Arguing is a waste of energy. Fruitful discussion, however, has its merits. While there's never been an instance where someone has completely changed my mind on a subject matter online, lending my ear to different perspectives lets me take a more holistic approach to the subject later on in my own time. I had a lengthy debate about the use of nudity in Kill la Kill and the insight offered helped me form my own opinion on its presence, which resulted in my score shifting from a 3/10 to a 7/10.

It's not about letting other people think for you. It's just about keeping an open mind to other possibilities.

Nothing in life has a point.

So claiming that debating has no point is a moot point.

I know right? But someone think that there is subtle minor difference. In one, you're trying to prove the other guy wrong, in the other, you're trying to show the audience you're the better side. Basically, debate has an audience.

Debate on wikipedia:

Debate or debating is a formal method of interactive and representational argument. Debate is a broader form of argument than logical argument, which only examines consistency from axiom, and factual argument, which only examines what is or isn't the case or rhetoric which is a technique of persuasion. Though logical consistency, factual accuracy and some degree of emotional appeal to the audience are important elements of the art of persuasion, in debating, one side often prevails over the other side by presenting a superior "context" and/or framework of the issue, which is far more subtle and strategic.
Argue on wikipedia:

In philosophy and logic, an argument is an attempt to persuade someone of something, by giving reasons or evidence for accepting a particular conclusion.[1][2] The general structure of an argument in a natural language is that of premises (typically in the form of propositions, statements or sentences) in support of a claim: the conclusion.[3][4][5] Many arguments can also be formulated in a formal language. An argument in a formal language shows the logical form of the natural language arguments obtained by its interpretations.
Thus a debate is:

More formal
More intellectual
Normally concerns factual events, or theories
Concerned with persuading the opposing party to an alternate viewpoint

I am just copying.

Debate:
": a discussion between people in which they express different opinions about something"

Argument:

There is no point on an anime forum or better yet on the Internet in general. More than half of the debaters there are walking satire and irony. Your best bet to argue with someone is in actual life where only the real shit comes out of your mouth.

Nah, you're just doing it wrong. I learned many things through arguing and reading arguments. Whether it be science, concepts, theories, terms, language, philosophy, fallacies, and other things. Of course, this taking into account that the argument is not just two people barking nonsense at each other.

Also, it's fun and a great time waster.

^This boy put the definition and couldn't see the difference
--Y'see that word Between in the first one --this is alluding to the fact that there is an actual to&fro of ideas in a Debate
then the fact that the word "they" is not used" during argument
The Breakdown:
1. an argument -- is merely one person trying to express whatever point he can, whatever you say isn't gonna matter, He'll just try and cram it down your throat (that is the angle from both sides of an argument)
^ thus the they was removed (because everyone is arguing for the sake of his/her own individuality) it's not to create progress for people in general, rather it's merely for the sake of imposing on others

"in which people", "between people".

Your interpretation is merely subjective, it has nothing to do with semantics, you're trying to fit a narrative to the word for some reason.

I'm not trying to serve a point - I'm teaching you that definitions weren't chosen at random (every word was chosen & placed in order to set a specific meaning
If the dictionary you use isn't providing information suitable for helping you understand (you may want to switch)
Certainly, synonyms are the same but they all have minor differences. It's like calling the balcony at cheap hotel, a mezzanine.

Which you can't really "teach me" considering your argument is vague because of lack of English classes.

Yes, but not all of them. I still have yet to see an explanation to how your "semantics argument" was not merely a narrative you've added to the word without any type of proof.

This latest reply makes no sense though, so I won't even consider this an argument.
