Nice ending!!!

The series wasn't that good but had some episodes of course which made it amazing. The plot wasn't that good and also the concept. But the story was quite enjoyable. I did both liked it and also didn't liked it. Wish it was a bit more clear.

Decum is still cool :) !!!

When I completed the first half of this anime, then i thought the abstraction of this show is nothing but a debris, but after the talk of Nona, I got some crucial vibes. In the end, I'd almost cried but it wasn't as much cloying as it should be. The scene was panegyric and emotional but it could be more schmaltzy... BGM was pretty cool, the animation was awesome too, some Episodes felt like a kind of filler but it's the Anime with just 12 episodes so it's kinda unfair to disdain it, the cameo was unexpected but I seriously wanted a bit more of it. This show gave me an incompitable experience, as it was a bit Philosphical at some places.

Idk man, seems like it didn’t really have any clear direction it was going in. I’d be lying if I didn’t get some feels from this last episode though. But are the themes actually shallower than they seem? It’s basically emotionless man discovers emotion. Man I think this could’ve been so much better if these guys acted more like actual deities rather than kind of being sort of noob and discovering things for themselves. Sure I guess it adds some layers but it just makes for not so steady foundation. Do these guys know what they’re doing or not? If you’re gonna say that having flaws makes then more relatable and more human, NO. They’re meant to be the perfect judges, completely impartial. Or perhaps that’s what the message is, that morality is subjective? Whatever, who knows, all the rules were so blurry anyway.

I loved death billiards and it hyped me up so much for the main series. Why? Because I thought we were going to get an episodic character study on the nature of mankind. I mean yeah that’s what we got but it seemed to focus more on decim and what’s her name by the end. Each episode giving us a new look at two new dead characters and see how they play off of each other, that’s what I would have preferred a Surprised I’m saying this but I’d actually prefer not to have a story to follow. Perhaps something different for the last episode to tie it all up but that’s it. Instead it seems like the games are more of a backdrop or a supporting foundation for our main characters to make them discover more about THEMSELVES instead. I would have preferred if everyone like decim were actually the supporting cast and have the actual deceased humans be the main focus. But instead it’s kind of half and half and it felt shaky.

Nonetheless I was enthralled throughout the entire run time and damn were the visuals EXQUISITE. Now what I said aren’t necessarily complaints, but rather just pointing out what is what I think is wasted potential. In the end it’s a good anime. 7/10. I just wish they could’ve just keep going with the death billiards energy instead, keep it simple, yet profound, you know?

it ended. and it ended well. so the dolls that are in ginti's bar are his previous customers that made an impression on him? or was it only mayu ..?

for a second decim became "human" his eyes became normal as he felt pure sorrow.

there's of course some things that i think they could have done better on, and some stuff they could've focused on less. its ended fairly openly so we can just leave those up to our imaginations but i rly wished we couldve seen more from the characters. like what was clavis even supposed to be? elevator man?

aah im gonna miss this but that was a great ending. would love to see more content+more seasons but if its worse than this or is something that'll ruin the franchise then im perfectly happy with this season alone

Such a wasted potential. The concept and idea of this anime is amazing and has a lot of potential. Sad that the execution only kinda mediocre.

I guess that's the weakness of an original anime compared to adapting an already successful material. The production team might find their works amazing, but the people can have a different idea.

Still a great anime tho.

Well the final episode. Decim tricked Chiyuki but because of that he felt ''sorrow'', aka human feelings. Love his character development, also Chiyuki's. I teared up when I saw her mother suffering. But we got a sweet ending. Chiyuki rencairnated, Decim just doing his job.

This was a fun ride, op and ed were both amazing, characters were interesting (Decim the most), animation was good.

8/10, +1 for enjoyment = 9/10

Some things were not explained properly and the introduction of characters like Oculus, Castra, Ginti etc was pretty lame imo. It was kinda repetitive at the begining too. The ending was good though. Pretty good anime 8/10

The ending was actually good but I feel like something is lacking the show. Oculus is pretty creepy. And Nona idk what her thoughts and plans are, I wanted this to have 24 episodes so I don't feel rushed. I guess thats it. In the end Decim has a doll of Chiyuki sitting in the chair. 8/10 overall

I kinda have very mixed feelings about the ending, it feels like it tried to show and achieve something specially during first part of it but then it fell very flat and incomplete towards the end.

There was a lot of missed oppotunities, during final episodes and it felt like the end achieved almost nothing, ye Decim had its final character development moments, but what about the rest, what about everything that surrounds him, I see nothing but dull conclusion for all that.

I guess this show really wasn't bad at all kinda wanted to rate it higher , but I think Ill stick with 7/10 it just didn't managed to make me see why its worth more than that, but the whole concept was great just never delivered its full potentiial in the end

Man, my head is pondering over if I've just finished watching a really touching and thrilling story with a thought provoking message about life and what we think about it... or if those aspects really cover the fact that there's no conclusive ending and some points were let loose.

For the positives, have you seen that opening? Damn, Bradio really leaves a mark even after all these years and the animation was on par while deceiving my eyes on what I was about to watch. In general, the jazzy soundtrack suits the ambience of Quindecim and the tense moments do have their share of good animation thanks to Madhouse.

What other topic does the series touch upon that is remarkable? Oh yeah, life. A simple matter for some, terribly complex for others, more so to arbitrers and the way they have to pass judgements. In the end I feel like the series tried to tell us to live it to its fullest and that there are many variables to understand each other that we do not have the capacity to say who gets to live or not and maybe no-one does in a manner of speaking.

