The afterword from Tsutomu Takahashi is a gut punch and a half.

I just read the afterword now, and dang, I understand why you feel that way... I like how he still meets up with his old friends and they nitpick their parts haha...

Incredible manga. Had no idea that it was based on the authors youth until the afterword. Severely underrated work.

Goodbye Bakuon Rettou, it was a great journey, as much as I had a huge expectation going into it and I kept praising it through my chapter discussions, I will say it didn't resonate with me as much as I made it seem, don't get me wrong, I stand by all the praise I've given and this is unquestionably an excellent manga filled with meaningful messages and powerful character development, which is all the more enriched by the afterword the author gives, confirming most of this story was based off his real life, a fact I was aware of before, which is one of the reasons behind my hype for it, but my previous assumptions aside, I was left extremely satisfied by everything presented in this work and I do think it should be more known and appreciated, because as much as it didn't stick with me, what's here has potential to resonate with so many people I know and beyond, it is truly great. And about thew chapter, this might just be my favorite of the entire series, or at least this final stretch is truly one of the best I've read in manga, at least in recent memory, the whole closure we get for Takashi and his way of life is truly incredible, with him passing his bike, his delinquent will, to a new "good for nothing"and experiencing hard labor for the first time, you can see this entire experience was the nail in the coffin for him to get the mindset needed to take the next step on his life and move forward.
