| Thats one of my biggest shoujo peeves. The guys are usually mean and exactly like that guy. Makes you wonder why they bother and just find a nice guy who appeciates them. I wouldnt have given him the time of day, regardless how handsome he was. |

| Well, I just completed Itazura No Kiss and it was awesome. It just got better all the time. Even the cold fish turned out Ok. I am actually amazed at how great this show was, its definitely recommendable. Let me see... I have already seen K-on, Ichigo Mashimoro, Sora No Manimani, and I really enjoyed Kobato... so thanks for the recommendations everybody, I probably will be visiting a few of those as time passes. |

| Just finished a wonderful 7-ep OVA series called Freedom. It's about a rebellious boy living in a moon colony where the people have been living for some centuries believing the earth had become uninhabitable... of course he finds out they have been lied to and starts a journey to uncover the truth... even though there are some cheesy moments and the character design is the same as the movie Akira, I had a really great time watching this, surprised I haven't heard about it until now... (I came across it when looking at roles of one of my fave seiyuus ^^) |

| Well, I finally have to take off one of my shoes to count the 9's on my list. Just finished Summer Wars and thoroughly enjoyed it. This was a fun one to watch, even considering the plot has been used before (but then "War Games" was one of the few Broderick flicks I enjoyed), although I did have a small problem with the finale of the movie. Hanafuda looked like it could be a fun game to play, and I'll have to do some further research into that to see if it is on the par with Cribbage. This has also made my PTB (Plan to Buy) List as well. The subbing group (719x) are still new at the whole subbing business and didn't do a very good job over all. The subtitles were huge in size (in order to cover up the Korean(?) subtitles that were there originally, I suppose) and very distracting to say the least. But at the time I d/l'ed this one, they were the only game in town and it was one of those "take what you can get" type of deals. If nothing else, I want to see this with smaller subs and sans-Korean subs. If you are one of the rare individuals who have not seen this one, and you are tired of the flashy anime of Code Guess or the other flavors of the month, this is one you should definitely put on your PTW List. |

| It wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. Finished watching the first season of Mahoromatic. Years ago when I saw the trailer for this show on DVDs I was left wondering "What the heck is that all about?". At this point in time I'm not too sure if I have an answer for that question. If anything I can safely say "It's a Gainax production and it shows". It certainly combined a lot of elements: slapstick comedy, reflective monologues, a sprinkling of action and a fair bit of *ahem* service. It was a decent time filler. |
| You can find the Blu-Ray version on summer wars on BakaBT. I had that version your talking about too but about 40 minutes in the sound and subs got way out of sync and it was unwatchable. The subs on the other version are much more appealing to read and better quality. Overall I agree with you about the movie. It was good fun but pretty far fetched like you said. Only thing I dont care for is the silly virtual world and crappy looking CGI effects. Yes I am of the opinion that just about all CG effects in anime look like garbage. |

| Finished Armor Hunter Mellowlink yesterday. A fun side story from the Armored Trooper VOTOMS Universe. Just a simple and pure revenge story about a guy who's unit was wiped out in a suicide mission and hunts down all those responsible for ordering and covering it up. And here's the twist, he does it not with Mecha, but instead takes on his opponents on foot using an anti-AT rifle. The end is maybe not as neatly wrapped up as it could have been, and the physics of some of his attacks are questionable - especially his power bayonet - but overall it was a nice 12-episode ride and it was really fun watching Mellow's against-the-odds man vs. Mecha battles. Oh, and BTW, the show also features the hottest woman in any of the VOTOMS series (sorry Fyana). Being a VOTOMS fanboy, I gave it a 8/10. |

| I finished Dance in the Vampire Bund. I liked it. While it didnt have amazingly good characters and plot there was something about it that kept me glued to my seat and eager to watch the next episode. I dont know how the manga compares and its been pretty much critically skewered by reviewers on MAL, I think its gotten a bit of a bad rap. The major issue with alot being the loli. Seriously I wonder why people get so bent out of shape about loli;s. Arent they in every anime now? Can you even be a fan of anime and get offended by loli's anymore? So I dont know she may look like a loli but shes 1000 years old or whatever. Can you still be a loli then? I dont really think so. |

