I'm pretty sure no one on my anime list collects manga or anime.
I mean why would they ever do that.
My taste is trash. So is yours.

I only own the first Kuroshitsuji artbook ;-; but I would like to have more. The pictures featured in these are nice to look at.

I have reserved the FFVII Remake artbook (through not anime, it's still an artbook lol) so...

Oh I personally love the “Art of” books, particularly character concept design and world building ones. 😁 I have an art of Evangelion book that was gifted from a friend of mine, and an Art of Fire Emblem Awakening/Knights of Iris book. Most of the art books that I want to buy are quite pricey though, (over $60) so I’m quite hesitant to buy too many as of now, but I do want to start an actual collection sometime in the future.

Yeah I've been really appreciating art books for about 3 years now, and they definitely can get really pricey. Be careful for your wallet's sake!

I own one artbook, for Loveless. I don't actually care for the series itself, but at the time I got it it was the only manga artbook available in my country, so I had to buy it XD I like it tho. Wouldn't mind getting some more for series I do care about ^^

Cheating a little, but i started collecting doujinshi earlier this year, and well, they devoured my entire wallet XD It's a small collection so far, entirely focused on JoJo, but man I love it so much <3 I now want to learn Japanese just to be able to read it properly... But until then, I'll keep looking at the art. It's so pretty~! <3

Items currently in my possession
Sailor Moon Original Art Collection 1-5
Sailor Moon Original Art Collection infinity
Sailor Moon Setting Collection
Magic Night Rayearth Original Art Collection 1
Magic Night Rayearth Original Art Book 2
Cat's Return: Setting Documents Collection
fate/zero Original Art Book 1

Items I owned in the past
Original art collection of Tsukasa Hojo
Evangelion EVE
Evangelion Setting Documents Collection

Things I would like to have if I had the chance
Girl Revolution Utena Original Art Collection
Hikaru no Go Original Artbooks

The one I wanted the most was the Sailor Moon original art book, so now that I have that, there are no more art books that I really want. I don't buy many manga books because they are not the same size as manga books, so there is not much room for them in my bookshelf.

And when I do get them, I don't open the pages very often because I'm worried about them getting scratched, or because I don't want to waste time looking at them.

I think you and I just have similar hobbies. I saw your comments on other forums about what you want, and I know, I know.

By the way, I bought a set of Sailor Moon art books, set material books, and Infiniti at a second-hand store, but it was very expensive. For a moment I thought I might never get it again, so I thought I should buy it.

I've been buying Nakayoshi's magazine for several years, and when Sailor Moon and Rayearth were serialized, I was really looking forward to the color cover, so I especially love it.

Whoaaaa... that must have been so cool getting a whole bunch of those huge magazine issues with colored pages and sometimes free goodies!!
Did you get the new Nakayoshi issues with Cardcaptor Sakura anniversary stuff inside? I was tempted to get it, but I can't really read much Japanese.

No, there aren't that many color pages, okay? I guess by free goodies you mean the appendix, which comes with every issue. You know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm surprised.

Cardcaptor Sakura was published, what, a year ago? I only bought it once when it came back. I was a little embarrassed to buy it as an adult. So I didn't buy the recent Nakayoshis with the anniversary goods.

This topic is not about the magazine, so if you're interested, I can post a picture of the magazine in the comments. As for the appendixes, I still have the Sailor Moon and Rayearth ones, so would you like to see those too?

Also, Nakayoshi, for several years I bought and read the magazine, but never actually read any of the stories except the ones I liked. So, even though I'm Japanese, I don't really read every single magazine.

I collect physical manga for series I really enjoy, since manga is kind of expensive outside of Japan I do want to make sure I really like a series before I start collecting however many volumes. Currently I have three bookshelves nearly filled with manga and have been collecting for the past two years. I've put my manga in my biggest bedroom and have more space still to expand my collection, but it's an expensive hobby so I like taking my time. I read manga series that have finished and skip the ones that are still publishing while collecting them.

