| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- The Shepherdess and the Black Knight Chapter 3: This chapter has everything I love and hate about Isuna Hasekura's writing. The character interactions are impressive, and they way things are described are extremely well done. The problem is that the author can't create solid plot lines and struggles at writing endings. The main crisis in the story wasn't revealed until the last chapter, and this novella doesn't even have the decency to show how it ends. The afterward gave some very interesting insight into the writing of this story. It turns out that Norah is such a simple and hapless character that Hasekura just couldn't make the story work. He turned to Enek in desperation, and I must say Hasekura did a good job because Enek was legitimately funny. Despite its flaws, I really enjoyed Vol. 13. I'm glad to see that the quality of the work has increased compared to middle volumes of the series. I feel the main reason is that Hasekura developed a definitive ending to the story by this point in his writing so the volumes have become much tighter. Its also intersting to see that this volume came out near the ending of the second season of the anime. |
