Only 500k? I make that much in 7 months πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Honestly I find it hard to believe that, no job pays that much

You can only earn that if you have your own business which is well know around the whole world

Nope. As a matter of principle, I'd never permanently prevent myself from doing something I enjoy just for monetary gain, regardless of the amount of money. It's not like anime is my only hobby or anything, but it's something I really enjoy from the bottom of my heart, and giving that up would mean failing to stay true to myself. Everybody has their own circumstances though, and not everyone feels the same way about anime as I do, so I could understand other people taking the offer.

Absolutely. I love anime, it's my favorite hobby, but my family and I need money in a bad way and I would absolutely take the trade.

Uhh money for me is means to enjoy my hobbies, so that deal seems totally pointless for me.

A small sacrifice for such a big fortune? Definitely. I can stick to Manga if I'm bored.

How would he check, anyway?

Is he a god who is omniscient? Then 500k is pretty ridiculous. If he offered me a private universe of my own to play in, then we'd be talking.

Or is he a crazy rich dude who wants to conduct a psychological experiment, implanting a device in my skull which sends a signal to the bank, removing the 500k from my account, as soon as I watch anime? Then, lol no.

Anime and videogames are the two things I genuinely enjoy in this world, not counting eating delicious foods (everyone enjoys that).

They're more than mere hobbies for me, they're a life style, a life choice.

No way I could give up either of them. The worth of struggling through life would drop by at least a third if I did that.

With that said, 500k is not nearly enough. You'd have to offer me money for a life time and a half for me to even consider making the deal.

Being bored the rest of my life and having to pay even more taxes is not worth that, not to mention it's essentially rendering my entire wall of anime DVDs and BDs useless (which probably cost me at least 100,000 already over the last 20 years). Make it 500 Mil and I might consider it though. Although, honestly I'd probably say no, since someone giving away huge chunks of money is SUPER suspicious and most likely a con artist or from a criminal organization with ulterior motives.

I'd say yes, take the money, then continue watching anime.
If he comes after me, I'll used the money to hire body guards.

Easy. I'm more into manga and books in general anyway. I'm not going to lie and say I wouldn't be a little sad but I need money more than entertainment.

It only happens when you're a child of a multimillionaire and are addicted to anime. Yes I would take it I'll just shift to games, movies or other entertainment and investment

No. There's too much anime to fill my life that a measly 500K wouldn't even come close to fulfilling that.

Sounds like the perfect recipe for existential boredom; take away a main hobby and give me enough money to survive for the next 10 years easily?

Pshhhh

If I said yes, though, at least I could go back to reading.

fuck nah, that would mean that I learned Japanese for nothing (jk). I probably wouldn't give up any of my hobbies for money though, a hobby distracts from the stresses of the world, most would burn through the money like nothing leaving them in the same stated that they started, but with one less way of easing the stresses that come with waking everyday into the existential nightmare we call reality. What would that money buy you? Why do you want money in the first place? For what objective does such a sum of money even inspire anything but a sense of surrender to the fact that the world hasn't valued you enough to bestow that level of wealth on you in the first place? I say that the best of us will succeed not through such routes as smarts or spontaneous wealth, but through the sweat of our brow and the hard work that we put into bettering ourselves.

No...watching anime is a learning experience for me. There are things that a story can teach you or get you to think about that you wouldn't have otherwise delved into on your own. $500k USD is a nice chunk of cash...but in the grand scheme of things, it won't be enough for a young person to live the rest of their life on. You'd still have to work and if you wanted to do grand things with that money, it wouldn't last at all. It'll take a person of tremendous discipline to live the rest of their life off with just $500k...and even if one decides to continue to work on top of having the $500k disposable income, there is an entire world of entertainment closed off from you. I guess, if anime wasn't something you really consume on a regular basis, then it'd be no big deal to take this offer. I wouldn't want to take the deal, b/c there are masterful works of art produced that can only be seen in your lifetime....to know that you COULD HAVE seen something awesome that everyone is talking about and not being able to hang with them on the topic is disheartening. There are certain things that require your attention in order to understand and feel what was presented. Some things really are priceless.

Recently I came across a post in reddit where this guy talks about how anime means so much to him and that it is an integral part of his life. Another comment said that watching anime is the only way he can feel emotions and how he is emotionally withdrawn from the real world (possibly due to trust issues ). Makes me wonder how many people are rather passionate about watching japanese cartoons and see it more than just a way to kill time. So what about you, if someone came and offered you 500k to quit anime would you do it ?

make it 10 times bigger and i will take it

Do you know how many good games come from Japan?

I don't see why you would even ask that lol, of course I do. Western* video games is what I meant.

I'm just trying to determine what OP really means since he keeps adding in other things besides anime. If he's saying 500k to have no hobbies the rest of your life, I would say no. To stop with any Japanese media, it would be really hard but 500k is a lot, I would probably do it.

so anything japanese is banned huh? even history book? classic literature? so i need to change my nationality and move to another country too? XD. but, make it 10 times bigger and i will take it

Of course. I prob would never earn that amount of money. Earning money itself + paying your daily expenses, etc. is hard and tiring
