 The official Twitter for Production I.G.'s anime adaptation of Junji Ito's horror manga Uzumaki (Uzumaki: Spiral into Horror) revealed the full cast for the miniseries' first episode on Wednesday. The adaptation will have four episodes and premiere on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block later this year. Cast Kirie Goshima: Uki Satake (Mob Psycho 100) Shuichi Saito: Shinichiro Miki (Hakuouki) Yasuo Goshima (Kirie's Father): Toshio Furukawa (Dragon Ball Z) Toshio Saito (Shuichi's Father): Takashi Matsuyama (Haikyuu!!: To the Top) Yukie Saito (Shuichi's Mother): Mika Doi (Mushishi) Azami Kurotami: Mariya Ise (Kakegurui) Katayama: Katsutoshi Matsuzaki (Aku no Hana) Okada: Wataru Hatano (Dance with Devils) Tsumura: Tatsumaru Tachibana (The God of High School) Yokota: Kouichi Toochika (ef: A Tale of Memories.) Shiho: Ami Fukushima (Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san. (TV)) Boy 1: Gen Satou (Dr. Stone) Boy 2: Shunsuke Takeuchi (Ling Qi) Girl: Anna Nagase Attendee 1: Kousuke Okamoto (Dorohedoro) Uzumaki will be directed by Hiroshi Nagahama (Aku no Hana, Mushishi), and multi-instrumentalist and composer Colin Stetson (Color Out of Space, Hereditary) is in charge of the score. The manga was serialized in Big Comic Spirits from 1998 to 1999, eventually compiling into three individual volumes and receiving two omnibus releases from Shogakukan in 2000 and 2010. It has been published in at least nine foreign languages including English, running in VIZ Media's Pulp magazine from 2001 to 2002. Three individual volumes were released during the same two years and it has since received multiple reprints, most recently in the form of a hardcover omnibus in 2013. | I'm actually anticipating for it to be released and excited to see how they will adapt it since Itou Junji's works are really hard to adapt into anime for various reasons. | The anime adaptation for Uzumaki is slated for a 2021 release. I guess Covid-19 caused the production to be delayed because it was supposed to come out this year. |
