THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Also see this thread too..

First thing, the background art and music were gorgeous, and nice job from the VAs. Storywise felt like they decided to animate a side story so we don't know too much about the main story or lead characters, but that didn't take away from it's poignancy. Good use of flashback to give enough information for this special, but hopefully the anime series will go into more detail. Also CG blended nicely and, even when it was obvious e.g. armoured bugs, for me it still didn't detract.

Looking forward to the October ^^

I was shocked by how much I liked that. I was expecting something more generic shounen since it came from shounen jump but it was nothing like the rest of them. It felt more like Kino's Journey.

Music was amazing but CGI bugs...just no.

That was pretty good, actually. I thought that the backgrounds were pretty and the story for this one was pretty good as well. I will probably be watching the TV series due to lack of other interesting stuff to watch.

Omg! Am I the only person who finds this anime boring? Well... It really doesn't look like anything special to me.
Definitely not gonna watch the series.

shigofumi was so much better. granted, this is only episode 00, but it seems much more juvenile.

Agreed, but I think Letter Bee is aiming for something different to Shigofumi.

Nice start, was wondering what this was gonna be like, but I liked how they did it. I've read a lil of the manga, so I knew some stuff, but it was great how they incorporated the flashback. Niche is funny, I think I'll def be watching the series...Urahara Out!!

Pleasantly surprised. Was a bit kiddish, but also sad and funny. Liked the darker aspects a lot.
The Gaichuu were somewhat WTF, but I'm SO going to check the series.

I think for someone not familiar with the series already, this is enough to get them hooked.
Personally, I think it was very sweet. The art work was everything I hoped it could be.

I just realized Darwin was influenced by Hachiko!

This anime presents an original "task" for a shônen adventure. The world looks interesting enough with its giant mechanic insects (in 3DCGI -_-), probably old war machines who survived. The environments and musics were mostly beautiful (despite some CGI elements).
The story was not really impressive as a Hachiko version but simple and nice enough to support this OAV.

7/10 Effective: it presented the characters, let us see a piece of the world and some intriguing things (magical technology, fantasy animals and supernatural powers) while telling a little story.

Watched both versions, the music is sadder here, animation is obviously better in the TV version. Poor Elena and Darwin.
