Thank goodness, the recap only lasted for 2 minutes this time. I mean a 5 minute recap isn’t something to take pride in and isn’t something which should become a trend too…

Also yeah, it was actually quite baffling how those two grim reapers were going on and on with all that fancy talk, and nobody could hear them, when of course, Ciel and Sebestian were just a few meters away lol. That being that, I’m just glad they’re finally returning back to the “outer” world, because yeah, seeing the kind of advancements this village had, won’t be surprised if they’ve a nuke too somewhere in the basement lying in wait xD Jokes aside btw, they fucking nailed that scene with Wolfram chasing Sullivan despite everything he already went through.

If he had died there just like that, then yeah, that would’ve actually pissed me off. As you know despite the recaps eating away 20-30 percent of episode runtime, this arc has been really good otherwise, with the actual content that has been covered. Wolf’s backstory went as expected, I mean that is how characters like him are written. The transition from the “grey” world to a world full of colours signifies the importance Sullivan had in Wolf’s life, so she actually “saving” him in the end was just poetic. Really nice episode, and a good wrap up to the arc as well.

When Crunchyroll had 1 job and they managed to screw even subtitles, not surprised, just disappointed, again...

I didn't create some strong bond to Wolfram so this episode is kinda meh for me. I see him as shady person without character who is trying to fix things in the last minute. Yes it's nice he is trying to fix it and save Emerald Witch but "hey, I've been lying to you for all those years, your entire life is a huge lie but I hope you'll forgive me if I shoot this 1 soldier". I kinda don't buy it.

More than anything, I've been hoping in some bigger interaction with reapers.

Subtitle fiasco aside....

The calmness of the final few minutes of this episode was a relief after the heavy action we got in the last two. Wolfram really wants to make it up to Sieglide, I can tell that much. Through the flashback we saw how he changed to adore her as a little daughter and I believe he was on autopilot for most of the last two episodes given his upbringing. Doesn't change that, at the end of the day, this poor girl was lied to but at least there's someone in her life who cares about her and loves her enough to try and change.

Also, am I the only one who's obsessed with the way Ledger says Sascha lmao? Can't wait to see more of those two.

They fixed the subs fast.

Wolfram found colors in his world thanks to Sieglinde, don't really care. They really cleaned every last person there aside from these two, brutal. Anyway that's the end of the wolf village mystery. Still two episodes left so I'd like to see some chill amusing content like Elizabeth and Sieglinde interact.

It was great to finally see Wolf realize that he loves Sullivan, that she's his daughter.

It's always fun to see Ciel and Sebastian irritating each other.

This episode didn't have a recap, which was a nice change of pace.

@iluvmozu I figured he had grown to see her as a surrogate daughter & I was right. He really cared, enough to betray the rest of those German army SOBs who were going to kill her.
But sorry guys, chemical weapons aren't the ultimate weapons of war. They aren't going to help you all that much in the next big war. Trust me, I'm psychic, I know this. LOL

@Sheol01 The scenes with the flashbacks absolutely killed me; he genuinely loves her so much and I'm really happy he decided to follow her instead of fulfilling his orders. I just hope nothing bad comes out of this.

Oh yeah definitely lmao, they have no idea what's coming for them in a few years.....

Yeeeeeeees! That's the ending for Sieglinde and Wolfram I hoped/wished for.

I really hoped the whole season long Wolfram would do something good and even he had a difficult past!
So thankful for Ciel and Sebastian for saving him. They also did it for Sieglinde <3

tldr for the whole arc: militarism is our true enemy
(also i literally can't believe how strong this season is when the earlier episodes it was like "we have to endure the most overt p*do catering in black butler anime history like seriously man" because there is a goldmine, trust.)

Ciel's ancestors must be hiding an interesting secret.
This may indicate that grandfather married into the Phantomhive family.

That look suggests - Sebastian suspects something and it seems to worry him. How could he (the demon) not detect the two Shinigami while Ciel (the human) detected them?

Wolfram’s death was a remarkable act in this season, Ms. Sullivan must very upset now. I hope she finds a better butler!

This episode is very moving
Not having a 7 minute recap this time was nice x)
Besides, the way Sebastian spoke about the shinigami made me laugh, he was relieved not to come across any annoying people on duty this time.

I never really liked Wolfram's but with this episode I was touched, JA !

What a disappointing, dull, uninspiring season, I personally don't give a fudge about this so called "Emerald Witch" and I care even less about her proto n@zi butler & company.

The story is over and there is still two episode left in the season, someone did a mistake down the line, forgot that 2+2=4 or something and now we are left with two episode of fillers.

This show has been on a down spiral for a while now the last great season was Book of Circus.

They should have stopped there, especially after that abomination called Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic . But noooooo.

