A great idea-
An ongoing long haiku!
Let’s start it in games. =D

@TwilightCelica
Happy you think so!

Introduce yourself. ;)

Lol imagine sinking so low as to making fun of people who are just having fun on an anime forum. A haiku is a form of poetry which is a very popular form of art outside of anime or even japanese culture. Not like anyone expected you to know that.

The irony reeks. Rejoice all you want, but it's hard to take you seriously from all the way down there.

@citycat
glad it seemed to work—
sometimes, spite can be useful
—I'm very petty

that out of the way—
another game of haikus
I would sometimes 'play'

involving music,
making haikus with titles
here, as examples:

father's dreamtwo paths
morning doubt in lovers eyes
open doorsdon't leave
yes, I am a fan of Loren Connors' work, how could you tell?
child, here in the night
and the shadows on the wall
whispers, woven dreams
I didn't set out to use only his compositions, but it worked out cohesively, somehow
admittedly, it
can be quite a difficult
game to try and play

I took the liberty to add poems in languages other than English because I wrote them first in another language. I propose a translation (respecting the feet) after. Great thread you created @citycat (I'll write your eulogy later on). How can some people complain about people writings poems?

Languages

English haiku seem
Harder than Japanese ones.
A broken rhythm.

Prosody

Japanese haiku.
In Florence, eleven feet.
French alexandrine.

Inspired by Proust's Albertine

If I work harder,
I will not wonder about
Happiness and pain.

Inspired by Chamfort

You need to act more,
Quit observing you living,
Think with great restraint.

(Original: "Il faut agir davantage, penser moins, et ne pas se regarder vivre.")

French haiku

Le haiku Français
Est trop court pour le beau vers;
Essayons pourtant.

Writing French haiku?
Beauty needs space to be born,
Let's try however.

From Nietzche's "Die fröhliche Wissenschaft" I

Une idée complexe
S'appréhende par les sens.
Nietzsche l'a bien dit.

A complex idea
Is better grasped by senses.
Nietzsche said it well.

From Nietzche's "Die fröhliche Wissenschaft", II

Savoirs déjà connus,
Matière inerte au doux rêve,
Apprends-les pourtant.

Knowledge from the past
Is no material to dream.
Learn it anyway.

From Nietzche's "Die fröhliche Wissenschaft", III and Grothendieck's "Récoltes et Semailles"

Grothendieck l'a dit :
Du savoir, nulle érection,
De la recherche, si.

Grothendieck said it:
From knowledge, no erection.
From research, might be.

Japanese haiku

和歌思い
俳句で示せば
許されず

Waka omoi
Haiku de shimeseba
Yurusarezu

Thoughts about waka?
I write them in a haiku;
Unforgivable.

Gratitude, from Boileau

He sees a weak verse,
He will not tolerate it:
He is a true friend.

Martial art principle

One thousand poems,
Polish them day after day,
May the style emerge.

Early morning I

Run and meditation,
Philosophers fancy walk,
My mind needs more speed.

Early morning II

Running before dawn,
Avoiding the plague victims,
Losing human faith.

Early morning III

When this is over,
Misanthropy will be dead,
What about friendship?

Early morning IV

Banal loneliness,
Everyone imprisoned,
A tasteless feeling.

Horizons may shrink,
Accidents may push to brink,
There is light at end

Hope's a pretty word
Prettier if you have it
If you just believe

Worry not, my friend
The end has not yet arrived

Vers libres

Reading some pieces
Forged a century ago;
Do they hate to count?

Enjambement

Within seventeen
Feet the thought shall crystallize
And surpass free verse.

Now

Time is drawing out,
Will is gently declining,
Am I still thinking?

Maupertuis par Chamfort

Yawning on a chair:
"I'd like to solve a problem
Both fine and easy."

Eternal return

No! No more complaints!
Days will return endlessly,
Use your time wisely!

Reality

I was a fool, lost
So far from enthusiasm
In the realm of dreams.

Contre Schopenhauer

The World is no Will,
Super-ego suffices
To get me to work.

Raison de vivre

Light-hearted again,
I remembered that atoms
Of thoughts make ideas.

Eulogy, @Lolsebca, @AlexPaulLEWZ, @onchyophoran

Some laughs, many thoughts,
Lolsebca, Alex, On-ran,
Poetry is there.

Cherry @Lolsebca

This cherry reminds
Me of the fly in The Words;
Should it stay alive?

Always ignorant
Of our vile thoughts of power,
Of us, of our strength.

To the Editor of this soon-to-become haiku/senryuu anthology @citycat

Thank you for your praise;
The time you spent writing it
Means more than verses.

What a strange idea!
Poetry here? Not drawings?
This place feels at home.

"Not encouraging
Discussion." I fear the blade
Of moderation.

Let's put fear aside.
What led you to create this
Thread so full of hope?

Quarantine is dull,
Online socializing is
Quite amusing, right?

I feel just that way
Feeling pretty blue and glum
I am over this.

You make some good points
It's not all sunshine waiting
Dark clouds are ahead.

Some think we'll bounce back
The economy intact
Such optimism...
=X

@cells
Thank you so much, cells
I hope you're well and healthy
I'm just a touch blue.

As weather improves
I'm sad to be stuck inside
I miss patios.

It's not the same thing
Patio bars with my friends
Chilling in own yard.

I don't live up to your words
I'm just a sourpuss.

I may have started
this thread on a whim one day
But you have changed it

Your poems elevate
everything about this thread
I take no credit.

I haven't had time
to really enjoy this time
Work has been busy.

Life is harder now
Responsibilities stay
Difficult to fill.

Even groceries
Sometimes the shelves are empty
Endless lineups, too.

It matters not that
Ambitions are met, for when
Faced with death, must rest..

But I refuse, please
I, Discombobulated
Who to confide with?

Parting words are not
Something to anticipate
So does suffering

Messages were sent
Farewell, invisible friends
I bear no regrets.
