True...sad but great. 9/10 for this as a whole. I was almost tempted to give it a ten due to its ending.

UnU i wanted him to live sooo much but we all know that he is dead even if it is not confirmed. There is still hope that he is alive but i prefer that ending.

I still, want him alive 😭😭😭
Maybe the creator wanted us to carry the story out and decide if he is alive or not.

I'd definitely rate a 9/10 if it wasn't for the excess of "filler" episodes. But it is truly one of the best directed anime (and any audiovisual production) I've ever seen. It does deserve the praise it gets

Okay, I will have to take a point away for the ending, it was terrible. I understand people who simply like a tragic ending, but I have to disagree that it's a good end here. What you basically have here is Spike leaving behind Jet and Faye... Faye, to chase pointless revenge if not worse than that - just a pointless confrontation. The only moral in this story is don't ever join the mafia. I guess that in the end Spike was extremely selfish - you could argue that most people are, but that's no reason to defend just how self-centered his final action was.

I like the idea that his past would come back to haunt him just like the thing in the fridge, but do I need to remind you the resolution of that session? Even if your past does come to haunt you, friends can help you to overcome it. What a nihilistic ending did we get instead though.

7/10, everything before the final two episodes is 8/10.

Wow! truly a masterpiece and I don't use that word lightly. I can't get over admiration after watching the last episode. It ended up so perfectly showing the importance of coming to terms with the past. It was incredibly moving how Spike finally found closure and peace after existing in indifference for so many years.

i’ve read some comments here and tbh kind of have to disagree... the episode did fit perfectly with the story and it was a great ending but at the same time i felt like it lacked something. from the beginning the viewer knows or can predict what’s going to happen and when it does it’s really fast-paced, making it lose some of its impact and emotion. i just believe this should’ve been a longer episode, the show somehow doesn’t seem complete despite spike being dead.

personally i think the ending would have been better if he lived. and lived happly ever after with faye.

That wouldn’t have been a good ending. Spike and Faye weren’t romantic whatsoever and Spike was always trapped by his past. He was finally set free with his death.

Amazing anime. I loved all the 25 episodes before the finale.

I don't mind disagreeing with the rest of the reviewers, even if my opinion is unpopular or makes them angry, but I have to say that the ending is horrible and miserable, and It deeply stains the series for me.

This ending is so great. You can hate or love it based on your thinking alone.
9/10 for me. Woulda been a 10 if it wasn't episodic cause I personally find it difficult to get invested.
The eps just kept getting better though.

hmm, thought the end gonna surprise me, in the end there's a lot of good action and a kind of sad end, but the story that connected by pictures and words didn't fitted to me, not to say that the character development ruined for me.
I really tried to stay neutral for the end because of good things people said about the end, but in the end i'm deeply disappointed from the way it ended, especially since spike is dead for some character we met for little time.
won't say though it was a bad end, it was great actually, it's just i excepted so much more.
8/10

as for the series, i had a lot ups and downs, faye's episodes were masterpiece, spike's episode were above great and jet's episodes were average.

Welp, awesome ending for an awesome show. I have to say I had slightly higher expectations but it was still amazing. I don't have much criticisms, a few ones but this show has too many redeeming qualities for me to care. I just wonder what will happen to Jet and Faye now... Will they team up together ? Will they stop this job and try something else ? Or will they just part ways... I want to believe the first option is the right one.
Cowboy Bebop now has made its way to my favorites and receives a well-deserved 10/10 !

I can say that my feelings align with many on that this series very well could have been 12 episodes considering the amount of filler.

The aesthetics, music, and cinematography were all near masterful level, but the story was very much hit-and-miss which brought the series down.

I would be lying to myself if I said I didn't enjoy the show, it had many great moments and episodes, but to say it's a 10 is quite a stretch and feel this show suffers from a cult fandom much like Madoka Magica does.

Series had an amazing soundtrack, aesthetic, characters, and so much more. Very strong conclusion to the story, but I wish it was less episodic. 9/10.