The story is not quite over. They still have to make a report to the Queen, and the Queen herself would like to see this young girl (she mentioned it in a letter).

The story will likely continue until Ciel's revenge is complete, thus ending the contract between Ciel and Sebastian.

I don't really want to spoil it for you as a manga reader, but we will have one more arc after this before we have the arc where everything actually ties up. These arcs may seem meaningless for now, but all these arcs (Circus, Atlantic, Emerald Witch, etc) are building up to a pivotal moment in this story where everything will be turned upside down. In case you haven't noticed the subtle clues and foreshadowing yet, each of these arcs serve us pieces of Ciel's past that has yet to be fully uncovered and there is also an overarching conspiracy in the shadows. All these arcs are written with a very important purpose behind them, but it does demand your attention and patience as the payoff isn't until much later. Personally, even without the arcs directly contributing to Ciel, I don't see why you can't just enjoy the arcs for what they are. Anyways, the manga is still not finished, so there is still a lot of story left to cover.

I'm delighted that Wolffman is still alive to protect Sullivan.

His flashback made me teared, specifically the part where he mentioned how she brought his life colour and a reason to protect.

@BlueMoonTornado I may see how some people can find these seasons boring or filler-ish but yeah, you are indeed correct, the payoff will be huge. Still, I wonder why people suffer through seasons upon seasons of something they have no interest in. Can't say the previous one was 10/10 either (unlike Circus, Murder or Atlantic), yet they still keep coming back, huh?

Dunno. Me personally, I don't think this season is "bad", it has nazi werewolves for Christ's sake, how cool is that?

@TheMangaManiac Personally, I enjoyed all the manga-adaptation arcs for themselves, and found them a lot more compelling than the anime-only opening seasons, which says quite a lot since that's what introduced me to the franchise. A real FMA vs FMA:B moment.

When I first got into Black Butler, they had just aired BBII, and moving from that to the manga and seeing the difference in story direction hooked me so much that I'm keeping up with chapter releases to this day... Personally, I wasn't sure we would see a new adaptation anytime soon since so much time had passed since Book of the Atlantic (which I was fortunate enough to catch in theatres), but the new arcs easily solidified themselves as favorite seasons for being faithful adaptations of favorite manga arcs.

Reading comments talking about how boring they find it almost makes me feel like I'm reading comments from an alternate universe, lol. Because this is the content manga-readers were waiting for, afaik. And I think this is probably almost as far as we can go without going into an arc that's still being written.

Guess it's a good thing I started binging this later so I wasn't impacted by the subtitles fiasco. This also left me slightly less bothered with the excessively long recaps (mini grr vs. GRR!)

From Episode 7 it's been a wild ride and this episode just cemented BB as my Spring 2025 AOTS.
* Superb story, particularly for military history geeks who don't mind a good take on alt-history.
* Blend of Spectacular Action scenes with dramatic dialogue scenes.
* Beautiful character design and good animation by Cloverworks. All the food porn scenes were *muah* chef's kiss.
* Shocks and Surprises, plot twists!
This anime had it all and we saw all of it this episode. 10/10 masterpiece.

Ciel - your team is superb, whoever your HR is I'd like to hire them for talent acquisition. Sebastian, Finn, Sniper Mey Rin, Tanaka the Samurai Swordsman, Brad the bomb making cook and snake guy. All A+ performance evaluations, would give raise.

Seriously it wasn't until Keats that I realized Snake guy named all his friends after famous literary figures! Clearly Oscar = Oscar Wilde, Emily = Emily Bronte, Woodsworth = poet William Woodsworth etc. Neat little literary Easter Egg homage!

We got Wolf's tragic backstory in black and white where he was trained and indoctrinated bla bla bla duty, Then the color came into his world with Sieglinde, he cared so much for her she was practically his daughter. He shot a superior officer to save her. All those emotional scenes left me feeling like I was cutting onions. I'm so happy Ciel got Sebastian to save Wolf. Now I need to go clean this "dusty" room, my eyes are acting up.

Holy.. Wolf.. they actually shot down the man..

Injustice 😔 but man does that hit. At least he was helping her in the end. He could go down with no regrets. Or at least, thats what I thought til it wound up he was saved. She brought color to his gray world. And now through that bloody mess she's saving him 🙏

Perhaps she will go on to be a doctor given her intellect. She doesn't exactly have to create mustard gas for anybody else now. Altho the English crown might just nudge her that way if they wanted that.

The pretty much no recap this episode was nice 🙏 I take that

At the beginning of this season, I thought some things were predictable and I see I was wrong. (Positively)
Everything we've seen here has been intense. And Wolfram's past has been sad and pointless. Good thing he's saved.
There's been more action than I expected and I'm certainly satisfied with the content. The end is almost here.
