Holy crap! I didn't expect this flashback to be as amazing as it is! The drama is really touching, even though we really don't know a lot about Nekota or Yuki as characters. I find the placement of this in the series a bit weird, but then again, this is such a great little arc so far, that I am glad Hajime no Ippo will end on a high note like that.

That's really sucks
Those people didn't deserve it, to be nuked because their government start a war
Until this day people from Nagasaki and Hiroshima still get radiated
Can't imagine the effects when the bomb just dropped.. probably living hell

Nekota's brain turn on and turn off at irregular intervals
Seems a really severe disease
And ofc at critical moment it'll kick in

"She died many years ago" "Are you from Hiroshima" Oh shit I have a bad feeling about Yuki
Never thought Nekota went through all that.

Ahhh classic love triangle. :D
"The future is always blank. Only your willpower can leave footsteps there."

"Ruling over death means ruling over life. Death is the climax of life. To have the best death, you must honor life."

A trio of childhood friends consisting of two of the same gender and one from the other will always lead to some sort of love triangle, oof

Ah, so that's how it is... Yuki's a victim of the bombing of Hiroshima and she's got fatal radiation sickness while Nekota's suffering severe brain damage from all the untreated head injuries he had sustained.

It's a shame that a boxer as good as Nekota wouldn't be able to fight anymore but I guess that a silver lining to this situation would be him surviving until the current day with his friend.

Nekota is in no shape to be fighting. No wonder he retired after this fight...

I think this is the worst stuff Hajime no Ippo has to offer: ridiculous pro-Japan jingoism and pathetic caricatures of everyone else. Japan has the awkward truth of old characters being adults during WW2 but having Nekotani saying shit like "I'd have filled that guy full of holes during the war" and talking about his piloting skills and shit is unhinged. There were normal people during that era but everything Japan did militarily was bad and them losing the war was good.

And as as for the stereotypes, Volg is basically a Russian stereotype but he's a great character that the series could use more of. Sendo is a massive Osaka stereotype and he's great. Guys like this stupid soldier and Bryan Hawk are just idiotic shit. The way they're always like "yes, Japanese women, the finest of all women on Earth. Truly treasures to behold." is laughable. They can't just be racist or evil or whatever but they also have to backhandedly compliment how hot Japanese chicks are all the time, lol.
