I never really got into manga until I read 'Sukitte Ii Na Yo' & 'Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama' to find out the endings to the animes.
Before them, I hated manga and couldn't understand how to read it (though my first attempt was at a very young age).

The one that really changed my mind about manga though was Shugo Chara! unbelieveably. That's the one that lead me to look for mangas without animes/reading before watching.

Hikaru no Go, it was really interesting and very different from the anime I like to watch. That's when I started reading manga much more than watching anime. Still remains one of my favorites to this day.

This is hard because I read so much in a short span of time and was hooked from the start. I think the first ones I ever read and hooked me were:

Oyasumi Punpun: Never read anything like it. Very beautiful art and the emotions evoked from it felt so raw and realistic. Masterpiece. I'm glad this was one of the first manga I read as it made me realize how extraordinary manga can be.

Hana Yori Dango: Shoujo goodness. Loved the characters and read this straight in 3 days. Barely ate and slept LOL.

Fruits Basket: Really adorable. I watched the anime first (which I loved). It's a really fun read.

Ouran Koukou Host Club: Also another fun manga.

It's great when a manga really grips you and you can't stop reading it. Manga can be so amazing at how different one can be from another. So much creativity that can't easily be translated into a show or a movie but can only be experienced by reading it.

Doraemon, Doraemon Adventure, and its dozens of spinoffs. Basically everything about this childhood's most favourite franchise of mine is what got me into manga and anime in the first place.

Ayashi no Ceres was the first manga that I read and collected in its entirety so you could say it's the one that got me "hooked." While my tastes have changed a bit since then it remains one of my favorites.

mmmh... probably fullmetal alchemist, considering it was the first real manga that dragged me into the japanase modern arts world(well, without considering naruto for obvious reaand deathnote because i preferred watching the anime and left the manga to my brother)

if i'd go for "sure-ness" i'd say either doubt or eyeshield 21, both are my first 2 scan-manga i read.

Death Note for me. It was my foray into the anime and manga verse. I was instantly hooked. That was way back in 2008.

the first manga i read that actually introduced me to the medium was fullmetal alchemist, unfortunately i've been taking a rather long break on it with six volumes i have yet to read although i started back in 2011.

my favorite manga has to be sweet blue flowers/aoi hana, i remember as soon as i picked it up i didn't want to stop reading because i could relate to it so much. it was something that made me really happy and i delayed finishing it for as long as i could. i was hooked but reluctant to let it end!

Idol Dreams is what pulled me into the manga/anime world, but the one series that REALLY got me into manga was either Ouran High School Host Club, Love * Com, Beauty Pop or Fullmoon O Sagashite. They are all great.
