SotC and ICO aren't underrated, by now they seem to be pretty well known among those who know to appreciate such beautiful games. And they received, as far as I know, overall good critics.

Oh, I'll join in the Dungeon Keeper and Beyond Good and Evil love.

In the sad "liked by critics but sold like poo" category, I recently finished playing Okami and Eternal Darkness, both of which were fantastic but will probably never see sequels (DS doesn't count for me, boo).

Seriously speaking though, the Disciples games by StrategyFirst on PC were awesome and sucks that they got overlooked by many gamers. :P

Final Fantasy IX - my favorite game of all time and prolly one of the most hated and downrated Final Fantasy games of all time. Seems the change in direction from cyberpunk fantasy to steampunk fantasy wasn't liked by alot of people.

Okami - one of the best games of last gen. Sadly it didn't appeal to lots of people which made studio clover go bankrupt. Really a sad thing as Okami was one of the most original games of last gen with a special story and great new game mechanics.

Basically, the fandom was taken by Final Fantasy VII cancer who didn't get Final Fantasy to begin with. With IX they went back to what made it good for the first time in years.
They never should have changed directions toward Cyberpunk to begin with.

I'll be unoriginal to start with and mention Okami.

Then there's also other games which it seems nobody even noticed, like Battlezone, Incoming, Heretic and Primal.

Strangely enough I was trying to find out what game I played ages ago when the PS2 was released, found out it was Shadow of Memories and then read this today and see it in here. Damn coincidences.

Totally agree. That and FFVII are my 2nd favourite FF (can't decide which, both behind VIII though)

That game induces nightmares.

A series that definitely doesn't get enough love is the Tales of series. Its depressing to see that it goes under the radar in the US when a new one is released. The only one that I know has a lot of recognition here is Symphonia.

Monster raising and lack of love for the original cast is what kills the interest in the game for me.

I'd say Breath of Fire IV, undoubtedly for me. Only that, I can't say that it's exactly underrated, because it's not that the overall quality of the game is not recognized, moreover the story, cast, plot, and well, all and everything got to do with the construction of the main theme and storyline. Beautiful characters and scenery, if only the in-game's graphics were enhanced.

I'm probably pulling the trigger too soon in saying; I don't think many have actually played this game, and with that said, it makes it underrated in it's quality of popularity.

I actually really loved Super Mario Sunshine, at least they were trying something a little bit different with Mario, and I actually thought that it worked. It would definitely have to be one of my favourite games but a lot of people just forgot about it. And c'mon, how cool was having a jetpack propelled by water?

How is this underrated in any way? Almost every critic loves it and it is on all kinds of top lists. I myself own and love it as well... but i don't think this is underrated...

As for me I would have to go with Dragon Warrior Monsters, which, now that i look at it, got stunningly mediocre reviews.

Okami: Best game ever that no one bought.

Armored Core: I can understand this though, Not everyone enjoys tweaking the balance of their mech and finding it's sweet spot in it's center of gravity......BUT THEY SHOULD!

Here are some games which I consider to be underrated:

Shinobi (PS2)- Sure, its not a very faithful remake to the Sega classics, but its still a damn fun and challenging game at its core, IMO.

Power Stone 2 (SDC)- It takes everything great from the 1st game and improves on all of it. If the series had continued with some sequels, I'd say that it'd be a worthy rival to the famous Super Smash Bros. series, especially since it has its own twist by allowing you to brawl on a 3D plane rather than just a 2D one.

Jet Grind Radio (SDC) and Jet Set Radio Future (XBOX)- There is a certain weird-ness and obscure quality to these games, but one thing is for sure: They are both fun as hell. Its a shame that we couldn't ever get another sequel in this series. =(

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (NDS)- Its a pretty fun and unique Nintendo DS game. Its a shame that it didn't sell better, but I suppose that's probably most people this generation who don't own an XBOX360 don't care about Ninja Gaiden (going by its signficiantly lower sales on the NDS and PS3) unless its the NES classics which are available on the Wii Virtual Console.

There are some other games that I consider to be underrated, but I might just post them up later.

Really? I didn't think AC4 was underrated. Looked at the reviews just now and was shocked to find out critics were of mixed opinion. It's downright awesome, probably on my top 5 PS3 games.

Also, Valkyria Chronicles. Not too many people I know who play know this game. But again another masterpiece. Within my top 3, easy.
