| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- The first 17 minutes of this episode were exclusively character interactions and they were all incredibly enjoyable. You can see Tomino's vision come through in how he puts life into the characters, including lines that might come off as dubious writting to some, like that random compliment towards the commander's hair. Hime and Yuu in particular shared two very good scenes, the one in the relative dark being my favorite, even considering the strangely mundane place to cut the conversation when Yuu agrees with Hime that his grandmother is too old to go to Orphan and give a slap to her daughter for good measure. Kanan finding more comfort and trust in her new position keeps impressing me with what I originally expected from her character. And despite the general interactions with the Brain Powerds still being awkward at times the main themes and essence of the show certainly starts leaking through. So far too much of a "feels good" show with quotidian Tomino presentation despite all the "Evangelion ripoff" nonsense being spread around. |
