How long has it been since we've gotten such a good romance anime with no high school bullsh1z, the usual cringey tropes, bland 1-D characters, generic scenery and music? I don't even remember lol. Edit: Apparently Insomniacs after high school is good show, gotta watch it sometimes later I suppose. |

God, for real.. I agree.. Insomniacs After Dark, and Loving Yamada at Lv999 are the only decent romance that have came out recently imo. We had Fruits Basket in 2019. I get so bored of the typical high school banter and drama and awkward blushes. I want some GOOD adult romance for once! Very happy with this one so far! |

Just last season? Unless, you want to discount an entire show just because of the high school setting. |
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that. |

This is personally my favorite romance anime this year so far and the only one I would give a 9/10 rating, most only rate at 8/10 for me. |

Kind of has the “Cinderella” theme mixed with magic and Japan. There are good main male and female characters, plus interesting side characters. I don’t see it talked about much, but this other anime was another similar genre of a girl sent to help and marry the person at their home. I mean, to be completely fair, this is just Cinderela with super powers. It’s not exactly generic for an anime, but it sure as hell is for western standards. It’s like a female’s wet dream combined with a good enough plot to keep the male audience entertained. The author was great enough to combine somewhat of a clear power-fantasy of hers with an actual surprisingly great plot and world-building. I’m also kinda mixed on Mio’s voice acting. At one hand, it’s amazing how well she is able to portray a traumatised and reclusive character. That’s why her voice is so low. That said… Fuck, her voice is TOO low. Even when she WAS supposed to show more emotion, like in her literal happy thoughts, her voice remains annoyingly slow. That kinda hinders pretty much all of the emotional moments. You can’t really feel anything if the characters aren’t feeling it, after all. It’s definitely good. I gave it a solid 8/10. But like, it’s been long since we got a good romance? Really? Bro, the Kaguya-Sama movie made my male ass heart go “kyun” like a 16 years old girl. It’s easily the best romance ever written in the anime industry. Or at least in the past 10 years, since I can’t really attest about older stuff. Point being, it’s not even comparable how great of a romantic story these two are. High school romances aren’t bad by default, the problem is simply that MOST of them are bad lol. This show is very good. But it’s less because it’s an actual amazing story and more because we aren’t used to seeing this kind of story adapted well into anime format. That said, we only got five episodes so far. Nothing is stopping the story from going places in the future lol. |

Insomniacs after school came out and that was great. Dangers in my heart is the best romance this year. Loving Yamada was also good and there are alot more. My Happy Marriage is goated tho. Also if we're talking about a romance anime with good music then Dangers in my heart trumps cuz it's the same guy that did a silent voice music that did it |

World-building is also quite great. So is the plot. But really, please, you can’t seriously be saying the target audience isn’t clearer than the sky. This is a shoujo. Admittedly so. It is a work written by a woman about a classic female fantasy. Like, literally a classic. So much of a classic that it has been around for literal hundreds of years. Not to say men can’t enjoy it. I very much AM enjoying it myself. Doesn’t mean I can’t recognise a clear female fantasy lmao. That’s simply what the show is. A bullied woman who has self-worth issues is suddenly married with a kind perfect man who basically accepts her unconditionally and gives her a life of luxuries? Oh, on top of that, she’s actually really special and comes from a lineage of special people who can control minds. I mean, please. There are well written male fantasies as well. A whole lot of them. Those shows CAN be good. The characters CAN not be literal self-inserts and experience their own growth. That said, we don’t need to delude ourselves into saying these aren’t clear fantasies lol. |

For me personally, when the characters in a romance anime seem and act like any normal member of the society would, that show instantly becomes top tier and this is definitely the case so far with My Happy Marriage. Edit: Also while yes it is mainly targetted on shoujo demographic, I am enjoying the f out of it even though I'm a guy. |

How long? Like last season, with Skip to Loafer. Cringe tropes? Well cringe are different for each person, but white knight fantasy, cool perfect wish fulfillment guy, cartoony evil villain. 1-D characters? Well I already said it. I'm enjoying this btw, it feels like an extended storyline of saving a noble princess in a trashy harem isekai. |

