I waited and waited and waited, since I'm older now and don't really play video games like I used to (and when I do it's mostly PC)... I finally broke down and said fuck it though. I got Uncharted 4, the Ratchet and Clank reboot, and The Last of Us remastered (because that game was fucking awesome).

I basically got it to play Mass Effect Andromeda, Uncharted 4, The Last of Us part 2 and the Final Fantasy 7 remake that probably wont come out for 5 years...

Anybody have some good console game recommendations? The last RPG I played was Ni No Kuni I believe and I heard a second one is actually coming out at some point this coming year.

Also, a co-worker of mine is lending me FFXV, so we'll see how that goes.

knack is fun and cheap
i am setsuna is good
if you can find it cheap, the order 1886 is an ok game showcasing what happens when you decide to put cinematic elements above gameplay
bloodborne obviously
last guardian

Oh maybe, maybe it's the clothes we wear
The tasteless bracelets and the dye in our hair
Or maybe, maybe it's our nowhere towns or our nothing places
But we're trash, you and me
We're the litter on the breeze
We're the lovers on the streets
Just trash, me and you
It's in everything we do
It's in everything we do

Did you get a standard PS4, or a PS4 Pro?

Wait, what? The PS4 Pro is the more powerful one, which is also a bit more expensive. It makes sense to get a Pro, especially if you don't already have a PS4, because it works a little better with the PS VR headset.

Don't have a PS4, but these are the games I'm looking at to possibly warrant a purchase in the future.

Bloodborne
The Last Guardian
Uncharted 4
The Last of Us (Never played the PS3 version.)
God of War III (Never played the PS3 version.)
Ratchet & Clank (2016)
Until Dawn
Horizon: Zero Dawn
The Last of Us Part II
Death Stranding
Little Big Planet 3
Journey (Never played the PS3 version.)
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (Never played the PS1 versions.)

I would get a Pro because some games run better on it. The Last Guardian struggles more on the regular 4.

I'm in the same boat, I play far less than I used to, and I was kind of worried gaming wouldn't get good again as an Xbox fan last-gen, so gave up. Then I saw all of the exclusives coming out for PS4. Picked up a PS4-Pro last month with Final Fantasy XV and The Last of Us Remastered.

If you're into FF, FFXV is a good game, not great though. There's hardly any dialogue or lore in cutscenes, infact there's only 3 CG cutscenes in the entire game. There's obvious missing potential in the story as well. But what it does have, is good. I'd recommend buying used if possible and not buying DLC personally(I bought mine at launch and am kind of regretting it now).

That said Kingdom Hearts 2.8 is coming out in a month, the prequel to Kingdom Hearts 3, and there's tons of other games to look forward to:

Trails of Cold Steel 3(Still need to play 1+2)
God of War
The Last of Us Part II
Spiderman
Death Stranding
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Kingdom Hearts III
Ni no Kuni II
Persona 5 I hear will be good
Star Wars games in 2017-2018

But as of now I'm in the same boat. No idea what to buy in the meantime. Anyone who's seen my list and know my taste know what I should buy?

Until Dawn was a good choice based horror game, would recommend.

Seems that you have the same taste as me, and did pretty much the exact same thing. I miss old school RPGs.

I'm 27 now, so I was a kid when I played the hell out of FF7 and it set a bar with me of what games should be. I played Link to the Past, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore and all of those SNES games with my Grandparents as as kid. Needless to say, I have a huge soft spot for old RPG games.

The games now seem to focus more on shit story that focuses on appealing to Japanese otaku people. Girly dude characters who look like heterosexuals, no developed story at all... The Final Fantasy franchise has done nothing but disappoint me since 9 (i liked 10 though, sorta).

My friend who is spot on about this and on my page said this verbatim about the new final fantasy...

"Story sucked. Main characters cool. Dialogue awkward and cheesy at times. Combat and gameplay awesome

Second half of game linear and boring

Villain, main girl and other major characters not given enough exposition or development"

A friend of mine called me the other day and told me to get that game and he said that he thought he saved some guy and then chose to blow the building up at the end any killed everyone. Epic.

You have to blow up the building at the end, it's just how you do it affects who gets out.

There is no way that you can possibly say that without being semi-elitist.

Final Fantasy 7 was childhood for people like me.

It was a love story, it was a friendship and loyalty story, it was badass, and it had great scenery artwork.

You can do the older is better thing, and I get it. Secret of Mana is one of my all time favorites and nobody gets it, but it's personal.

It's all about what you relate to, and I love the fact that i'm in my late 20's thinking back on how much we sat around after school playing the shit out of FF7 on our parent's floor after school and loving life.

FF7 and Diablo II will always have a place in my heart

Those same kids that sat on my parents floor in front of our shitty TV are still my friends now.

Yeah, you see I don't put nostalgic stock when assessing things. I have no childhood connection to any FF games. I mean, I love stuff from when I was a kid, but I can recognise when something was shit. Especially with music.
