This particular season is full of great episodes, but in my opinion, this episode is the best in the Mushishi series. The last part is really unexpected and that leads to the great ending of this episode.

Sort of a time travel episode, I guess though Ginko doesn't give enough explanation to the time loop, like does Ginko was forced to relive that moment again and again? I guess no, in every loop the Ginko is not the same

Quite a sad ending though, bringing his wife into the loop with him...

At first I thought this was a metaphor about the folly of regret; the mundane version would be Kaoru often wondering what would have happened if he hadn't been unkind or dishonest regarding the sake brewer's son. But the ending really put a twist on it. IT's also a rare case of a mushi's influence on a human not being removed by the end of the story.

I like how that resentful boy looms as such a mysterious figure. I was wondering if he would appear again in any way or if Kaoru would attempt to undo his bad behavior but it never went that way.

Life is about setting up priorities. The protagonist of this episode (Kaoru) faces three situations here: reliving his life over and over, having a lasting regret due to committing injustice to the apprentice kid, and loosing his wife. He chooses to save his wife over the other two in the end.

Another well written and directed, enlightening episode.

This was one of the best episodes of the series.
It had a bittersweet taste, kaoru sacrificing himself so that she survives was so lovely.

I was yearning for a time-travel related Mushi, and thankfully, both the Mushi and the episode in general delivered. Great atmosphere, and such a bittersweet ending
