As for the Avant Garde tag, there are several factors: First, it is a deconstruction of GL genre and its tropes, second, it is a satire on the situation of lesbians in real life versus its portray in fiction (paraphrasing Ikuhara himself) by showing bears as a symbolism (lesbians) as cutesy and lovely in fiction but being hated and killed in real life and third, its overall narrative which has left mixed reactions from viewers due to its uniqueness.