Edit: Also while yes it is mainly targetted on shoujo demographic, I am enjoying the f out of it even though I'm a guy. Normal members of society? Bruh, the protagonist of this anime is a bullied wimp who can’t even accept a hair brush without getting weirdly philosophical about it. Being a woman doesn’t change that. Imagine how people would react if the genders were inverted. People would hate the anime. Point and fact. She’s 100% just the female version of the bullied black haired high school kid. That in a different setting and being, what? Three years older? Pretty sure she’s 19. Is she well written? Yeah, she is. I won’t argue against that. All of her actions make complete sense given her past. That said, that doesn’t change the fact that there’s a lot of real high school kid with communication problems. These characters being like that doesn’t really make them any “less realistic”. All it does is making them annoying. Annoying people are very much real lol. Which is, as we can see here, a behaviour that is just not seeing as annoying if the shy one is a woman. So yeah, if a character without conversational problems is what you’re looking for, then “my happy marriage” 100% isn’t a good example of it. |

Her mother died when she was a kid and her father treated her a like piece of trash. Even though she was a noblewoman, her treatment wasn't any better than a servant of the house, heck even worse. Even if the gender roles were reversed, I would've accepted it tbh, don't know about other people though. And about her not being able to accept a simple comb, all she literally had was a broken comb and a rag-like piece of clothing. Ofc she'd hesitate to accept such a gift from a man who was almost a stranger to her at that time. But in the latest ep we see her being able to accept the new kimono rather easily (even though there was a slight hesitation) because now she trusts him. |

But it’s less because it’s an actual amazing story and more because we aren’t used to seeing this kind of story adapted well into anime format. That said, we only got five episodes so far. Nothing is stopping the story from going places in the future lol. The main male and female characters are very well written, while the side characters are interesting and important to the whole story plot. Also both the main characters draw in the male and female audience. I mean, yeah? A power-fantasy CAN have well written characters. That’s why I gave it a 8/10. It’s by no means bad. Not to say man can’t enjoy it. I very much AM enjoying it myself. Doesn’t mean I can’t recognise and enjoy a clear female fantasy lol. My main problem with high school romances is that often the characters are just straight up dumb. Like wym "I- I ... uhhh. .. I... affdkkebn" What? What??? Just spit it out. We're all waiting. Bruh. |

Bullied wimp? I mean, did you read the rest of my paragraph…? I did say her action are completely understandable. That doesn’t change the fact that she acts like 90% of all male characters in anime. Except she’s a woman Thai tune. Who acts like a wimp. And was bullied. Does it make sense? Yeah. Do I hate it? No, not really. Would everyone else hate it if the genders were reversed? I assure you that yes, people would hate it. Does it change how she basically has no personality? It really doesn’t either. |

Plus, I only went into this tangent because your entire argument was: “I can’t stand wimpy teenagers who can’t express themselves” When the protagonist in question is literally a wimpy teenager who can’t express herself. Except she’s a woman this time. Again, that has no bearing in how well written she is. She’s incredibly well written and all of her actions makes sense. That doesn’t change a simple fact: She ACTS like the average protagonist. Reasons are reasons, and we sympathise with her because we get it. But the result is the same. It’s nothing revolutionary. |

The only good romance this season that’s for sure, but Insomniacs may be my favorite romance ever unless you consider clannad a romance. |

We get a good romance at least once a season. I'm enjoying this show but it's not exactly revolutionary. It's another Cinderella story lol |

I get so bored of the typical high school banter and drama and awkward blushes. I want some GOOD adult romance for once! Very happy with this one so far! I thought the ice guy and his cool female colleague was pretty alright. |

I agree this being a good romance, seeing a more serious romance tone with older cast is refreshing (reminded me of when Golden Time became popular). Like everyone said, Insomniacs After School is also a good one recently. Skip to Loafer is nice as well, but it feels more like Slice of Life. Way2Gay4Me said: A month ago ended Insomniacs before that? just last year we got this gem: https://myanimelist.net/anime/53585/Modern_Love_Tokyo__Kare_ga_Kanaderu_Futari_no_Shirabe Wow, directed by Naoko Yamada, the one behind Koe no Katachi and Liz to Aoi Tori. Thanks for sharing, flew out of my radar last year. Adding to watching list, hope it fits my current romance preferences. |

I read the manga and I really loved it so I’m happy to see that the adaptation is done well. What I thought was interesting is that even though it is a Cinderella story, the “prince” patiently helps her overcome her trauma and build her self esteem. |
