I'll be the third person to mention KareKano here. frequently disastrous production, one episode was mostly done with stick puppets as a cost saving measure, it doesn't really end. Genius show anyway, one of the most influential anime ever, I would argue, with ideas, tropes, entire scenes appearing throughout romance and high school anime. given how high school romance is one of the biggest subgenres now, practically competitive with isekai in audience, its influence cannot be understated. It also cannot be understated how it has almost unwatchable episodes.

I mean yes and no. I think something like Kill la Kill ran with that style and made it fucking phenomenal. Space Patrol Luluco as well. The issue with KareKano is the astounding amount of recap including the 2 episode recap going over the whole story half way through. Like man the series was only 26 episodes. And to be frank I'm not going to acknowledge the episdoes after 18 but it did have interesting ideas just that whole last arc was messy.
