Fun game: When watching a dual-audio anime for the first time, watch in Japanese till about halfway through the series, then switch it to English(mid episode), then count the number of seconds until you start to claw at your own face in frenzied horror.

Do it the other way around. It'll work the same way.

I only watch subs and never dubs. I can't stand them, if it is not voices in japanese I just can't watch it, it feels weird.

The same with movies; when an english movie is released in another country it can be either subbed or dubbed and if the latter, it sounds horrible...

Watching subs has just become second nature for me. 99.9% of the time, I'm watching subtitled. BUT! The only thing that didn't obey this was Death Note (the second time I watched it), Bleach (because I started with the dub and then the sub just felt wrong), and the first, like, twenty episodes of Naruto.

Always subbed. Orginal audio is the best, I try to watched some dubbed anime, but it's terrible.

All of the stuff I don't own on DVD I watch subbed. If it is on DVD I will usually watch dubbed version first, and then compare against subbed version. For example, the Steam Boy dubbed is terrible and sounds super corny, so I prefer the subbed version.

Watch both, but when I find a good dub I stick with it...and it's near impossible for me to keep up when I have to read translations for japanese text along with the subtitles for dialogue

I really hate to see what sub nazis say on this thread. The best dubbed anime I ever saw is Gundam 00, especialy Allelujah's voice actor did good job matching the Japanese one and perhaps little bit better because he sounds less annoying.

I have watched some anime subbed, but considering the quality of most subs I usually watch it dubbed. It is usually better in the original language after all...

I usually watch the dub if there is one, but most of the anime I watch is sub only. I like dubs because I can pay more attention to the whole screen instead of focusing on the text at the bottom.

I prefer subs for alot of reasons, one being that I don't like many dubs and also because it's the original voices. I do like some dubs, but the original Japanese voiceactors are always better. :)

Subs usually. I like to watch animes in the original japanese and with a bit of text at the bottom. However, when an anime is supposed to have characters that aren't Japanese, I usually watch them dubbed. The only dubs I ever watched and enjoyed are Baccano, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Full Metal Alchemist, and Black Lagoon.

I prefer dubs only because I don't have to watch the whole time. I can't stand missing little parts on subs, so with dubs I can never get lost with the story and have to rewind or pause, etc. Plus, I rather hear people who speak my language, even if they can't voice act for shit.

subs. Usually english voice actors don't convey enough emotion or convey too much emotion (VERY EXCITED GIRLS. D:< ) And English usually has terrible voice matches for characters...the voice doesn't suit them at all. D:

I usually watch dubs if they exist, unless I've heard they're bad. Sometimes I watch subs out of convenience (for example, if it's streaming sub-only on FUNimation Video or a simialr site). I also generally watch subs if the dub only exists for part of a show, since switching partway through can be jarring unless the English VAs really sound like the Japanese ones.

In the end, it probably comes out at about 50-50.

Sub is my first choice with dub being second.

I use to watch both equally until I learned a lot of my favorite shows had been cut to death and Yu-gi-oh; sorry but I think the voices are terrible.

I only watch dub if I have to, I've gotten really good at watch sub so it's a little weird for me to do otherwise.

Wouldn't know, since I wasn't even able to finish the first dubbed episode. Really was just using that as a short example, otherwise I'd have carried on about miss pronounced names and terrible voice acting.

There are a few I prefer over a dubs but not so many. Most of the dubs I've seen are usually great to decent.

If there's a dub, and it isn't terrible, I'll watch that. I'm not above "reading", but I don't get all the smugness about subs. I mean, having a show in your native language is a good thing, especially if you've spent all day reading and thinking, and you just want to relax, without having to constantly focus on the screen. But if the dub is just a mess, I'll man-up and read it.