That's deep alright and it hits you in the face with scenes like the one involving Tatsumi and Shimada as well as Chiyuki's one when trying to talk to her mother again. A tear was shed and emotions were felt indeed.

However, a message as powerful as this one needs, in my opinion, to be carried out in a better way. The way Chiyuki after reflecting about people understanding each other after her injury was certainly strange to me as was the way her judgment was postponed for so long. Mayu's case was even worse for how it ended. If she was gonna go to the void anyway, what was the point of having her around in later episodes? It's not like she made that much of a difference.

Nona's overall goal as well as the God-like entity she was with were a mystery to me. It's not really clear by the end if she accomplished anything towards it or not and since there's no second season my guess is as good as none. Maybe with a couple more episodes we could have arrived at a better conclusion for the story as a whole.

Regardless, I really enjoyed this and now I'm curious about Death Billiards. I should look it up in a jiffy.

This is a great finale. As I watched through the episode, I couldn't seem to stop my tears from falling. Especially, the scene where Decim bids farewell to Chiyuki... it's just heartbreaking. It's just sad that after Chiyuki left, the system never changed; it was still flawed.

Also, I just noticed that just like Decim, Ginti also makes remembrance of all the people who visited his bar in the form of kokeshi dolls, as in his last scene, he is shown shining a new kokeshi doll in Mayu's likeness.

Decim's smile was just priceless, and the mannequin Chiyuki in the last scene really made me cry a barrel. I'm really going to miss this show.

I didn't give this show enough credit at first. I thought Decim was an unfeeling protagonist, but I guess his lack of emotions was the whole point. Still, he was a pretty uninteresting character for most of the series. I didn't much care for any of the characters. The story is half-baked. The art style is fairly bland, and I didn't like the character designs. There are some good ideas and discussions about life and death, but there isn't much beneath the show's glitzy, sophisticated aesthetic.

Chiyuki such a pure soul, I would have pressed it instantly if I saw my mom suffering like that...
And it is so unusual to se Decim smiling, it doesn't fit him.
But for the final episode I must say it's great anime, gave me great experience for such a short period of 12 episodes. Probably one of the best 12ep anime I've watched

Well, that was a very good show ! Among those that won't easily leave me. The message is beautiful, it generally felt incredibly real which made the whole thing all the more impactful, and Decim's character development was great ! And Chiyuki was a very good character as well.
It's the kind of shows that make me feel all sorts of emotions in a very strong way, and that's always a great thing ! It wasn't always easy to watch though, this last episode for example broke my heart with Chiyuki's scene with her mother. And that brings me to talk about one of my favorite aspects : how this show puts you so well in the characters' shoes and makes you think about what you would've done in these situations. Not only is it very interesting from a psychological point of view, but it also really helps making the message all the more impactful. And of course, I shouldn't forget about the beautiful art direction ! Really, a great experience.

That said, I still thought it could've been better, there were some flaws I unfortunately couldn't overlook because they do impact the quality of the writing. One in particular : apparently Decim is the first arbiter to feel real emotions, which is quite the whole point of his character... Except he actually is far from being the only one, every single character is shown to feel strong emotions ! So unless I've misunderstood something, there's something that just isn't right and it undermines the overall story. But there are others, like the whole deal with Mayu which I thought was badly explained (why didn't she receive her judgment immediately like everyone else ?), or most of the characters from that Tower thing (I don't remember if they mentionned the name of this place) lack some real development. I liked Nona though, but unfortunately the anime was too short. I'm hoping for a season 2.

So well, I give it a 7/10, but it's a very strong one !

I like the cheekiness of the opening scene which teases a fantasy happy ending where time is reversed (when has it ever done that?), erasing Chiyuki's suicide and she gets another chance at life. Confirming that it would not do something like that for the actual ending was dramatically useful, too.

Decim saying Chiyuki had been dead for three months was also a cute joke; 12 episodes at once a week is indeed three months.

I'm not entirely sure of the meaning of Chiyuki asking Decim to press the button for her. It seems a bit like the "creating darkness" criticism he made of the arbitration process earlier, but he does send her to reincarnate despite this so perhaps the idea is he forgives her for it exactly because he tempted her too much. If she's asking someone else to do it it means she can't do it herself and that's the more meaningful point. More humane arbitration that tries to be more self-critical?

Decim's use of the remote control as a prop to put Chiyuki through a trial without actually activating it to meddle with the proceedings like before might have been a clever turn and represent his drive to judge souls differently, but he actually only used it once before, and even Ginti, Decim's foil in being a hardass arbiter uncritical of the process, doesn't ever use it! It seems like arbiters interfering with the games to provoke reactions should have been a larger part of the story and why Chiyuki and then Decim decide the way judgement is done is wrong.

Overall I can't say I'm that impressed; the fantasy idea of the dead being judged in pairs by arbiters who have to investigate to find an answer has surprisingly little presence for how important it is, and has to be, to the story. There were only seven judgments in the 12 episodes, and one of those was gentle and uneventful (episode 3) and another even more so (episode 10). Twice only one person was judged (e10+e12), so maybe you should call it six pairs instead; only enough for half the episodes! If it's about the newly dead confronting the meaning of their lives and deaths, and what it means to judge them, then it just doesn't happen often enough. It spends too much time on the staff of the "tower" which getting much payoff for it, although not nothing.

Perhaps being longer would have improved it since there would have been more room for episodes that simply explore the basic premise. Realistically it would probably be 24 episodes and I'm not sure these writers could deliver enough decent stories to meet that number.
