Is it really that popular in Japan? I was forced to put the second season on pause, as the sudden dive into the lore was wildly putting me to sleep. Should I continue watching this anime, maybe I just ended up in a bad arc and everything will be fine again?

Expectations: it will be another bad adaptation with smooth animations. Whatever. 🥲

Answer if you should continue or not: try it first from S1.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

It seems quite popular apparently. No idea though. I wanted to read the light novels after the first season but there's no physical ones.
I enjoyed the second season and will definitively watch this third one.

If you started to fall asleep watching this then maybe it isn't for you but you should at least finish this season to see if next season is something you want to jump into when it arrives. I enjoy this for the comedy parts mostly.

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

The action scenes at the end of S2 was nice to see after lots of talking.

Also we got trash talking which made the fights even better.

@Azuchi Well, I really liked the first season, but the second one seemed to decide to become the most serious OP fantasy possible.

As someone who's read a not insignificant part of the web novel I can see why it's popular. It's a really interesting isekai with an interesting world and (mostly) fun characters (I still hate Mio).

Sadly it seems like the anime didn't adapt it all too well, but those changes probably did make it more interesting to a general audience.

the last few episodes of the season were pretty solid and though overall it wasn't as fun as season one, i still can go for more so it's nice to hear it got renewed, didn't really expect a third season though, nice.

The anime is overall pretty good. It reminds me of Overlord a lot (which is one of my favorite animes), but with more childish elements to it. It's one of the better Isekai out there, I hope it continues.

@shizzmynizz I heard that Overlord, Slime and this show were a pretty old LN subgenre that influenced each other.

@RobertBobert Really? That may be why I love all of them, lol. However, Overlord is just in a league of its own.

Watched Overlord in its entirety 3 times. So far.

@shizzmynizz I am not an expert in this, I’ll say it right away. But in one of the threads about who copied whom, one dude wrote that the authors of the original LN developed this together many years ago and even discussed in interviews how they were inspired and developed the general idea of a state of monsters.

I didn't expect it to continue into the third season they're currently producing, but it's worth the wait because I'm still curious about how Makoto will get his parents' information here.

People kept complaining about S2 because there was no action + they focused a bit on new characters that will influence the story heavily

People also complained about this season of slime because they kept discussing their plans for a few eps

The season was good even without the action because all the events contribute to the overall story ... if you want action only go watch shonen jump animes

The WN/LN of this anime are older than slime btw so I won't be surprised if it influenced slime.

@RobertBobert That's not my point

Most people who complained kept saying where is the action why are they talking only?

If you look at their lists they purely watch action generally

Same thing with Mushoku tensei S2 part 1 people complained because there was no action ... that arc was important to the story but as I said most people want action with good animation

How do I know? you will see they only praised the last 2-3 eps because of the action

@UaEfAlCoN83 I don't remember people expecting JUST action, but even so, I think it's the opposite extreme. Not to mention, people apparently praised the action episodes partly because they were tired of the talking in past episodes.

@RobertBobert It is the same reason while anime watchers hated vinland saga 2 compared to 1 -- most anime watchers nowadays expect action

@UaEfAlCoN83 You are generalizing about things that are different in context. All of these shows were action adventures and the purely conversational seasons surprised and frustrated people. Especially Vinland Saga, which literally unofficially switched genres in its second season. It's pointless to generalize this about a simple "people don't like talking", let alone trying to relate it to a show that didn't have much action in the first place. With the same logic you can say that people hate Yuru Camp and Takagi-san. This is starting to sound like the typical silly argument over Hollywood shows where people are accused of sexism because the protagonist they don't like is female.

@RobertBobert I am not here to argue I stated my opinion that many people seek action only and this is why they hated this season and slime's current season ...

I am not saying this applies to every single person but this is what I perceived from over the past 3 months + for other animes.
I have noticed that arcs with more action usually gets ranked higher than other arcs even if they were written better.

Let's not forget that most watchers started anime because of action-based series (especially those who started after 2013).

The main genres of the LN are Adventure, and Fantasy so you can expect characters to talk a lot

This is my point.

I saw people complaining about "talking" as if that wasn't relevant to the story ... they also complained when they showed other heros and kept saying we don't care about random characters; this shows that many watchers are seeking one thing only.

If people provided "constructive criticism" on why they hated the talking I wouldn't have taken my current stance ... but based on what I noticed most of them keep saying where is the action?

So to summarize I am talking about those people not every single watcher who complained

@RobertBobert

For me this anime is 7/10 it is not even something I like a lot; it is ok

So my point of view is not of a fan

Whatever I am saying is based on my interactions with others and not just random talks but these are only opinions and you can have your own it is fine.

