I don't. The anime industry could literally collapse today for all I care, all the anime I'd ever want to watch already exist anyways :D

Well, I bought a volume of Land of the Lustrous recently. So that certainly makes me an active supporter of the industry. (Even though that's the only manga I've ever bought xd and it freaking cost me a lot).

I do have Crunchyroll premium but not sure how much of an impact it makes

I've bought a few manga, novels and music CDs via Amazon Japan and watch on legal platforms such as Hulu, Youtube (official channels) and TVer, when a series is available on those platforms. Not that watching ads make much of a difference, but.
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

How do you support the industry?

i dunno... by Buying the Physical Anime and Anime Merch that so happens to personally appeal to me,
whenever such things so happen to pop up, and whenever i so happen to be in a position to afford any of it...

I got a Hulu subscription just for Tokyo Revengers and I was really disappointed.

For some reason it's unusable on my pc, the screen keeps flashing every time the subs appear.
So I have to use the PS5 app to watch anything in there.

Not to mention the subs read more like closed captions than anything.

Hulu works fine for me. I have no issues with subs flickering using the Hulu app for windows 10 and by watching directly on Google Chrome.
These days I use the Hulu app on the TV and have no issues there either. Maybe try using a different browser?
Hulu has a surprisingly strong catalog of older titles, and even has more recent titles such as Spy Family and Bofuri 2.
The subs does look like close captions, but I think it's fine. Although I tend to watch without subs when possible anyway.

Legal streaming sites are only right choice, because in my region there is no official merchandise or official BD sales. Likewise official sales of manga/light novels, which do not have many titles.

No, the money doesn't go to Japanese creators and legal streaming sites do shady movements with your money or they're using it for things no one asked like High Guardian Spice.

+1. Hidive is probably the only ok one and the selection is pretty meh. In a way, piracy is supporting the anime industry because it tells CR, funimation, Netflix Disney etc to piss off

Quite a few of those options apply to me

I have a Netflix subscription, I collect figurines, I have Blu-rays and DVDs, I own manga and artbooks...

If I like a series, I find it only makes sense for me to support it in any way that I can

Mainly figures, occassionally gacha, sometimes light novels and blu rays.

Manga takes up too much space and it is kind of pointless now with manga apps. Plus the paper on manga can rot without proper storage. Light novels provide more but take too long to read. I also found reading it takes away from the anime experience. I also don't want a fat backlogs of novels that I have to get through

i buy manga if its available and it doesnt have too many volumes... and isnt too expensive, but i dont work, i currently only focus on my university, so u know its tough
so far i got entirety of black butler, all xxxholic omnibuses but one (4th one just gone), all of nagata kabi, kuro, Fukakai na Boku no Subete wo, and one higu vol

i really really really wish i could afford figurines
once i have time to work again, first i kinda wanna focus on more piercings and tattoos, and then some... two? ...one figurine; mb higu rena, or another misaki, or astolfo, or oregairu, akari yuru yuri

i enjoy osts too, and theyre not that expensive maybe i should get into that

If anything Hidive is the worst anime service out there, anyone who has used it knows how bad it is.
Hate Crunchyroll and Netflix how much you want, but at least their services work.

And how is piracy supporting the industry?
Doesn't Crunchyroll, Funimation, Netflix literally produce anime?
Or you ignore those?

Also let's ignore the many people working in the indsutry including animators, telling people not to pirate...

I've never even watched these yet, but a Zero Two and Haruna Sairenji figure, both cheap. Physical Manga, DVDs and Blu-rays, and a couple of other things that I'm not sure if the industry actually sees any support from. Oh, and the Citrus artbook that came out late last year, got it right from Japan.

I only referred to hidive as the best insofar as business practices are concerned. Anime selection, the app, etc all have a long way to go compared to the others

Regarding your other points, yes those companies do produce anime. I, and the person I was replying to, were questioning whether or not that’s a good thing. If it isn’t, then pirating limits their influence in anime since their value to the production committee (or in the case of “original productions,” their incentive to make them) is proportional to the amount of streaming revenue provided. Sure, it doesn’t financially support the industry - but I could also say “we should promote cancer research by passing out cigarettes so more people can be enrolled in clinical trials when they get cancer”

Buying English-translated DVDs, Blu-Rays, manga, and light novels from local distributors based in the same country I reside in, the United States of America, and subscribing to some (though by no means all) legal streaming services. And since all of those companies duly negotiate and pay agreed-upon amounts the Japanese content owners for licensing/distribution rights, every last one of those legal avenues of consumption is a perfectly valid means of supporting the anime industry.

For those who say otherwise, but only about specific, US-based legal streaming sites they happen to hold culture-war grievances against: how do those legal streaming sites get away with streaming anime, if they don't support the industry? Are they just that smart, or are Japanese content owners just that dumb?

I don't understand what you are trying to say here.

You say piracy is a good thing because it "tells" those overseas companies to stay away from anime.
But I thought what pirates wanted was for those companies to actually support the industry, yet when they do, all of a sudden it's a bad thing.

I don't think Crunchyroll or Netflix investing in the production of anime, and helping make new anime is a bad thing.

For instance, the anime Romantic Killers was really well praised, and that anime was entirely funded by netflix
