Well, since some of the episodes have been leaked we've got confirmation: Nipples are censored, either by being obscured by objects, or sometimes by using barbie doll anatomy. Additionally even butt cracks are censored too.

For the most part. Found a few frames in the newly leaked episodes (all 12 have been leaked now) that showed some ass, but not much.

Honestly speaking, the reboot doesn't really look very impressive, even ignoring the censorship. I think the old anime looks a lot better.

Very frustrating. Once again we are getting censorship due to the requirement to appeal to western audiences. I will bet you the main reason censorship like this happen is because of the west. This definitely influences my decision to watch it or not. censorship is dog shit, I haven't seen the original ranma so I'll probably just watch that instead.

@Jokuc It seems more complicated than just appealing western audience. In general, it seems that TV anime in Japan have become more "prude" (although we still see naked breasts on the new Ranma 1/2 anime).

There are currently anime with a lot of ecchi and fanservice, but these are usually broadcast on not so mainstream channels and timeslots.

Now, I've understand the issue with censoring, but it seems a little exagerated. Male characters are drawn without nipples all the time on animation (male Ranma didn't have nipples in the original and new anime), but people start to complaint about baby doll body only when female characters are drawn without nipples.

You can blame conservative politicians in Tokyo for the prudishness. They literally regulate this stuff.

Because on females it looks actually disturbing and more noticeable because of their breasts. On males and prepubertal children no nipples or just faintly hinted ones doesnt really look that weird in most cases. Ive seen cases where male nipples are drawn but not female nipples too which is even worse a contrast.

Just go watch some ecchi anime with nipples if it bothers you

Never watched the original besides a few episodes, is this like Urusei Yatsura where its just one quick scene with mild nudity in the first episode? I’ve noticed from watching lots of old anime specifically from the 80s, they often showed boobs in the first episode then basically never do it again. A brilliant way to get teenage boys to keep watching. If that is the case, its not a big deal really… If it was throughout the whole series and theyre censoring it all, i can understand the complaints though.

What I don't get is how in today's culture showing nips not okay but showing penis is.

Im so tired of the incredibly vanilla puritan culture we have right now. It feels like its for ads sake and everything is essentially kids content. I am an adult and I can handle nipples and whatever else is in Ranma. I read it around age 14 and that was fine as well..

It's ecchi half the time. I'm definitely gonna skip on this piece of garbage if it doesn't get a BD release where the ecchi is shown again, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

Luckily the original anime was really good so I'm just gonna rewatch that for now. Great opportunity.

@Pit93 You'll be waiting forever then, since BDs are useless these days. They rarely fix bad art/animation, let alone uncensor nudity which is like 100x rarer than that.

Hopefully this remake won't be current year censored slop where Happosai gets nerfed while also lacking nipples. These elements are why the og was such a huge hit.