-----

If you want a straight answer

I will not recommend resuming the anime nor recommend dropping it because it is your taste and you should decide for yourself

You came and asked about season 3 before finishing season 2 which doesn't make sense to be honest because people who liked it will probably be the ones who answer you

Some animes are getting 999 seasons and they are bad in my opinion but others are enjoying it ... I will not bother and try those animes again because I know what I like and what I don't

But generally, if you like slime for the world building you will like this probably because they are similar to some extent

If you like it for the action then this anime does not focus much on action -- at least for now.

if you like the characters then I think you should continue

If you like it for some other reason then I don't know

But a rule of thumb, if you hate something don't bother with it and waste your time. There are other things to watch that you might enjoy more.

@UaEfAlCoN83 People don't hate anything in the first place. You simply reduce their position to the point of absurdity so that you can then easily dismiss their complaints as hatred. This is pure scarecrow. People don't become haters just because you personally think their criticism is excessive and unfounded.

@RobertBobert Lol nothing wrong with hating anything

Why are you making it seem as if "hate" does not exist? I hate some animes nothing wrong with that.

No one said their position is absurd.

For example I hate wasabi yet some people like it ... nothing wrong

It seems that you keep referring to "straw man fallacy" ... people use the argument of scarecrow when they don't like the opposite opinion

I clearly said "my opinion" and never said it is a fact. People can like and hate whatever they want.

If I want to reduce their position I would have gone to their profiles like an idiot.

You asked about this anime so I stated an opinion about why it is not bad and explained why many people are complaining about it.

No need to continue this endless sequence of replies. I told you each one has their own taste so pick for yourself bro. If you don't hate anything then finish the anime

@UaEfAlCoN83 Because in my opinion, you are confusing hatred and the banal “I consider their criticism unjustified.” It’s like calling everyone who, in someone’s opinion, loves the show too much and supposedly “ignores the obvious disadvantages” are crazy fanboys. Just because people complain about the extreme focus on dialogue in an action-adventure show doesn't mean they don't like dialogue in general. Hell, one of the three most popular shows this season is a remake of a PURE talk anime. Moreover, dedicated to talking about very specific things.

@RobertBobert Bro let's calm down

Either I am not delivering my point well or you are not getting it. Opinions don't need to be justified.
I hate girls love animes, why? because I don't like them I don't need any more reason.
If people dropped this because there is no action it is up to them.
I am just saying that many complained but many others will enjoy the anime because it doesn't focus on action.

Also rankings do not reflect on who watched what. Gintama is ranked among top 10 but wasn't watched by most anime watchers.

Rankings and likings are very subjective.

Someone might like action-only but not like a specific action-only anime because for whatever reason. That's totally fine.

I hate evangelion for many reasons, but people like it. I don't see why they like it but it is up to them. I can tell you why I hate it and I can tell you why I like it but it does not invalidate your point of view because enjoyment -- as I said -- is subjective.

My point is: Comments sometimes mislead people into not watching a specific anime.
If you prefer action this is not for you, if you like other stuff also you might like this anime so give it a shot until the end.

Hope this helps and thanks for the good discussion.

@UaEfAlCoN83 That’s the problem, no one says “I prefer action, I don’t like dialogue.” People complain that almost the entire season is devoted entirely to dialogue and this is unusual for the show. Imagine if suddenly a whole new season of Spice and Wolf turned into battle shonen with a minimum of talking. If people started complaining, would you tell them "if you prefer dialogue, then maybe this show isn't for you"?

@RobertBobert I don’t think it is a valid comparison here

This anime from the start seemed to focus on dialogue and the MC as a merchant — this is at least what I got.

For vinland for example; the plot was about his journey and while season 1 had more action the elements of “don’t focus on revenge” was already there which shows that the plot might shift. For vinland however I understand why people might complain.

This doesn’t change my argument

If a friend who prefers action and shonen asks me about vinland I wouldn’t recommend it even if s1 has action. Same for this anime and slime.

Does that mean they will not like these animes? Not necessarily because they might like other aspects of the anime.

Now after 2 seasons it is clear that this show doesn’t focus on action so moving forward will I suggest it to action lovers? No

Does that mean all of them will hate the anime? No

Do they have the right to complain that the anime took an unexpected shift — from their point of view —? Yea

Does this happen a lot in animes? Not much it mostly happen for seinen not shonen

All animes have dialogues otherwise there will be no plot at all. It is just that do people enjoy heavy dialogues or not? It is up to them.

