This topic is part of our Computer tricks and customization section:
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=419443

Changing your computer cursor to these, or any cursor you want!

1. Download any of these cursor files from the link provided (updated).
The cursors above are cursor files converted to GIF and PNG. But you need cursor files to change your cursors on PC. You can download the Hatsune Miku cursor files directly from this new location.
https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=4a07c1eeed420167&id=4A07C1EEED420167!107

You should move the cursors you download to a new folder that won't change where you can keep your cursors permanently.

Other cursors, custom cursors
The Miku cursors are samples- there are other cursor files online you can find and use. Just search for CUR files on sites like this.
https://www.cursors-4u.com/

And, you can convert a small image file to a cursor file with this site for a customized cursor!
https://convertio.co/png-cur/

If your image is too big or needs to be cropped, you can size an image down or crop it with a site like EzGif.
https://ezgif.com/resize

Remove anything in the background from the sides with Photoscissors
https://photoscissors.com/

2. Find the part of your computer where you can change cursors.
Before going forward, remember only cursor files work for cursors on Windows, so make sure you are using the cursor files and not normal image files (PNG, JPG, GIF). You can convert the image to a cur file with
https://convertio.co/png-cur/

In Windows 10, go to the start menu on the lower left and choose settings.

Find Devices and Mouse, choose additional options.

Now you can customize your mouse cursor! Your PC actually uses many cursors, and the one to be customized is the one highlighted on this page. First you might want to the normal select cursor on top, which is what you usually see. Choose Browse and find the new custom cursor you downloaded earlier then click Apply.

Your cursor should change, and you can customize the other cursors on your PC! You can change back to the default too with Use Default next to Browse.

Changing your anime/manga list cursor!

I've made a new topic for this:

wow thanks this is one of those rare un-noticed things that I love about MAL.

Is there a possibility of some more icons at any time?

I love the animated ones I couldn't download the others. Perhaps some more animated of miku for the rest of the set would be great.

THANKS!

Is it possible to have non-animated cursor ?
And if that's the case, is the code different ?

These are the best icons I know of. To be honest, I've never seen cursors online that come close, so I don't bother to use any others.

They're are only two, and they should be downloaded when you click them. There are 6 links to cover all browsers since some don't take them in certain formats. The ANI files are the ones for the computer. You can download the originals from Danbooru.com- in fact they have other cursors.

Yes, if the cursor was originally not animated. Plus they only animate in Internet Explorer, as far as I know. IE needs ANI-type files for cursors, but if the ANI cursor had one frame, it wouldn't appear to animate. So you could use another browser.

On the second question: it would use the same code, and I don't know if there is a code to "un-animate" a cursor.

I have modified the code so it covers most lists completely.

Yup! I've been using it for years. Google Miku Cursor, and it should be at the top of the Google search as well! Its #2 , but #1 isn't as good!

I've added the singing Miku cursor to both my lists, however I was just wondering if the cursor makes the page run slower with it there?
I have the cursor on both my lists and whenever I try opening one, it takes so long to load and to go around my list. Is there a way to make it run faster while still having the cursor?
E: I took the cursor out and it made the lists run faster...

You were maybe using Internet Explorer, it looks like they no longer support ANI cursors as of 2012 and IE lags like crazy with a basic custom cursor. So I modified the code for cursors so it took that out. It only works in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox now.

If it was lagging outside of IE then I don't know why it but it probably was only lagging for you cuz I tried your CSS on my list and it lagged only in IE, which is usually does since its a shitty browser, and with and without the cursor it was still loading slow but way slower with the cursor. So just try the new codes in the top post, but you won't see the custom cursor in IE.

Good! Chrome is a nice alternate to IE- better for the most part in fact IE is trying to copy Chrome's look lately. You can use Chrome's extensions to improve your browser too:

I added three more Miku cursors: leakspin, book(?), and kotatsu. They are really good cursors for when your pointer is 'busy' or 'thinking'.

Hey guys, I'd like to give you all a link to a site with some great cursors for your lists.

It's called - http://www.cursors-4u.com/ - You pick your cursor (they have a Anime section with various cursors from various shows as well) and use the "Option #2 - CSS Style Sheet Only Code". You copy and paste this code into your CSS editor and... there it is! Your new cursor.

I hope this helps you guys out.

Thanks for this tutorial, it was really helpful. I added a Touhou / Remilia cursor from this Touhou icon repository http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=9551.0 for my Remilia-themed list. Had to take out the white background myself though in GIMP and save as a PNG to get transparency, and work out how to tweak the cursor's hit location X and Y in the CSS so that her spear became the pointer, though.

Hey no problem, I had something similar happen, and to fix it I did this:

body,a
{
cursor:url(http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n502/reelyanoob/TouhouCursor19_zps83aa62cd.png) 20 45, auto;
}

When I applied the cursor to body, it changed to the "hand" when hovering over links. Adding the ",a" fixed that

@Sautron: It looks like using "position:absolute" (either on body or list_surround) or using "left:XXXpx" on the #list_surround tag both have the effect of causing the custom cursors to not work outside of the #list_surround zone.

EDIT: yup that fixes it, change

#list_surround {
left:365px !important;
position:absolute !important;
}

to
#list_surround {
margin-left:365px !important;
}

BTW your code was a huge mess, so I ran your CSS through an optimizer after fixing the problem. I loaded it on my server, here:

I never used or really heard of an optimizer before. How does it work? It would be nice to clean up some random layouts here!

http://www.codebeautifier.com/

they can just tidy up the indenting, remove white space, and can optionally pack a whole css into a single line for reducing load times, they can recode colors, etc, as the shortest possible string, and can (optionally) delete the final ";" from every selector block. This can all either make reading easier, or speed loading times.

They can optionally merge selectors where they've been declared all over the shop, or sort selectors alphabetically, but you have to be more careful applying those options because they can break sequence-based tricks like the "status_selected + status_not_selected + status_not_selected" trick used to apply images to the menu items.

Those links don't work anymore so you can just go to:

http://www.rw-designer.com/gallery?search=miku+cursors

They have 3 out of the 5 so it's better than nothing. I just can't find the kotatsu and the book one T_T

I've updated this topic with a new link to the Vocaloid cursors. Also, the topic was made when I used Windows XP, but basically the same concept applies to Windows 7. Not sure about Windows 8 but maybe I'll look into it later
