W-Why the fuck is a fish making me cry...

That is empathy, my friend :)

No, it's more than that, it's the realization of mortality and the ephemerality of life

At this point the sudden hype and even more sudden irrelevancy of this anime are beginning to make sense (beyond the OP memes of course). It's incredibly basal. The direction makes the most out of a clearly low-budget production to deliver babby's first existential journey. The themes are barely explored and aren't presented in ways that readily evoke more than a single thought regarding them. Even in this thread, despite most of the comments saying "it's sooo deep!", there's nearly no elaboration beyond regurgitating what they just saw on-screen. There's more people whining about the barbie-doll anatomy or debating the anime's overall color palette than there are exploring the supposedly-deep theme of this episode of supposedly-deep anime. It's not a horrible anime by any means, but both within and without its niche I can think of titles that do it better.

This show continues to bring about messages and ideas while still maintaining it's Slice of Life feel. This feels like a show you would show a kid as it sets in some curiosities about life, morals, and existence. Not to say I'm not enjoying it myself but it does spoon feed it's messages to the viewer.

Excellent episode, the robots really seemed to be alive. It was a difficult decision indeed, but in the end Chi decided to save that fishhy.

I cried over a repair machine, and also when that small maintenance machine said that they will all die one day. I know it's an inevitable process and the circle of life, but it still made me very emotional. I love these series so much, but I know I should start mentally preparing for the ending...

Do you think humanity will come to an end very soon?

I really liked that episode. The whole thing with the robots and the fish was interesting. Sad in a way. There is so little life left in the world, and it is all worth preserving. Taking the life of the machine to save the life of the fish. Is it right to do? It is interesting. I like this show a lot.

Such a gorgeous episode. You know an episode is good when it can get you to empathize with a glorified bulldozer and a fish. I love the feeling of acceptance in this show. The idea of "the end" is constantly returning and while it's difficult and scary the girls and most of the other characters we've seen seem totally at peace with the idea of it. This show is thematically incredibly strong, while also being gorgeously atmospheric, and very comedic. It's such a complete package.

Something is sentient if it can move and think on its own. Something is human-like if it's able to express empathy. Something is alive if it's capable of dying. Evolution will continue as long as the process of destruction and reconstruction persists. At the end of it all, the true end of humanity is not just destruction, but a stagnation leading to an eventual barren metropolitan wasteland.

What an episode. It's overloaded with heavy themes, but still manages to address so much without becoming overburdened. Holy crap.

Well thats one fish that could have been fried. These feelings are pointless in a era of desolation.

Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.

Finding good in a bad situation, the fish was doom to die it was hopeless but they give it a few more minutes to live. What made it good.

Can't stop feeling touched by this episode. It so cute how Yuu starts having empathy for the poor fish and saving him at the end, instead of eating him.

You know it's a banger episode when there is no OP.

Didn't expect to hear Yuuki Kaji as a Machine.

Love all the talk about life, evolution and empathy.

I doubt there was much point in "saving" the fish; it has absolutely nothing to eat in that empty tank, and will be dead in a week or two. Destroying an autonomous construction robot (something with actual utility in a post-apocalyptic setting) for its sake is inane.