I'm also interested in art books, but I don't own any yet. I want to get the art book by Itou Junji and there's also an art book on Vagabond. A Berserk artbook would also be really awesome to have.

Oh, my bad for not clarifying, when I said "color pages" I wasn't talking about full-colored character splash pages at the beginning of each chapter.
What I actually meant was how several manga pages were printed on pages of different colors on the physical magazine issue. Like how one manga chapter might be printed on purple pages and some other on blue and some other on green, etc. That seems to be how manga magazines in Japan have their chapters printed, at least the shoujo ones like in Nakayoshi, right? I thought that was really cool because not only were manga magazines not really much of a thing over here (maybe really early on in the 2000s when Viz media published magazines like "Shoujo Beat" and the English version of Weekly Shounen Jump), but iirc they didn't really do monochrome color pages like that to my knowledge.

Sorry I didn't state that part properly, I assumed that you'd automatically know what I'm talking about.
I know about these because I've seen and briefly skimmed through a couple of used magazine issues in Book-Off a few times.

And yeah, feel free to send some magazine pictures in my profile comments or a private message! :)

Most of my art books are slightly ecchi

oh yeah none of these are related to anime, these artists have worked on some LN's and have some artwork related to cet series but most of it is original works. Some books also show the artists process in drawing certain images step by step which is kinda cool.

Other art books that I'm on the lookout for are Der Mond: The Art of Evangelion, The FLCL Archives, The Art of Spirited Away, Steins;Gate Artwork: Imaginations of Huke, Ghost in The Shell Original Collection, etc.

Not particularly. I own a few Artbooks of Ghibli Movies and one Junji Ito artbook but that's it. I'm mostly collecting manga and comics, art books are not really one of my primary interests. I could be convinced to invest in an artbook from this guy tho:
https://myanimelist.net/people/2967/Yoshitaka_Amano

In general there's a few artists I'd be interested in, but I'm not actively looking for artbooks. If I see them in a store while browsing I might get them, but that's about it.
I probably regret this post by now.

Yeah, exactly. I love the way Yoshiyuki Sadamoto draws his characters, especially their geometry and posture, and how he shades and colours his drawings. As for Huke, his use of textures and shadow is unlike any artist I've come across, some of his Steins;Gate art is unforgettable.

I have a book with Huke's Black Rock Shooter illustrations.
I see, that's nice.

Yes! It's actually the first series that's featured when you flip past the "1954-1960" splash page. :)

Apparently there's videos that show you what it looks like, here's the Princess Knight portion: https://youtu.be/mQTFlSwlJlc?t=30

It doesn't look like there's anything from Sabagebu. I began watching this funny CGDCT today.

Yeah, I didn't see Sabage-bu in the art book. Didn't even know it was in Nakayoshi tbh.

I borrowed an art book from the library. It's not about anime or manga, but I'm going to talk about it anyway. It's called The Art of Ramona Quimby. I don't like it.

One thing I dislike is that it's missing a ton of nostalgic covers, because the book instead focuses on interior illustrations. Yet they still take the time to praise Joanne Scribner, responsible for a series of hideous covers I've never seen before in my life. I must have been lucky to miss her generation, whenever that was.

The other problem is that the pictures are neither arranged by artist nor by date. They are arranged by book. Each chapter therefore has several differing pictures of the same scene mixed together.

Jacqueline Rogers is the best artist.

Most of those are basically exclusive to some kind of Special Edition of the anime released by Aniplex USA, NIS America, Funimation, or a collaboration between Bandai and Rightstuf.com (Nozomi Entertainment) as well, which definitely were expensive, yes. Especially the AniplexUSA releases. Such kinds of Editions are often limited as well and they only make so many. Most of them are probably hard to find at this point.

I especially like the way Demizu makes every character look distinct, even in monochrome. It can be hard to tell apart characters in other manga when the only hair colors are black and white, and the only skin color is white.
