreography was spot-on excellence. |

In the beginning it was tactics, skills, intelligence etc. But escalated to the point were one swords slash destroyed everything in its path... lol. Same with Naruto, has nothing to do with Ninja's anymore. It's wizards throwing incredible strong spells against each other that destroys almost everything. There's a veeeeeeery large difference between dragonball where the destroy fucking entire planets and bleach. Besides, Bleach never uses 5 minutes to use one attack like they do in shitty dragonball |
