There's stereotype that male author can't make good female character and female author can't make good male character. Who do you think those special authors?
For example: my opinion is Aka Akasaka, either with Kaguya-sama or Oshi no Ko

Studio Ghibli is full of female characters that are well-known for a reason. I'm always impressed with how Miyazaki and Takahata write so many compelling girls and women of all ages (and even gives them the leading role in most of the films), but Ghibli feels like too easy of an answer, so others that are coming to me off the top of my head: Satoru Noda with "Golden Kamuy." It's astounding to have an anime exist where the male characters are sexualized and the female characters are not. While there's definitely more male characters, I think Asirpa is a great character and the few women who do show up are fun in their own way.

Also, shout out to Naoki Urasawa specifically for Eva in "Monster." In the hands of most male authors, I feel like she'd get absolutely trashed on without any redemption, but Urasawa actually bothered to write a character arc for her and show that even those who seem to lack it can have humanity in them.

I'll agree to disagree on this.

EDIT: Realizing that Ghibli doesn't really count if we're only supposed to consider manga here (I was just thinking male writers in general), so good thing I added the others - although I have read "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" and thought Nausicaä felt more like a symbol than a character and that it's a good thing Miyazaki stuck to movies.

@nightjasmine
I've read a bunch of Hagio's manga and I think she kind of sucks at writing boys.
Peach Pit does a good job of it.

I think that's dumb and that if you think that you need to read more series. There's a ton of women who write good guy characters and men who write good girl characters. I wouldn't say its a special trait it's just pretty normal if you look at anything outside of the lowest common denominator battle shounen and isekai.

That stereotype isn't really true, good writers write good characters
But the best example of a man writing woman is Inio Asano, both solanin and dead dead demon's dededede destruction

Proper male characters are quite rare, but Natsuo I like.
Also this is the only manga whose author's gender I know...

I'd say nearly all talented authors can create really good characters regardless their gender. I mean, not every good manga has great male/female characters but when they don't I think that's usually because the author's priorities lie in other places at the expense of making certain characters shine, not because they're unable to do it. However, I think the characterization of the female characters in shonen manga created by women tends to be a tad more... insightful? In a subtle and natural way. Fullmetal Alchemist comes to mind, for example.

So it might be a matter of standards. If that's what we're demanding I believe there may be some truth behind the stereotype. But doing solid characters of any gender, race, etcetera is a matter of competence. Of course the more knowledge and understanding about them they have the better, but that's something anyone can acquire.
