| If the show is entertaining me then yeah I wont be distracted. If Im watching it again just to have sound in the background(regardless if I enjoy it) or Im not interested Ill play videogames or reading while its playing. |

| Multitasking while watching subtitled anime isn't all that difficult if you understand some basic Japanese. I have a two-monitor setup on my computer, so it's pretty easy to just glance back & forth and still follow what's going on. For the short lines, I can occasionally miss them, but it's usually something simple like "yamano!" or "dakara...", sometimes a "chotto matte!" or a "yatta!", among others. These are all things that I understand without having to read the subtitles, so it doesn't matter if I missed the actual subtitle, since these are all simple one or two word exclamations / phrases. The longer lines where I don't fully understand what they're saying stay on screen for longer, so I tend to not miss them if I'm typing something on the other screen since I have time to glance back and read it. Of course, I'm also paying attention to the animation during all of this, but since a lot of anime use limited animation, it's pretty easy to see the few frames they're using, read the subtitles, and then glance at your IM client or IRC for a few seconds and type some more. This doesn't end up being difficult for me, but I do find that I chat more slowly while watching anime. I also tend to not do this with every anime that I watch. I'll usually start off a series without doing stuff like this, but if the series eventually becomes simple and easy to follow, then I'll begin to do this kind of thing. As for anime films and OVA, they usually have impressive enough animation to keep me captivated throughout their entire duration, so I tend to give them my full attention as well. |

| Nah, not if it's a series I haven't seen before. If it's uninteresting enough for me to be distracted I just drop the series. But there are a few anime favorites I put on in the background just for some noise when I study or if I want to practice my Japanese listening skills |
