It can certanly largely boost creativity, self awareness, society awareness, it can also breake many forbiden topics/taboos or topics that people are too afraid to admit , wont admit or are deluding themselfs from posibilities. It can make you more open minded .

Stuff like Nge,Kuuchuu Buranko, Paranoia agent,EP,Lain can also make you question yourself and portray variety of things in whole new way that you would not ever think about it.

So answer is yes it can but not as a whole medium.

Intelligence is subjective. There is no point to arguing about it. We don't know how to quantify intelligence. It is all subjective.

It helps with my japanese i guess...Oh and you also get to learn different cultures in japan that you're not aware of so i guess it's a little educational.

If you need an excuse to watch more anime, then the answer is: YES, of course! Otherwise: No, not really, if you're watching it just for fun. To learn something from anime, you'd probably have to put more thought into it than you do by "just" watching it. You could learn Japanese and use it as a practice, in that case it would help...

It depends. Really, it can.
It can make a person more analytical, for example. It just depends on how the viewer sees anime.

a lot of brain cells must have died while creating this thread

on topic though: if english is not your mother language, it can indeed help you learn english but only up to a certain level since subtitles consist of very simple words. if you really want to improve your english skills better read books:p

It's you who makes you smarter, not anime or books. You can read the smartest book in the world but not understand it at all so it's useless for you or you can find something valuable in stupid things. It only depends on what you are willing to gain from this.

you will not be able to gain anything from "the most stupid thing(s)" (what the heck is that even supposed to be?)
obviously you need to insert some kind of effort, but that's kind of a given..

Maybe . I know stuff like plot armor , pacing , character development , info dump all from anime . Never know writing would be this complicated haha

idk if they re necessarily related , it s just a thought

tbh I'd say yes it does , but i think it can make you dumber too but this one is less probable than the former

i think if you watch good animes that present fairly realistic relationships
innovative conceptual ideas
prb realistic picturing for areas of life you didn't know about or experiences that you didn't try before

Having a decent taste in art and aesthetics since you will raise a critical sense of what makes a good show and most anime fans have a debative spirit in them and i think there re alot of highly critical smart folks here

it has a complex rich and vivid social community to it that is soo advanced and rooted that even an outsider could not understand most if its culture

I mean if anime in general can give you a decent realistic presentation or picturing of anything that you're interested in or didn't know about so you can at least get out with a decent knowledge + having good time in the process . But as everyone know anime generally is not a good place for that

i m not really trying to prove it here , but these are just interesting thoughts on it that wanted to share with you and i wonder what s you're thoughts about it guys .

Most of what you said was just stating the obvious. In other words yes you are correct. Anime is where this type of thing applies in the degree you mentioned, above the degree that is normally applied to other things.

In short, yes anime makes me a smarter person, and this observation not a worthless one.
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Anime does make me think and say things outside the box. It makes me think spiritual concepts are only the very beginning rather than the end.
I CELEBRATE myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