With them using an old REBECCA tune for the OP, Mina sounding like Nagi, and the addition of the silly little vignettes after the end credits I could never get myself to take the thing seriously. Thus being under the impression it was tongue in cheek I didn't see why folks were up in arms over its purported loli content. There were points where it reminded me of Le Portrai De Petit Cossette as far as the artwork and editing went. Like you said Skadi, it wasn't endowed with amazingly good characters or plot but there was just enough going for it to keep it from landing on my "Dropped" list. What can I say? "It looked good enough to watch"(?!). |

But then I never drop anything either :P I finished Nanatsuiro Drops... actually pretty impressed with its romance story though it had a few too many annoying plot cliches and some really annoying voice performances to let me give it a really good score. |

| I have just completed Saki and it was excellent. Granted I know zip about mahjong, but it really had me on the edge of my seat rooting for the good guys.. er girls. Yes, there is a bit of service in it, but it had some very likeable characters, and Saki and Nodoka make a very attractive pairing. Its probable there is a series 2 because the story isnt finished and I will definitely be looking forward to it. |

| Just finished Juuni Kokuki Found it a bit too slow to get into & too many recap episodes... seriously, why would anyone need THAT MANY recap episodes .. no there weren’t as many as Kare Kano had, but there was a recap for a 4-episode arc .. Really? We need a whole episode to recap the last 4 episodes??? Other than the recrap overabundance... the series was great .. really actually bordered on phenomenal!!!! I gave it like a 9 |

| Just finished Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom. I'm not sure what to say about this one. I liked the lead characters and the original plot was a good one, but the story itself was very disjointed. Well maybe not disjointed, but more haphazard. There were several threads loosely tied together that never really came together and in the end you forget much of the original episodes because, frankly, the story as a whole takes a left and leaves so much of that behind as to be a non-issue(story) The animation was good, the character design average, the music/sound, superb. There is one background song they play when the fighting gets going that gets you charged. The story was fragmented with a twist ending. The manga is still in print so I am unsure how the two tie together story wise. Overall a strong 7, borderline 8. |

The artwork was bright, relatively simple and consistent (in that there wasn't anything that stuck in my mind as looking out of alignment). There wasn't an prominent plot linking the whole thing together. Rather it was a set of short stories (some only an episode long) linked together for the purpose of introducing an ever increasing number of female characters to add to the harem. Oh yeah, I failed to mention that part. That and the usual obligatory fan service. It took a few minutes to get used to the voice characterization of the male lead but I enjoyed it because I thought it was a relatively different delivery. The dialogue for the main character Himari was different as they had her speaking in a formal and rather dated style. The OP tune was catchy but the ED one had me shaking my head wondering who could of thought up something like that. All in all the whole thing was one of those "meh" series which I didn't so much watch as much as I just let it play out its course. |

| Just finished Candidate for Goddess. Average mecha stuff with an annoying brat as the main character, but even like this I would have given a good grade if it wasn't for the last episode. During the course of the series a lot of questions pop up, only to discover at the end that there is no end whatsoever! It was probably produced with the the hope of a second season that never happened, hence I cannot recommend this show to anyone who likes shows with closure. I happen to be one of them, so this gets 6/10. |

| Yesterday I found and started Idol Project and I just finished it (it was only a 4 part OVA). I just don't know what to make of it. The least I could say is that it's a fanservice driven anime. It has everything...ninjas, mecha, panty shots, nudity w/o the naughty bits, music, idols, interdimensional saving, some very minor yuriness.... <ouch...fingers are sore now>. It's an okay series if you aren't expecting much.... |

