Is this really a hentai?

It’s tagged as hentai but it just seems very ecchi to me. It shows breasts and implied sex but it doesn’t show genitals. So how is it a hentai exactly? Stuff like yosuga no sora and shield hero are just as borderline but they’re still not classed as hentai so why is this classed as hentai?

Tbf Yosuga no sora should be classified hentai
But depend where they got released, what target they aim for i guess

well yosuga no sora never shows genitals and was able to air on TV. Hentai is more graphic.

Showing genitals shouldn't be what define an hentai tho
Numerous sex scenes should, after all they're not just erotic scenes like you can see in The Witcher for example
They're pretty explicit porn, not showing genitals is only another way to censor it

Alot of people use that argument about Redo of healer aswell but it's pointless

You would have to call Dragon ball an hentai then, cause you can see Goku's genitals in it

I can see what you're saying but hentai is very rarely in the genre tags if it doesn't show genitals. If it's actual hentai, it wouldn't even be allowed to air on TV. And yes DB does show them but only with a very young boy & it doesn't show them in a sex scene.

Urotsukidouji doesn't show genetics though does it? I watched it & it didn't have them. Are there two versions of it or something?

Yes, far more than two even. Hardly any anime has been crippled more by cutters. Here's a well researched overview: https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=164559

All cuts except the US cinematic version are rated Rx = porn. The movie lacks over half an hour, just to make clear how much material was removed to make it R+, which still means restricted to adults. This cut is a blessing in disguise, actually. Sex scenes are often boring, and I tend to like the movie cut better for it's tighter pacing.

It is hentai as it has graphic sex scenes and is the first hentai to popularize tentacles/ tentacle rape.
And the series responsible for popularizing the misconception of anime being nothing but tentacle porn in the 90s/ early 00s.
Technically it is less erotic than its source material and the director went full on on the horror and rape aspect... and I can't help but view it more as a horror than a title to get you off.
