Well, I'm not saying this is bad, not bad at all, but the best part of the episode is still the OP <3 (Which made this episode take 30min to watch.)
Maid Index > normal Index.

I think people are still too used to how Railgun did the plot (which is cover it up with biribiri fanservice and put bits and pieces of plot in the episodes til it all ravels out). Cool setup episode though it did feel a bit slow. But judging from the preview, looks like shit is about to get real.

No, the problem is very simple you have a series with two female characters, one is SUPREMELY popular and is a character who by all accounts makes the show a lot better, and another character which is almost THE EXACT OPPOSITE.

This is really no debate, Even though Railgun does not have the story structure or even a better plot that Index has, it was still seen better and more enjoyable by fans.

Railgun has a better Rating as compared to Index season 1

Misaka Mikoto favorites (1500+ )
Index favorites (241)

OH, and for the people that think that Mikoto's popularity is because of Index, THEY ARE DEAD WRONG, her popularity was small until Railgun made her into a superstar: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=119489 (This link is proof of what I have said)

I like Mikoto and all (she is even one of my favorite characters) but I don't think the author should throw her in every damn arc. She will get her screentime, as others characters will, when she is needed (ok, I know in which arcs I can expect her :P ). For those fanboys and fangirls who can't live without her... well read the Railgun manga or rewatch the Railgun anime. Her popularity didn't help her to get constant screentime in Index novels (hell, she even seems to be the author's favorite) and neither will it help her much here (unlike Railgun, Index anime is more faithful to the source material).

Man, i can't wait for final fight of this arc, hope it'll be epic animated. Other than that, did like the episode. They're sticking with novel so it's ok.

Also, Orsola's got a huge rack doesn't she?

Didnt expect the random fanservice, though the fanservice itself wasnt anything particularly bad. There was more of it than I thought there would be. There was also an EXTREMELY HARD to see cameo of Saten-san and Accelerator with last order in this episode.

i saw saten but cant find accelerator :( .

Too much loli fanservice for my tastes. Although the Index maid scene wasn't too bad, surprisingly enough.

Not much happened this episode but considering it was the set-up for the first arc of Index II, I guess that's to be expected. 3/5

Hope to see more Kanzaki soon and if those spoilers I peeked at were true, this should be a pretty interesting arc.

Lol OMG! I hadn't put that together but it's hilarious! In the novels it explained it all quite properly but without the explanation it's just ridiculous! Made my day.

I don't understand why everyone is calling this a fanservice ep. There were three instances of fanservice and they all happened at the very end of the episode. I mean, come on. And J.C.Staff didn't put this in as filler, it's directly from the novels as Onibokusu said, and each of those fanservice scenes has an illustration.

Anyway, this episode put to rest any fear I had of J.C.Staff turning Index II into another Shana II fiasco. They kept extremely faithful to the novels, almost to a T, and the pacing was just right. Since this was a mere exposition episode, I'll give it a 3/5. However, if I were to base my vote on how well J.C.Staff adapted the novel, it would be a 4.5.

Oh boy, some people in here REALLY need to read the novels.
The 3 "fan service" scenes where all in the light novels. Nothing about "forced".
Also, Mikoto is science side, and this is a magic arc. We'll get to see enough of her throughout this season (especially during Daihasei).
Also, for the sleeping nuns, they explain in the light novels that they have to preserve as much of their strength as possible, so they sleep for like 2 hours or sth.
Oh, and to bad they didn't include Stiyl's warning to Touma, that he will even burn him.
And with this the setup for epicness is complete. Gogo Touma next episode. :3

Also, Saten and Accelerator + Loli-Misaka fucking WHERE?!

Index frequently sneaks into touma's bed iirc. This time Anieze just happened to preempt it I guess. Anieze is a bit of a mystery though.

I have a different view on this. Just because those scenes are in the novels doesn't mean it isn't fan service. I would consider it fan service in the novels as well. Regardless, I'm not one of the ones complaining about the fan service in this episode, I didn't mind it.

This is actually the first time I've encountered the word being used in this context. I always figured fanservice was fanservice regardless of whether it was in the source material or not. The Love Hina manga had plenty of fanservice and it wasn't artificially added at any point. Maybe the meaning changed at some point without my noticing.

Honestly though, I don't know why people are surprised. Season 1 had plentiful naked lolis and in the hyouka arc they established that Touma had whatever ailment all harem holders have that causes them to always walk in on underclad women and trip into compromising positions. His distinction is that he's pretty genuinely uninterested in most members of his harem, so no nosebleeds, but it still stands.
