Somewhere I can't remember, I saw a description of this that made me think "Oh, this is exactly what those other otome game isekais should have done, I gotta see this." This part of the description does not seem to be on MAL. Now I'm starting to fear I was just seeing what I wanted to see and misconstrued something else. Which would be a huge letdown, but I'd rather find out now than be disappointed week after week.

In case what I believed to be the basic hook that distinguishes it from others in the genre is actually a spoiler to some degree, I'll go ahead and mark it. Should be a simple "yes" or "no" without need for spoiling anything beyond.

Is this a thing, or did I just want it to be a thing so much my brain invented it? (Or even possibly had it confused with a different series.)

First I havent read the source material. But the premise for the series and its setting, does make it possible for it to happen. Especially since it seems like it doesn't just work on pure memory.

But as said can't confirm or deny, but from the setting. Could what you saw very well be possible.

I can now say form having watched episode 2, that it is a thing that others experience.

It appears that what you read was correct.

E2 spoiler

My guess is it will evolve.

Well that's a relief. I'd been looking forward to this for months for that -one- aspect, and if it had been a figment of my imagination I would have been crushed. Thanks for letting me know.

Honestly, watching it right now and they did it on ep2 but I can tell it won't be a consistent thing at all. Which is a shame. If everyone had memories except, the villainess is a different person; that'd be hella interesting.
