Nothing is really "good" about it really. /a/ is the type of thing you'd go on when you have shit all to do with your life.
And it's only really interesting if you read and watch across a wide range of genres, without much discrimination.
The moment you stop watching like 10+ series a season, and reading so many manga titles - everything starts seeming alien to you.

This is only talking about the side of /a/ that actually goes on the board for what it's for though..the somewhat interesting side.

Otherwise.. it's a shithole full of guys forcing memes and the likes. Very few anons are actually funny and original these days.

Really, you shouldn't even try starting to fit in there.
Imo, lurking that joint is a waste of time. There's no real gain at the end of the day, and if you don't listen to this now - you'll end up telling this to yourself when you finally quit anyway.

Don't need to quit anime watching if you enjoy it. It's true however that 4chan isn't a good place to hang around. /b/ especially is full of the worst kinds of people you can find on the interweb. Just stay away from it, all you'll get are 'newfag' replies if any.

/b/ is okay for killing time though, I've never been on /a/; been going to /b/ occasionally for a few years now. Some times there's some really good threads, but most of the time it's not worth your time. It's also cool to be able to see a meme's birth. Lurk there for a few days and your bound to witness the creation of an almighty meme that is guaranteed to stay with the interweb culture for years.

Some guy actually predicted that Rebecca Black's video was going to go viral somehow, it was on about 200 views when I got linked to it from 4chan.