Also people’s tastes change over time so this is something to consider.

@UaEfAlCoN83 This show has never just focused on dialogue. It was first and foremost an adventure show. And even if the show had dialogue before, that doesn't justify SUDDENLY A WHOLE SEASON almost exclusively being about that. And not just about dialogue, but about poorly animated dialogue in one room, where sitting characters just talk boringly to each other. I understand that you want to protect your favorite show, but scarecrow like this simply won't solve the problem. You just start looking to other people like the cynical showrunner who says "we've changed your favorite show to our liking and if you don't like it, turn off the TV."

@RobertBobert The show has many elements into it: including adventure, slice of life, action, fantasy

You stopped at episode 3
Some action scenes will be shown soon (I don’t want to spoil)

They really didn’t do like slime where 7 eps where filled with only dialogues

For slime the transition was slow generally because all fans know that he is building a country so they have to discuss strategies.

Back to this show, I think the issue is they changed the order of events because season 1 was short so it they didn’t change the order they would have had a season free of action.

I understand your frustration; I was pissed for example when gintama tried to out-of-place jokes in a very serious arc

I was also annoyed by the last arc of slime that was shown in season 1 (it was unnecessary in my opinion and out of place)

But I am telling you this anime is worth it.
I think this LN is doing as well as slime and it is very popular at leat in Japan. It still has action, adventures, world building. Maybe the anime didn’t do it justice but it is still not bad

I had similar discussion with someone who liked s1 and hated s2

For me I like the beginning of s2 more than s1 because I was expecting this kind of anime to begin with.

Expectations ruin enjoyment sometimes.
It is like when people overhype something and then it turns out to be average.

One suggestion is: watch an episode once a week and don’t binge it

Binge 4-5 eps of dialogues is annoying sometimes.

It reminds me of the endless 8 haruhi suzumiya

I think people who experienced the endless 8 can survive anything lol

I watched all 8 eps in one session without even knowing about it

If you don’t know it google it it is the worst thing you can experience as an anime watcher

@UaEfAlCoN83 Who was talking about THIS show? We're talking about Slime. But as I said earlier, with each new comment you only confirm that you are projecting your own opinion about the show onto people's motives along the lines of "I don't think the show was too focused on dialogue, so those who accuse it of this simply hate dialogue" and so on. This is obviously a pointless debate. I'm not saying you're doing this with bad intentions, but I think you should be more accepting of people who view the show differently than you.

Season 2 certainly didn't live up to its prequel, but at least the ending was good. I just hope season 3 will be more similar to season 1 again.

@RobertBobert lol are you kidding me? I stated many times that people can have their own opinions and preferences but you insist that I want to force a specific opinion.

Lol what I joke!

@Gator I think it depends on the number of eps they will produce but mostly likely it will be like season 2

I think they will focus on building the country and expanding their shop. There will be probably some action with that annoying hero.

@UaEfAlCoN83 Yes, I'm not blind. But you also continued to repeat the point that this is “not a show for those who prefer action,” which instantly erased our entire exchange and simply rebooted the argument all over again. That's why I say it doesn't make sense.

@UaEfAlCoN83 Amen for that bro.
No tomo malas decisiones, solo me gusta apoyar causas perdidas.
Disfruté Mayoiga, Ou-sama Game, Evil or Live, Mirai Nikki, Big Order, Arifureta, Ex-Arm, Tesla Note, Shuumatsu no Harem y Platinum End
nope les falle con esa, lo siento pero todos tenemos nuestros límites.
Así de jodido es mi gusto en anime, ¡Y estoy pinche orgulloso de ello!

I liked the first season more than I would've thought, but this 2nd season was barely watchable. Maybe a weird take but I hate when these generic trash shows give too much time to some random characters or when they hype up fights that look like my 5th grade powerpoint animation.
If I wanted to see a fight that lasts 1-2 EPISODES I have much better shows to watch.

Maybe it's just me and people actually liked the heroes and the mediocre fight with sofia.

I'm glad it's getting a season 3 mainly because it gives me hope that we'll finally get a proper physical English-translated light novel release because it's in my Top 5 Isekai web novels. Also I find it ironic that people watching this season complain about slow pace and lore, meanwhile I'm yelling into the screen "SLOW DOWN AND STOP SKIPPING EVERYTHING"

Gotta say, I hope it keeps at least this level of quality in S3. There will be some of my favorite moments, like
...

Too bad they change studio to in S2,

JC Staff is good, but compare original C2C made in S1,

The animation coloring especially with Makoto arrow Flame is 100% better compare to JC staff made