Feel the need to edit this, as time passed I found an increasing admiration for the series. Especially the Jupiter Jazz and Real Folk Blues episodes which are probably some of my favorite episodes from anything I've watched. The final scenes were masterpieces in how it plays out and it leaves the audience with such a strong emotion complimented by another memorable and beautiful closing song. Absolutely unforgettable and became my personal favorite anime.

so, both Spike and Vicious were really dead... the one was dangerously tied up to his past related with Red Dragon syndicate, the same past which he had always running from, exempt from the present and life cycles and living carelessly (and weightlessly) in space; and the other... an empty shell who didn't want to believe in anything, neither in life itself, only listening to his most inner urgencies, totally anxious for power (nothing humane came from Vicious, anyway). Both feared Death, the passage, the inconstancy, each in their way. Spike’s right eye does not only see the present, but, therefore, the death too...

Julia: This... is a dream...
Spike: Yeah... Just a bad dream.

[...]

Don’t fear death. Death is always by your side. When you show fear, it catches you faster than the light. If you don’t show fear, it’ll kindly look above you...

[...]

Our souls, that God gives us... Our spirits... Aren’t our bodies so tiny and weak for our spirits that found a form to vague through the vast net and live in the infinity of space?

[...]

Everyone has lost track of where they want to be, just like collarless cats.

Wow, what a fitting ending for such a classic. I would have been a little disappointed if Spike somehow survived considering he was practically swimming in death flags. Even if his departure was melancholic, I accept it as it is.

I can see now why so many people recommended it to me in the first place. The soundtrack, the characters, their backstories, even the preview and episode titles were great and deep leaving laughs and cries mainly towards the end. However the highlight for me has to be the way their world was portrayed.

This mixture of western and sci-fi is filled to the brim with big and little details that answer about their reality, such as what happened to Earth in this alternate future? How do people travel from one place to the other? What's the media like? What kind of food do they eat? Just how far has technology come? Among others.

Nevertheless, there were some episodes which I wasn't a big fan of mainly due to their introduction to some mystic elements which didn't contribute much to the overall state of affairs. It's not like they can't be in a setting like this but they didn't quite mesh with the rest.

All in all, this was great.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I understand why people are so enthralled with the show, but people who rate it 10/10 out of this world mindbending material must lmk what they smoked while watching it, cuz I though the show was good, but not a masterpiece. There are many great elements that made up the show (music, art direction, animation and technicalities) but it also fell short in some departments. This is by no means hate for the show because I think it was still really well produced.

Thinking about ratings and what constitutes a “10/10” anime, I’ve come to realize there is no such thing as a perfect anime. Our ratings are objective and we can be enthralled with shows for whatever reason, despite it having its shortcomings. So I guess all in all, I don’t believe in perfect shows or that shows can be perfect, but pretty damn near considering all the aspects that make the show what it is. Cowboy bebop is by no means a trash or garbage anime, it IS really good and well executed for reasons already stated, but it does fall flat for me when it comes to storyline. I don’t think it’s the ambiguity of certain themes or like “which eye is real” because I don’t care and that topic seems overly discussed. For me, character development and having *complete* stories is what drives a show for me and what makes me all the more invested in it. I think the lack of depth for Julia, or vicious, or even Ed—they’re all kind of boiled down to one or two dimensional character tropes and I think that’s where the show fell flat for me.

Overall the show is a fun watch. It’s highly entertaining and it’s comical in the right places. There was suspense and action with a fun space setting. It’s definitely a different kind of show and stands out in many ways. While it has it shortcomings, it’s still a decent anime and should not be overlooked. 7/10 - 8/10

Great show. I wouldn’t put it up there as my favorite, or a masterpiece, or a 10/10 but a great show nonetheless.

Also, this whole Vicious and Syndicate felt… weak tbh. Felt like we (or maybe just me) never knew enough to get invested. I mean Shin just came out previous episode and he’s dead. I agree the show as a whole warrants a 8-9/10 but seeing a lot of “the ending is great” probably over inflated my expectations. It was nicely wrapped but nothing mindblowing.

I really enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, but I must admit, I struggle to understand how it gained it's status as one of the greats. Don't get me wrong, it's a good show and I can understand why anybody would enjoy it, but I just don't really think it ever got close to masterpiece status.

The characters were great, epsecially Spike and Ed, and I was fine with the episodic formula over plot, but I don't think it really did anything amazing.

It's a really fun series though and I would definitely recommend it to anybody that is just getting into anime. It's probably something I would recommend as a good introduction to anime, but I wouldn't think anybody that has watched a ton before this one would be too blown away by it.

I struggled to rate this one. If I could give it a 7.5 I would, but because MAL doesn't do that, I was kind and went with an 8 overall.
