People don't like hearing negative comments about the stuff they like... it makes some people feel insecure.

@Maneki-Mew

So what if someone thinks something is shit because they didn't like it? They're not being, "unfair".

If people cared about the opinion of publishers, that would make sense. Because publishers, literally decide, whether a work is good enough to be out there.

But caring about something as stupid as someone's opinion when it has literally no impact on anything, is being childish, immature, stupid, and ridiculous.
They don't have an obligation to be, quote on quote, "fair". What are you going to do? Complain? Troll them? Threaten them (that might actually work)?

Hell, Digibro (whom I'm subscribed to) does it for literally every anime: he literally can't differentiate between what he likes, and what he actually considers to be good.
I never complained to him about it. Because why should I care?

They liked that anime and feel attached to it. Maybe they see themselves in it as well.
So if you're even putting out criticism on that anime
(Especially when that criticism is valid) they will defend it from every negative comment at all cost because it would feel like they themselves are being attacked.

You didn't like it?
Okay, here's why you're wrong and should like it like me.

You say you'll never understand the mentality of those who respond towards negativity yet you think people should be allowed to express their opinion whether it be positive or negative? How's your criticism of a show any different than someone questioning/responding towards your criticism of that same show? What do you think a discussion topic is?

As much as I hate using lines like these, if you don't want people don't criticize your comment, then just don't post.

There are times that I agree to people, but most of them are stupid preferential demanding rants who makes baseless opinion.

Like those wannabe critics in Violet Garden, most of them hates it because it was hype with a rising high score and because it was Kyoto Animation who made it. I'm OK with those people who felt it was uninteresting(I'm one of them), but some petty people will just brand it bad because it was popular.

Responding to criticism, explained or not, is a normal thing to do :^/

Because some people just cannot deal with any criticism to their favourite anime/manga/character and will write several paragraphs to defend their favourites. Not so say that you should defend a show if the criticism is just plain wrong, but some people take t too seriously here.

Probably because they think that the comment criticizing their favorite anime is wrong and they want to correct them or something.

OP is cool for loving Cross Ange. I don't have anything to add to the discussion, sorry.

To leave a negative comment about my favorites is to insult myself and everything I believe in, it's worse than you killing my whole family.

Yeah, I think some people really just see themselves in it and feel the need to deflect every slightly negative comment because they feel personally insulted when their self-insert character is insulted.

1) I think everyone should try to explain where he's coming from. If he can't even do that, then he probably doesn't even have an opinion, in that case, what gives him the right to call someone out if he can't even prove that the other is wrong from his pov?

2)That's not true and you should work on yourself,seriously..

3) It really isn't,but that doesn't mean it's ok.

1) Many people, including myself, just enjoy parts of entertainment, for reasons we can't put into words, or the words we can put them into, are too simple.
Will you try to argue with someone even after they say, "I liked this anime because there were cool fight scenes"?
Emotions aren't an easy thing to describe, sometimes.
You can still tell someone else, "I disagree with you" and end it just like that.

2) I have over 2,000 posts. I have literally never seen people on MAL argue, and it ending with one side actually admitting the other is right.

3) The only people it's not okay for are people who want to look for every opportunity to argue.

1) I can relate to that, cause I'm not really good at that too,but most of the time it's just a matter of how much thought you put into it.Ask yourself why you find that scene cool and maybe watch it again. I really don't how it's helpful to quote someone you disagree with when you can't even name a reason. Just don't do it then, nobody is forcing you.

2) But I have, it's actually pretty common that one can admit that he was in the wrong.

3)Most of time it's really just that, some people just randomly call others out because of nothing and that's the impression I also get from people who can't state their reasons.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

People being 'critical' after one episode and completely writing off aspects of the anime...

Just reading trough the thread in question, I can say that you are greatly exaggerating. People are just responding to half-baked statements that lack solid arguments to support them.
Suddenly, someone slaps you with a brick wall.

I will never understand this kind of mentality.

Neither will I. It doesn't make 'em heroes or always stepping in argument whenever they run into negative comments. It's a childish behavior. They do have the right to the defend, but boy, the world ain't gonna fall apart if you don't do it for every single negativity. Be smarter and restrain yourself. Let others be for once. It's not like you'll automatically loose your liking for the anime if other people don't like it.
