I don't know where this falls under but please look at the forum discussion for this series: http://myanimelist.net/anime/33255/Saiki_Kusuo_no_%CE%A8-nan_TV/forum

As of now, there are threads created with each short that's aired every day, but an actual episode consists of 5 shorts.

Refer to my post here: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1529636&show=50#msg46870184
My source for this was the official website here: http://www.saikikusuo.com/story/

As you can see from the official website each entire week is treated as one episode. The shorts have their numbers restart every week so in fact there has been no such thing as an "episode 6" or further.

I'd like to ask the mods in charge to consider the threads be renamed something like "Episode 1 of 1x" "Episode 2 of 1x" and that there be separate threads "Episode 1x" for full episode discussions. As of now there's no possible way to discuss a full episode beyond 1, for those who are only watching the full version once a week (I am sure there are a handful out there).

Though when taking into account the episode count for the series it is also going to be confusing as people are marking episodes by shorts. Perhaps a cleaner solution may be to split the show into 2 separate listings.

Side note: Some other user posted that funimation stated 24 episodes / 85 specials.

It should definitely be counted as 24 episodes if it is staying as a single listing.

Sorry to reply to my own thread. I did want to let this die since it has gone on for too long but I saw the episode count update upwards and it has increased my annoyance with this issue. I don't know why it got absolutely ignored despite being completely legit with sufficient sources to back it up.

Anyway just to add again even the BD/DVD release says it will include "6 episodes." Not 30.

It is the way right now it is because the shorts are the way it was released first. That's why the anime remains with 120 episodes instead of 24.

How it is released on DVD is not important.

Another good example that comes into my mind is Alice SOS
On TV it has aired 28 episodes with each 20 minutes. On the DVD that was released later, it got merged into 14 episodes with 30 minutes each. The same case it is with Saiki. I hope that answers your question.
Trying to watch all available anime series so you won't have to anymore, the list of anime I can recommend is still in progress, tho

Uh so what you are saying is that the official episode count means nothing too? It is not just the DVD but it's been stated since the start that each 5 shorts are part of one episode; and it's listed by full episodes on everywhere official. They've also aired by full episode on TV since the start and now they're removing the shorts.

I think the main reason is there are many episode discussion forums right now (since it was aired as shorts and then aired them as one full episode one week later) so either it takes time to reorganize them now (merge them and change the titles) or it would make confusion if it says 24 episodes now.
