Throughout the years I've enjoyed myself going free roam avoiding missions cause I get to try out different stunts and what not, some missions are alright.

Free roaming for sure. I don't think I ever done a mission in GTA to be honest, besides mandatory tutorial missions.

I just loves stealing cars, bike and murdering people. Running away from cops and blowing massacre police if I need to and blow up their cars.

It's been always like that for me since first GTA game (San Andreas) I played all the way up to GTA V.

It just never gets old. If only I could do this in real life without getting any legal trouble... Now, that would be cool.

Freeroam online is a catastrophic disaster.

mk2 no brain mains
orbital cannon'd to the moon by abusers
kids that shouldn't be playing the game
mod menu losers that grief by trapping you in a cage and setting you on fire (requires game restart)

The GTA series is usually a free-roaming thing for me. Even though I've beaten all the 3D ones (aside from 4), I find doing missions in the GTA games rather tiring, and at times outright boring. But just free-roaming, causing a bunch of chaos, that's always a good time regardless for me.

Only played the old ones up to San Andreas, but free-roaming was always the best part for me in GTA. Making the biggest chain explosions happen and stacking highways with car wreckages was the most fun activity.

Free roaming in GTA V is boring as fuck. I blame it on the map being so damn bland. The missions aren't that good either, but at least something happens there.

While I would normally say free roam later in the game of GTA SA, when all the areas are opened up, there is a sort of thrill starting a new game and making it your goal to make it to Area 69 and break in right off the bat.

Free-roaming is fun in GTA but games like GTA San Andreas don't allow you to roam everywhere till you complete the story (you'll even unlock more features) and some of the missions are enjoying and should make you feel like a batman.

Pre HD era: Free-roaming.
Post HD era: Missions, though my favorite part of V is just doing the night races a Franklin; almost as if Rockstar should make another Midnight Club or at least remaster Midnight Club LA for all current consoles and PC.

But really, I prefer Saints Row these days. I'm tied between 2 and 3 as the best one.

Always doing the missions. I might just free roam and do some stupid stuff from time to time when I'm heading towards a certain destination though.

I don't really play GTA V... But I do play GTA 3-logy (III, Vice City, and San Andreas) and GTA IV...

I usually do missions first in my first playthrough. But after I completed them, I go free-roams or side missions. Sometimes modding stuffs + free roams, good ol' times.

Hahaha, nice screensaver for the video)) I'm also playing the GTA 5, and first of all what I've done after I installed the game, I've started to pass the mission. I consider it the most interesting thing in a game and it is really spectacular for me because I have millions of emotions during that) I forget that it's just a game. I've decided to play on the mobile phone from gta5mobile.club from https://gta5mobile.club because I don't have Xbox or PS and I can strongly say that playing on a big smartphone is also nice and comfortable.

Missions.
Vice City probably has the best ones but in general free roaming bores me, particularly in GTA 4 and 5 where the weapons are quite hard to find in the wild.

When i used to play Liberty city and Vice city as a kid I did a lot of free roaming..stealing and going berserk with trainers..

Though since San Andreas and then Gta 4 I have mainly focused on the missions..unless I go on a killing spree after someone dashes my favorite car..

I usually save roaming for after I finished the game, but sometimes you just need to have a little fun inbetween. But games like San Andreas and V have long enough routes and fun side missions that I don't feel like messing around with the game.

If there was actually more to interact with in GTA I wouldn't mind roaming. Problem is there are few shops, few stocks and fewer reasons to explore for me.
So I just use a general walkthrough to see all the bits that need seeing.
From time to time I would want to drive fast so I would steal a fast car and just race round the island on the oncoming lane as if it was burnout.
It needs more missions and side interactions.
The strangers and the random encounters are great buy few.
for a game about robbing and heists, there are few heists. Not to mention few shops you can hold up.
Not to mention a lack of banks for individual heists that aren't story related.

The funny thing is in the Witcher 3 I was so worried I would miss out on side missions and encounters I focused on finding them first before doing the main story, but than again its a fantasy world with new things to see compared to a Modern day city.

missions are always great since you feel progression, and free roam is fun until...well, until it becomes boring.
I love watching free roam gameplay particularly; this is one of my favourites as it's hilarious but gets very melodramatic eventually:

edit:it hasn't aged well xD first watched it years ago but now it's a bit cringe worthy so just ignore (;^ω^)I think I just liked the Brit accent and references to Shaun of the dead lmao