| Finally finished Gunslinger Girl ~ Il Teatrino. I'm saying "finally" because I think I watched episode 1 before the R2 DVDs were first released and let the remaining 12 episodes sit until about a month or so ago. I did enjoy this series in spite of the griping I've read about the series here and on other forums. I liked how the series lived in the "grey zone" as far as letting the audience judge the characters. It was a facet which I don't remember seeing in the first series and empathy shown for the rebel characters was intriguing and engaging. Another element I enjoyed was the soundtrack. The accompanying music wasn't memorable but it had a good match with the visuals. I thought it complemented the action and dialogue very well. My only knock against the show is that I thought that the portrayal of Henrietta wasn't as effective as in the first series. I found she came across as a bit more annoying than in her previous incarnation. Aside from that, I have no major complaints. This is a series which I came to enjoy after having overcome the initial chorus of disapproval I saw. |

What a GREAT series. Emotion, action, and a great story. It ends on a cliff hanger, but it ends with the tag "To be continued in season 2, coming Fall 2010" ... so I'm happy. As for me, i finished Texhnolyze which was...well, interesting. There were some things i really liked about it and some i really disliked but it was certainly fascinating ride, so i gave it a solid 8/10 in the end. The funny thing was how the obligatory loli character reminded me so much of Kagura from Gintama that i expected Gintoki and Shinpachi to appear any minute every time she was on screen...which would have been quite hilarious...XD |

| Just finished Armed Librarians. Now, overall I enjoyed the series, but trying to keep up with the twists and turns will give you whiplash. >.< And try as you might to figure out what's going on, it will never happen. They wait until the last few episodes to bring in the characters that will tie it all together. Good series, but many deaths that had me crying in my diet Pepsi. :( |
| Finished off two series in the last two days. Both featured healthy doses of CG animation; Eve no Jikan and Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo. The former was something I had left sitting around for a long time. The latter was a series I where I had "sampled" the first episode and had left in the parking lot (the old "That wasn't too bad. It's too much work tracking down the rest of it so I'll drop it" situation). Eve no Jikan was short and sweet. It's a short expansion on the theme of where would the line be drawn between machines that can think and people. The story contains a good amount of empathy as the two young protagonists learn about appropriateness in an unfamiliar setting, a cafe where robots and people are treated as equals. The tension in the story arising from its premise that such interactions aren't condoned. The artwork is well done with engaging sets, well detailed objects and a good eye for lighting. All in all this series was an engaging light character study which was enhanced furthermore by being animated. On the other hand Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo was a kinetic cannonball that came across as a ripping space road movie. That effect was probably enhanced by the fact I watched 15 episodes more or less back to back. I'd sum it up as wacky, absurd at times and generally clean fun with a healthy dose of action. There's a lot of "Don't mind the outfits and costumes will you" and "Say what happened with the plot?" but I figured this was a prime example of a "Park the brain and enjoy the ride" series. |

| Eve no Jikan is supposed to be getting a movie version that, from what I understand, will expand the story. You might also check out the semi-prequel Mizu no Kotoba. Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo was fun. |
| ^ I just found out about that today. The Blu-Ray and DVD disks of the movie are being released on July 29th(sic). Since you mentioned it, I just went back and dug up Mizu no Kotoba again. It looks like I had last watched it about a year ago. I had completely forgotten most of the details of the film, including the surprise revelation at the end. It was fun rediscovering how they played with visual and aural depth in it. |

I enjoyed it despite how many times it seemed to dangle an interesting revelation or the promise of some real plot movement in front of our faces, only to snatch it away for no real reason. But for whatever reason, I feel inclined to cut it some slack. I liked the characters and how the whole series looked. |

| Finished two series of "shorts": Hetalia Axis Powers and D4 Princess. Yes, the latter is being featured on the Shorts Club page but I got carried away and just had to finish watching it. Hetalia was something I had watched piecemeal last year and I finally got around to watching all the episodes sandwiched between the ones I had already watched. All in all it was good for laughs throughout (though I won't be showing the depiction of Ukraine to any ex-pat Ukrainians I know). I'm not going to give away the ending of D4 Princess but I did enjoy the series overall. I was a bit surprised at some of the names I found in the credits. Plus I found the catchy ED tune good for a laugh. |
