@Lucifrost   Yes, it says it right here, set in a fictional country.  It is tagged as historical, because based on the aesthetic it's clearly going for ancient China. It IS a fictional story. I don't see where the confusion is. |

| I like history, and a lot of the historical anime that aren't set in Japan seem to very loosely adapt to the period, or incorporate this magical aspect, or power scaling or whatnot, and to me, I'd prefer they just don't play with actual history then, and make an adjacent setting. However, it all depends on how well written it is. Historical show: Vinland, Kingdom, Angolmois, Yuujo Senki, Le chevalier d'eon, Arslan Senki, Undead Girl Murder Farce, Kochoki, and I guess I've gotta mention Demon Slayer. Of them, I can say that I liked the historical aspects of Undead Girl Murder Farce, and that's it. And that's an alternate history setting, as clearly established. I liked Kingdom, but if it was set in a fictional location like Apothecary Diaries, then I doubt my opinion of it would change. When I think historical, I think of the style of Arslan Senki, which was too shounen IMO for what it tried to be, but I don't think I'd really like it more if it was Seinen-like. Then again, that might just be Kingdom, so who knows. Edit: I remembered Rurouni Kenshin. Not that I'm much aware of the Meiji Restoration, but it really used it's setting well. It does have characters able to do impossible things though, which doesn't set it as historical right away, though. And then, there's the difference between something set in history, and those shows that "recreate history", which I guess is what I mostly consider historical, and those I'm more critical towards. |
