definitely the ending of mahoromatic: something more beautiful. mahoro dies and Suguru mentally breaks down, turning into a half-cyborg hoodlum 20 years in the future....until reunited with mahoro again. that's like negi springfield from negima suddenly turning into gene starwind from outlaw star 20 years in the future. |

Sola When I found out Yorito was made from paper. I really liked the anime but the fact he was made from paper kinda ruined it for me Naruto When Sakura cut her hair (episode 45 or something) Claymore When Priscilla cut off teresa's head, I really thought teresa would finish priscilla off.. :C Blood+ When Irene took Saya's blood, the Thorn was supposed to go away.. but then she died |

Claymore Teresa's death by Priscilla and when Rigardo annihilated Flora. I'm still mourning her death... WHY FLORA WWWWWHHHHHYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!?! Death Note Matsuda's emotional scene in the final episode, where he shoots Light multiple times and says he has to kill him. Best scene in the entire series. I could list pretty much everything from Evangelion in this thread as well. |

Code Geass R1&R2 Euphinator and Zero Requiem. The first one made me literally mutter 'what...the...fuck...', the second made me bawl like a kid. Darker than Black Ryuusei no Gemini April's death surprised me. Higurashi Takano being behind al this shit. Death Note L's death. And then again, Mello's ;__; But what really made me go WUT was Matsuda in rage mode, repeatedly shooting Light. Crowning Moment of Awesome. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Kamina's death was spoiled for me so yeah D: But then, when Viral became the next pilot... AWESOME. Wolf's Rain Everybody dying on me D: Especially Toboe. Dear God, Toboe. This one broke my heart. FMA (Brotherhood) Ling becoming Greedling, best freaking fusion EVER. And then the reveal of The Plan. I was literally staring at the screen with nothing but pure shock. Although I'm talking about when I first read it. Brotherhood got to this part when I already knew from the manga. |

All animes are predictable, there is no such thing as a "surprise ending", or "surprise plot twist". Those who can't predict what will happen next in an anime aren't watching it, or rather, they're just watching it superificially. Which is quite understandable if you look at the general audience of anime watchers. |

You can't say you saw everything coming in Death Note, either. That series had surprises left, right and center and was bound to catch the viewer out at least once. Major Spoliers! Snape kills dumbledore But in all seriousness there is alot of forshadowing going on in NGE about asoku's death(haven't watched it in awhile, don't mind spelling) -In death note it is was easy to see that L was gonna die, being because I realized Light's plan to to forget his memories(etc etc) had a double effect. One- to cover his ass, two - to stop his opponent(to kill him basically). Skipping to the end, Light gets shot by that wanna be policeman. Why? Whatshisface was always in the shadows of the other officers. Actually most of the officers had little characterization episodes or segments. So it was obvious one of them(one of the meek, timid ones) was gonna eventually lose it to look more memorable. -FLCL - Admittedly this one was hard to follow, being so random and crazy at time. But the thing about animes such as these is you have to have the same mentality and mindset as the anime. So I thought what would be a random event happening. Of course I wasn't on directly on target, but you know, weird inhuman things, and other vague theories came to mind I don't feel like taking the time to outline everything. Since I saw most of these animes(excluding death note) like 5 years ago. |

Death Note and Evangelion spoilers Asuka is alive at the end of The End of Evangelion. Since you mentioned the foreshadowing of her death, I assume you never predicted that she would live. Plus Evangelion is so involved that it takes multiple viewings to understand. No one can possibly predict what is going to happen on the first viewing (unless of course you were involved in the creation of the series). It's impossible. Hang on... you think Matsuda shot Light to look more memorable? With all your talk about people watching series superificially I would have assumed that you yourself would have watched it properly. Matsuda's character isn't a hero, he is more of a helper archetype. So natrually when he discovers that his hero, the one he has been supporting throughout the entire series, is actually the villain, it has a huge emotional impact on him. He shoots Light in his emotional rage and because he is so upset about what Light has done, and what Light has become. Did you not see the tears running down his face? If you weren't spot on with Furi Kuri then why state that anime is predictable in the first place, when it clearly isn't considering how you yourself found it hard to follow. |

Death Note had a ton of surprises, but seriously... Matsuda shooting down Light was a crowning moment of epicness for the series, which is SAYING SOMETHING, because Death Note has a lot of them. Perhaps this was the biggest surprise because it was Matsuda doing something awesome. *Matsuda* Example from Generator Gawl Ryo is that scientist guy?! And Koji is that guy working for the villain?! And Natsume's explosion leaves *that* huge of a crater?! Fullmetal Alchemist (manga) King Bradley's cute son is Pride. The freaking creepiest homonculus EVER. Oh, just thought of an example from School Rumble So I watch the first episode, and everything is silly right off the bat, but I didn't think it was going to be over-the-top random at first. But then... the bike chase scene happens. XP I was so confused the first time I watched it, I had to go back and watch the scene again, just to be sure that this was actually happening, and was still the same show. Epic funny. Another good example is Karasuma's turtle raincoat outfit a few eps later. Did NOT see that coming. o_o |
