I wonder what they use to do those hardsubbed karaoke and how they do it. (eg. Eclipse, Frostii, m33w, etc etc)

I think aegisub is for the softsub one.

You can use Aegisub to make funky effects, for example text getting bigger/smaller, moving text, etc. But usually they use Adobe After Effects to make all the particle effects and stuff like that.
